5/26/23, 1:19 PM - Clearly OFF bottle ! This is a masterpiece of Burgundy !
9/1/22, 1:29 PM - I think this vintage will suit you perfectly !
10/31/21, 7:46 AM - Harsh tannins like that,is very often a very bad sign for future development. There will of course be development, but in which direction ? In my opinion there is a problem of balance and my experience of Bordeaux tells me that this wine will always remain very tannic, even in 10 - 20 years. But I am not Nostradamus, and maybe I'm wrong.
10/12/21, 7:09 AM - Thanks a lot for your comment ! I'm drinking Bordeaux wines since almost 40 years and I must say that Calon-Ségur 2018 is one of the most exciting young Bordeaux that I have ever tasted.Next bottle in a few month...... Afterwards it's a matter of personal taste if you prefer the wines in their exuberant youth or with secondary or tertiary notes. My cellar is full of old Bordeaux, and you know what (apart from a few exceptions),they bore me to death ! Secondary and tertiary notes tire me more and more.Thats why I drink them quite young.
8/16/21, 6:27 AM - Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.
5/16/21, 4:22 PM - Thank you.This was a bottle for two.Double decanted 2 hours before service.
4/24/20, 5:17 AM - This was so fantastically complex … I was on my knees !
11/4/20, 5:05 AM - @2020 ** La Conseillante is also a great Pomerol, but more generic in style. In my opinion,Trotanoy has a more racy and powerful style… sometimes it can even be better than Petrus.Trotanoy is the most masculine wine in Pomerol, similar to no other.
11/5/20, 6:26 AM - @LiteItOnFire** I totally agree with you,Clinet is a few steps behind VCC and Trotanoy and the quality is not constant.Even on bottles of the same vintage.I rated 2015.. 85pts ! I suspect that the batches are not homogeneous enough...which would be unacceptable.
11/5/20, 7:21 AM - I tasted it several times (not commented) after this disappointing experience … a little bit better, but did not exceed 90pts.But I hope that your bottles are coming from the best batches.Yes VCC 2015 is such an amazing wine ...
11/5/20, 7:59 AM - @2020** I would buy both .. 15' and 16' … both are world class wines ! 15' is so delicious now … will develop further but may never shut down.16'is more classical … perhaps a little bit closed now.
11/6/20, 8:58 AM - @2020** VCC 15' is still wonderfully open,I don't think it will ever shut down completely. But the cellar also plays a very big role. It'sure that I'm not gonna wait 10 years before cracking the VCC 16'... and I think it will be very soon. There is always a risk that a wine is not in a good phase, but it is part of our passion.
11/7/20, 6:14 AM - @2020** Sassicaia and Ornellaia are completely different kettle of fish compared to VCC and TROT.Both are blends with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon and particulary Sassicaia (CabernetSauvignon - Cabernet Franc) .. Ornellaia (Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc) I tasted both a good number of times, they tend to be a little more austere, and in my opinion, they do not play in the same league than VCC and TROT.But this is only my personal feeling
9/27/20, 11:14 AM - Thanks ! Very nice bottle
9/28/20, 4:16 AM - Why not,for my own taste, the wine is now ready. But as you know, each bottle can be totally different and it's always a very personal decision.I'm over 60,so I hurry a little more .. lol
7/24/20, 4:46 AM - I perfectly know that preparing a blind tasting with 12 different wines is not an easy job. Sorry ... but with a 7 hour decant ?!?!?! … you killed the wine ! I popped and poured my last bottle, without any decant and the wine opened up gloriously over the next 3 hours … but we sure don't have the same tastes.
7/24/20, 5:38 AM - … "right after opening it felt too wild and disjointed both times" … that was not the case with my bottle … the nose was very pure and precise. But these are the mysteries from one bottle to another ...
6/26/20, 3:31 PM - Thanks again.Tasted the 2010 six month ago … it is lighter on its feet compared to the 2015
6/3/20, 10:01 AM - Maybe she's right,it could even be immortal … but we are only human beings … so let's enjoy this wonderful wine NOW ! Cheers !
4/24/20, 5:04 AM - Belair-Monange is a wine of exquisite beauty and pure class ! I opened these 3 wines not only in the name of science, but first of all for the pleasure .. and it was a very great pleasure. An that's why I say .. why wait ?Did not decant these 3 wines, only popped and poured. The first sips were already so fantastic… and they were so turbocharged …so that I think that they would never really shut down. But it depens also from the cellar. All my wines are stored in a great natural cellar. *Thanks for your nice comments !
4/24/20, 4:22 AM - VCC is absolutely one of my favourite Bordeaux. It has such an incredible weightless structure and it's finesse is out of this world.I would call it … the Musigny of Bordeaux.2016 is different …not obviously better, but perhaps more mineral-driven.But once again a worldclass wine ! I will also open a bottle of this in a few month.
8/13/19, 12:04 PM - I haven't yet tried 2018, but the 2016 is unmissable. Very lush and sensous,so silky,so pure,so fresh and precise … a wow wine !The 2018 should be more exotic and decadent … and it's already on my shopping list. If you can afford both … don't hesitate !
8/13/19, 2:57 PM - You can feel very subtle minerality on the nose an also on the palate,I would say a complex mix of graphite and scorched earth.
9/24/19, 8:12 AM - This was a bottle for two. Decanted 2 hours …. but continued to open up over the next 2 hours.
10/20/18, 1:07 PM - This is so extravagantly rich,I think you can drink it anytime over the coming two or three decades, but 3-5 years of cellaring should be enough. It is really important to decant this wine 4-5 hours or even more.
2/17/19, 12:44 PM - Complex, concentrated, luscious, sensous and intense, this wine has it all.It has enough fruit and texture to drink nicely even today (a 3 hour decant minimum ) or wait 3-5 years.Fantastic purchase.Enjoy !
12/16/18, 2:12 AM - Double decanting 1-2 hours before consumption should be a satisfying solution.
11/18/18, 9:14 AM - Great Chablis nose with wet limestone. To me,this was more Chablis than Mâcon.
10/19/18, 10:55 PM - You can buy this in Luxembourg City "Foire aux vins Cactus"
9/26/18, 3:42 PM - Sorry, this was a perfect but very disappointing bottle and absolutely not an off bottle. One thing is sure … we did not taste the same wine and this is unacceptable ! I have bought only one bottle from the best retailer of our country so to check the quality.I will give this wine another chance and will buy the next bottle at a french retailer so to compare.Maybe next month.
9/26/18, 4:12 PM - I hope so too,thank you !
8/12/18, 2:05 PM - Thanks a lot ! What I do remember is what great pleasure this wine brought and how I wanted more and more … one of those magic bottles that you remember for a long time.
1/4/18, 3:54 PM - Perfect stored bottle, this had 4 hours in decanter before serving. But overall it did not convince me.Very monolithic, with high-extraction,without any expression of terroir and lacking in any wow factor.I don't know if this will resolve with time, but I have my doubts. Will give them another chance in 5-6 years.Hopefully time will prove me wrong, but that is how it appears to me now.
3/26/18, 11:28 AM - I did not compare it with La Mouline 1990 or La Tâche 1996,it's absolutely impossible.I said completely outclassed by these 2 great wines. But I will give them another chance in 5-6 years and hopefully time will prove me wrong.
3/25/18, 12:05 PM - Personnaly I would probably prefer drinking it sooner than later. This bottle has given me complete satisfaction.I don't think it will get dramatically better with much more age.In my opinion this is a very good mid-term aging wine (2018-2025)
1/8/18, 6:07 AM - Duh !
12/13/17, 4:55 AM - One thing is sure ... we did not drink the same wine ! Opened 4 bottles always great juice ! Classical Bordeaux at its best ! Different "batches" ???
10/18/17, 5:19 PM - There is no comparison with 2010 .... I scored 97+ (4/13/2014) The 2010 is sheer class ! ( the 2015 is even too expensive !) would not buy it again.
5/30/14, 5:08 AM - In my opinion Domaine de Chevalier 05 is by far one of the most underrated wines of the vintage.I'm convinced that this has even much more potential than 09 and 10 that I've tasted recently.
6/1/14, 8:08 AM - Champagneinhand, even if I am a "rookie" on Cellar Tracker,I must say in all modesty that I collect and drink Bordeaux wines since more than 30 years.I totally agree with you when you say that Bordeaux needs at least 10-15 years before it is ready to drink. But this is a matter of personal taste and cellar. My cellar is not yours and your cellar is not mine and this is a rule that applies to all members of Cellar Tracker.I drink my wines when they are good.At this point"my"Domaine de chevalier 05 is good to drink and it is sure that I will still drink a bottle this year.Regarding the comparison with Domaine de Chevalier 09 and 10 I also drank these wines in their prime youth. Both were excellent, but in my own opinion not so deep and racy as 05 at the same stage.Scores of "famous wine critics" doesn't interersting me at all!!But only time will tell me if I am right or wrong.
6/2/14, 9:44 PM - I totally agree with you.Cheers!
