It took a loooong time for this to open up. Mostly red-fruit driven profile with tobacco, herbs and some minerality. It felt somewhat 'vintage' and I'm not sure that's the right description but seemed like an old wine even though just a 2010. I bought this on a whim from B-21 as it had a good year and the price was very decent for an aged Bordeaux. Admittedly I don't know anything about the producer - maybe I should have done some research first. Wine was good and enjoyable but not my favorite style.

Value: I paid $59.00 and I would say there's plenty of other options at that level I'd prefer

Would I buy again: maybe - it's possible this wine needs still more time to develop

Score: 90 points - good wine

4/26/24, 2:31 AM - I have been a long time admirer, have had at least 50 bottles, vintage 1986-2010, I agree that 2005 was my best vintage after 2000, 2009 and 2010 not like those, I only have one 2010 left, not buying anymore, the style is to me monotome.
1986 was clearly a star, it made me connect with Bordeaux after I lost it in the 80´. I even went to Bordeaux last year twice, the city is great. I like Bordeaux in a more modern style now.
    Thanx for the note.

Dried strawberry, earth, ultra light raspberry jam, and a touch of dark fruit on the nose. Pleasantly light and encouragingly spicy in the mouth, with a long light tingly finish. Better after decanting for a few hours, and held in the fridge overnight just fine.

Well integrated. Deep purple, firm tannins but not over the top. Pretty good balance of fruit and tannin. Nice finish. Really really benefits from a much longer aeration time. Figuring that’s 2015 for you. Two hours decantation had it be so much more expressive than before. Worth the wait to open it.

Opened 1 hour in advance, but not decanted. Fresh, energetic and with a good texture. Medium+ acidity, great integrated. It delivers lemon, red grapefruit, chalk, a less pronounced floral tone (clearly present however) and a nice underlying seaside/salty touch embracing it all. Great balance and length. Still young and with the structure to last for quite a while, but it drinks so damn well already if given some air.

WOTN. This was in a nice space, having lost some of the verve of youth, but not with any advanced or oxidized features. Regal and stately very classic in a sense, but less opulent than I would have imagined for a wine of its caliber. Clean delivery, good integration and intensity of flavor, and long on the palate.

A blend composed of relatively early-harvested Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenère. The exact blend isn't really known, but estimated to be one third of Merlot, one third of Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and the remainder rounded out by the remaining varieties. Fermented slowly in large cement tanks with no extraction. Aged for 6 months in old, neutral barriques, then returned to the cement tanks and bottled after several years of aging. 12,5% alcohol. Tasted in Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre 2010-1985 vertical tasting after 4 hours of decanting.

Luminous, moderately translucent and relatively youthful blackish-red color. Dry, fresh and somewhat restrained nose of brambly dark berries, some bayleaf, light meaty notes of beef stew, light gravelly mineral tones, a crunchy hint of red currant and a touch of fresh cherry. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and somewhat austere on the palate with somewhat lean flavors of raspberries, sanguine iron, some fresh black cherries, light floral tones, a little bit of gravelly minerality and a hint of red currant. The overall feel is balanced and harmonious with the moderately high acidity and well-behaved medium tannins. The finish is long, dry and clean with relaxed flavors of gravelly minerality, some red currants, a little bit of tart red plum, light notes of blood and a hint of dried herbs.

An attractive, sophisticated and harmonious Margaux that sings in a delicate voice, not with a booming baritone more typical of modern Bordeaux. The fruit here is more about freshness and flavors inclined towards crunchy berries rather than ripe, dark fruits. With no obvious oak to mask the flavors in rich, glossy tones, the wine isn't powerful or particularly expressive, but instead rather restrained and painfully precise. I was surprised to learn how light and easy the tannins were here, considering how tannic many of the 2010 Bordeaux reds have been - most likely this is all because of Jean-Pierre Boyer's very unextracted style. All in all, a lovely effort, but still very closed and all too young for consumption - even after 4 hours of decanting the wine really didn't give much. Most likely this won't be opening up before its 20th birthday. No need to hurry with this one - and expect the score to go up with age. Priced somewhat according to its quality at 44,90€.
  • Voodoo_Champagne commented:

9/6/20, 8:14 AM - It consists of 35% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec. Passing in front of Bel Air, passing traders with chemical fertilizer and nitrogen, the vineyard is only very easily changed into organic fertilizer exclusively. In any case, the vine is not pushed to give (maximum 20 to 30 hl / ha). Mr. BOYER does not have to harvest green. As a reminder, AOC Margaux approves a maximum yield of 45 hl / ha.

Superb "country wine". Imagine a "dejeuner sur l'herbe" in the French countryside, chequered table cloth, baguette and camembert. That sort of wine. Almost black, heavy fruit nose, full-bodied but fresh, hefty but with civilised tannins. Just what the doctor ordered for a dull winter evening. Outrageous QPR.

Popped and poured. Nice deep ruby color with good viscosity. Beautiful cherries in the nose. Nice spice too. This shows really nice class. Rich and full in the mouth but with beautiful balance. One large glass through Coravin, let it breathe for an hour then drank over an hour. Deep blackish crimson color, very dense wine with lots of concentration. On the nose truly amazing with perfumed blueberries, wild strawberries, black cherries, some stone, a lactic element, maybe a little ink and certainly you could smell the barriques or chai. On the palate still very primary but very rich dark red and black fruits, powerful, fat, opulent, drying tannins initially which soften with time in the glass. A long fat finish. A real treat despite its youth. Luckily I have 16 bottles which I will drink over the next 15 years or so.

Decanted over 6 hours, poured a small glass prior to decanting and was all tar and graphite at this time with mild to moderate tannins. After the decant was quite brambly and fruity with a nice luxurious mouthfeel, has a hint of tertiary character which I can’t describe all that well, was ever so slightly vegetal as well after the decant with sweet pepper notes. Moderate length finish, didn’t seem very acidic very nice. Will sit on my remaining bottles for around 5 years I think, though might be worth opening with a long decant.

Consumed as part of a blind tasting pitching an Australian sparking (Lethbridge Nadeson Collis NV against grower Champagne. THis is alos my first ever grower Champagne so was wanting to see if grower Champagne meets the hype.

Pastry, dough smell. Clean, ‘standard’ Champagne flavours. Wouldn’t personally have thought it any different to any other Champagne I can recall. The ‘14 Monvigliero is a fantastic wine and has developed nicely since release, the last time I had tasted it. While on release I thought this vintage was a bit disjointed and overly herbal, it seems to have come together, and this bottle showed really bright fruit and floral notes.

The nose was intensely perfumed immediately on opening the bottle, with red strawberry fruit, candied red floral tones, tropical fruit, and just a bit of the herbal, spicy character of Burlotto Monvigliero. Next to the 2013 Monvigliero, the ‘14 showed a redder fruit profile and some bright tropical fruit notes. On the palate, the ‘14 Monvigliero is full of energy, medium in body with almost no tannins but a nice amount of concentration, especially for this usually light wine in a lighter vintage. Next to the ‘13, the ‘14 showed about the same level of concentration and structure, which was pretty surprising.

There is no rush to drink the ‘14 Monvigliero, but it was stunning right now so if you have some it is time to check in.

Unmistakably Left Bank Bordeaux! The distinctive perfume spills from the bottle upon pulling the cork, and strengthens in the glass.

Fine balance of terroir, varietal expression, and oak treatment. Gritty and very well structured, expansive, impressive range, high quality finish.

More enjoyable and traditional than the house's 2020 offering, which features excessive polish. Seven to ten years in the cellar will serve it well.

This bottle was still a bit tight I think, or perhaps in a tunnel phase, but it was still enjoyable. A croquant fruit, blue and red, with licorice and cough syrup but mainly with a cool and clean feeling. Drunk next to Flavio Roddolo Barolo Ravera 2009, these wines are night and day but both have their place in my appreciation. The '13 Burlotto Cannubi was extremely tight at this stage both aromatically and on the palate, providing minimal enjoyment. I found it hard to assess the precise quality of the wine at this stage, but the concentration of the wine and quality of the tannin is solid. What little was perceptible of the flavor profile of the wine is classic Cannubi.

The nose was very muted, showing faint aromatics of dark red cherry fruit, roses, and orange peel with a lot of coaxing. On the palate, the wine was similarly super tight. It has a nice texture, medium in weight and concentrated, but with decently finessed tannins, although there is a lot of tannin here in need of significant time to integrate. I'd say the tannin quality is very good but not in the same league as the truly exceptional wines I've had in 2013, i.e. the Giuseppe Rinaldi Brunate / Tre Tine, Bartolo Mascarello, or Monfortino. I found dusty red cherry fruit, fresh roses, and some sweet spices, again only with a lot of coaxing. The wine clenches tight at the back end with a super tannic, unexpressive finish.

The '13 Cannubi is the tightest Barolo I have tasted in quite some time. I always find the Cannubi to be the tighter and more "classic" Barolo from Burlotto, in that it has a classic sense of tannic structure and seems like it needs a lot of time to develop. I have also found 2013s to be pretty tight right now. But my sense is that the 2013 Cannubi is a rustic wine compared to more recent Cannubi bottlings and is unlikely to be among the top wines from the 2013 Barolo vintage.

Surprisingly delicate for an '05 and definitely not the powerhouse typical of the vintage. Moderate nose of red and black currants, a bit of herbal spice and a floral streak. Medium bodied on the palate with well integrated tannins. Not tremendously complex and lacking a bit of depth, but it's perfectly enjoyable, just maybe expected a bit more. I do think another couple of years might help bring some additional positive development, but I don't anticipate this will ever bring the fireworks.

I'm going to preface this note by acknowledging I am about to gush like a giddy schoolchild.

Medium to dark purple colour.
Nose: wonderfully aromatic and fragrant with crunchy raspberry and cherry leading the way, warming spice and subtleties of light tobacco leaf, herb, and smoke teasing the depth this wine offers. The nose just offers Brilliant nose, seemingly always offering something different each time you raise the glass to your nose.

The palate greets with you more of the same, ripe cherry and red fruit in spades with nuances of blue fruit creeping through. This has a very good balance of acidity and tannins and such an elegant and polished mouthfeel. This is absolutely gorgeous - rich yet subtle, smooth yet lively all at the same time. This is such a complete wine and I can't help but rave about this to anyone who will (or won't) listen...!

Pretty confidently can say this is my favourite wine consumed over the past year or so. Absolute re-buy.

Pairing it with cannelloni made by Daniele in schaffhausen. Great match. Deep purple color. Sour cherries and a waft of warm alcohol on the nose. Med- acidity, med body, med alcohol, med flavor intensity, med tannins and med- finish. More sour cherries, minerality, too warm in the mouth, quite a watery finish. Rather average from an excellent producer.

2013 Barolo tasting at 67PM: Unfortunately very disappointing for a producer that I usually like. Disjointed dark fruit, the wine lacked focus and had a distracting prune note. Ranked 8/9.

Not very pinot-like. It's a big, acidic, tannic wine that is pretty good as a wine but not as a Bourgogne.

Medium to deep purple, mulberry, cassis, plum, and hints of menthol, bay, and earth, round red berry fruit on the attack with layered and deep black cherry fruit, touches of saline, and with medium-minus acidity, and soft tannins, finishes with high octane red and black fruit, violets, mineral streaks, earth, and more but also a touch green/stem

It's a 90+ point wine just maybe not my style

Massively tannic at first but better after several hours. Will save the remaining bottles for a while.

This wine continues to improve. Where will it go from here? I have one more bottle. Tannin has resolved and fruit and acidity remain. Popped and poured, this was a fabulous accompaniment to tonight's Lasagne. Great now, but will improve!

NOSE: ripe red fruit; medium-light pyrazine note; a touch smoky; overall, open and expressive.

BODY: medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: dark ripe red fruits; hint of pyrazine. Day 4: drinking better today than on day 1: it's more purple-fruited and stony today, with the pyrazine element more noticeable, too. Excellent. Drink Now and over the near term.

3 hour decant

This is definitely young but doesn't feel like infanticide.

The nose is intoxicating with strong rose petals, dark red and black fruit, minerals, black and green ties, and spice. Pixelated palate with medium+ body, great structure, and length, attractive depth and super finish.

So delicious today but in 5 years+ will be even better. If I had many of these bottles, I wouldn't hesitate to try one with a long decant. Singing.

Rich and opulent expression of pinot Noir. Day 1 hard and not balanced (87) On day 2 smooth, round and some silkiness. Prominent but well integrating tannins.Fruit, some earthiness, and spiciness, adequate length.
  • Voodoo_Champagne commented:

1/7/23, 12:30 AM - I made a comparison between Francois Lumpp and Domaine Joblot.
Clos du Gras Long 2018 and Clos du Celliers aux Moines 2020, very different wines, as a big fan of Joblot ,I found it more Burgundy in style and FL more like a superextracted Crozes Hermitage like Combier.
Somebody called Givry a southern Gevrey-Chambertin could be right.

Far more open & inviting than the '96 we had a bit ago. Gorgeous fresh wild berries; softened tannins singing backup. Violet, prune, touch of cedar & camphor on the nose. This is open for business and I'd drink up < 5 years.
