Like the rest of the 96s, this was not ready but also without the graphite and elegance you associate with Lafite

The Latour was theft of the three 96s, beating the Mouton, which was not evolved enough to drink and the Lafite which showed no lafite character. The condense scars these are just not ready yet which is surprising given they are 28 years old.

truly excellent bottle, i double decanted at 2 and put into decanter for 4 hours before serving. wine was smooth as silk with everything resolved and in balance. i would give it less time in the future as it started to get a porty back end in the glass after a while. this wine needs age. the 90 and 96 served along with it was fine but not in the same class.
score could go up with smarter decanting

The only way Latoya gets better is great older vintages. Both these bottles were looking young and fresh and were well balanced and fruity

Unbelievably this was still quite tight although the last bottle I had was drinking perfectly. Tonight the 61 outshone it by a mile

This wine has final come into its own. While it has not reached its peak, after 4 hours and 30 minutes open it started powerfully, clearly the best wine of the night. After a while I found the tannins to creep back in but the drinking window has opened and while this wine will improve for 20 years plus it’s a pleasure now

Fourth wine of a set of 4 right bank wines at Edwardian dinner. As expected this is way too young. But it will probably improve greatly over time but I would give it 10 years plus prior to trying it again

Precise, but well rounded with very forward tree fruits and balanced perfectly. This is great but still on the way up. this is early but very drinkable and with the premox situation, i am starting to drink grand crus earlier. if it never got better it would be wonderful but it will get better/. she makes the best batard

The 1971 La Tâche is amazing. It was lush, yet subtle, alive and totally electric in the mouth. we were both dazzled from start to finish with seemingly endless layers of sweet fruit and captivating aromatics from the first smell to the last sip. This is old Burgundy at its best. it surpassed the 78 i had a few months ago, although ether is a wonderful treat. A perfect wine for a celebration.

the last flight of the night was the matchup of the 89 La Mission and Haut Brion. The La <ission was the clear winner at first sip after both had been decanted about 2 hours but the HB was catching up quickly in the glass. We should have given them another hour of air. The La miss is prettier, more seductive and is catching up the to the HB over time, however both wines are essentially perfect and it does not get better in 80's bordeaux as of now. Thanks Jim and Rob, the table was split over which was the winner. These will live on longer than i do.

Much closer to the 96 than the 2001 but much more balanced and much tighter than the 2001 as well as heavier, for some people this was the favorite of the 3. Thanks Eugene, who said this showed as much more open. few weeks ago.

this was my favorite of the the three , athough its the least mature. the 9=6 is a little dense for me and the 02 is its baby brother but he 01 is as Eugene put it hight toned, bright and incredibly elegeant. Its a wine of complexity and depth, with notes of raspberry fruit, spice, a touch of leather and new oak. On the palate the wine is deep and offers lovely bright complexity, with good length and well-integrated tannins. this will only get better

The nose is black cherries, raspberries, spices, lots of oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, reserved and borderline over-oaked, with a good core, firm tannins and much more dense than its peers we drink that i would not have pegged as an RSV blind. It was still a beautiful wine. Thank you Stuart

High toned, fresh, very good nose. Tropical fruits with orange peel. strong minerality with the elegance of Chevalier should be. The wine continues to evolve in the glass while maintaining precision with good length. A smaller scale Chevalier that was delightful. Thank you Mike. the 01 and 04 just did not work out

There is a subtle, super-fresh nose of baked bread, pear, apple, spice and citrus.
Its full-bodied and complex with a long, long finish.this is just coming into its own and will be great for a long time. brought by Mike Pope

Close to perfection in a glass. Extremely well integrated with notes of peach and pineapple and the acids and tannins melted in to balance it all out. Definitely at the top of its game

Great richness and and deep red fruits of the nose are complemented by a deep cherry flavor in the mouth. Palate is still tight and will only get better with time. i would drink again in 5 years or so and it will be a knockout and show the elegance i expect from this wine. this could also be bottle variation as the last bottle I had was clearly superior. if i drink sooner i will give it a few hours of air.
