Still tastes very, very young showing bright red fruit, lots of crisp raspberries, high acidity, overall a very dry style, mineral and pure, medium bodied, some vegetal notes of licorice. While the tannins are soft this bottle still has some tangy acidity that prevents the wine from being elegant. A wine/bottle that currently needs food to shine. It turned out to be an excellent partner to a funghi porcini risotto. Overall a puristic bottle of Blaufränkisch, but cannot compete with the excellent 2006. Will hold another 5 years easily and might become more elegant and complex with age. - 89+ points

Tasted blind after 1.5 hours in decanter. Some guessed a dolcetto, which come to think about it...maybe, But not for this price! Overall an elegant wine, with distinctive aromas and soil inflicted mouthfeel. Burgundian style. Would like to see how it develops in a few years, maybe warrant acclaim and price

Notes from day 2. Dark red to purple in color. Nose of blackberry, peat, iodine, spice. Palate of blackberry, peat, pine, iodine, black tea, spice. The finish was above average in length with a nice mouthfeel. Overall the wine was nice with really reall good acidity, just missing a little acidity at this point. Drink or hold: 50+5+12+17+7 4

Really enjoyed this wine, outstanding nose. Blackberry, peat, iodine, prune, and spice. On the palate there was black raspberry, peat, black tea, and graphite. The finish was long and there was a good mouthfeel. Easily the best Blaufrankisch I have ever had.

D.C. Contingent's Weygandt Wine Tasting (Washington, D.C.): so bright in the glass! like magenta set on fire. lots of rasberries and cranberries, with lavender, and spices. lots of sweet cherry and rasberry fruit, backed by rich tannins and dusty, earthy notes. tight. this will age very well. glad the tasting crew got to taste this one, as i was a big champion of it. happy to see people liked it.

WLTV Offline @ Weygandt Wines; 5/17/2010-5/18/2010 (Weygandt Wines, Cleveland Park, Washington D.C.): Overwhelming nose of raspberry compote. There were subtle spices, herbs and floral notes - but I couldn't really get past the raspberries! A delicious wine that was a bit too forward for my palate...I can totally understand why people love this though. Very well made, elegant and balanced as well.

Weygandt Wines Tasting - WLTV Forum gang (Weygandt Wines, Washington, DC): Nose of peat moss and iodine and smoke. In the mouth, ton of dark fruits - overripe blackberries and tea and green pepper. Ripeness and oily texture are balanced by a stony finish. Concentrated, multidimensional, and certainly complex - just not the flavors that get me going in particular. Could see a palate with different preferences calling this a 95 point wine.

Uwe Schiefer Tasting (Washington, DC): the nose on this wine is heavenly. lavender, baking spices, rhubarb and cranberry sauce. the palate is surprisingly full. the fruit is so pure and vibrant, like a beam that hits the palate. explosive and spicy. this wine really makes you stop and think about it, yet it's so fun to drink. very nice finish. best blaufrankisch i've ever had.

Blaufrankisch Tasting (New York): Bottled just 3 mos. prior - lots of structure here. 40-80 yr old vines. Smoky nose, high quality depth and sweetness to the fruit on the palate. Needs serious time. 10+ years from vintage was the winemaker's recommended window.

Schiefer Reihburg-Vertikale 2024 mit Uwe Schiefer, Weinkosterei Burg Schlaining 23.2.2024, Austria (Weinkosterei, Schlaining Castle, Burgenland, Austria): From Magnum:
Deep red color color, young impression. Fresh aromas of red berries on the nose. Medium body. Palate: Red berries and a lot of acidity that keeps the wine fresh. Typical minerality / saltiness, easy to drink - the end is long! Very young for the age, especially from Magnum. Underestimated vintage, long life ahead...92++
