Bedrock syrahs at Bazaar Meat (Chicago, IL): Dark, dense, and meaty. Slightly stemmy but with balanced acids and black fruit; it took a little while for this to really strut its stuff, and I liked it with more air, as the syrah aromatics really began to take hold. A bit on the heavier side with respect to the fruit, I'd have liked a little more lift, but this is nevertheless very impressive.

PnP. This is still rocking with depth and life. Notes similar to five years ago with the addition of some olive in the mid-palate. Seems to have plenty of life left. Wish it wasn’t my last one.
This is even better on night two after VinVac.

Opened, not decanted. Deep garnet-purple in color, with aromas of smoky dried berry, black licorice, mocha, and a wild game note dissipating with a bit with air, though it was not unpleasant. The palate shows rich flavors of plum, blueberry, dark chocolate, and bacon fat. Medium acid and tannin, with a beautiful texture and long finish.

Had a mini bedrock tasting with friends we had this wine with a 2011 griffins lair and a 2012 Monte Rosso zin. This wine was the unanimous favorite, but they were all very good. I love MTP's wines. This wine continued to sing. gorgeous fruit up front, finish still holding up. I wish it wasn't my last one. It's got some life left, but since it is drinking so well right now-- I would drink now if you still have one

Excelled when given the proper air time - opening nicely initially with the leather / rubber / petrol - transitioned to more depth of fruit. Threw some sediment. Very enjoyable - not quite the gobs like the Griffin's Lair but tasty nonetheless.

Deep mix of ruby and purplish red. Very complex layers on the nose, starting off dark and savory with black olives and a touch of smoked meat. With some air the nose added some purple floral notes. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Savory attack on the palate with dark gravel, a bit smoky, and a touch of olive tapenade. Great structure and mouthfeel that lingers. A touch of dark red fruits with black raspberries and cherries near the finish. Long and dry finish. Drink till 2024.

This was an interesting night. Had this paired next to the Bedrock 2010 Hudson Vineyard South T'n'S-Blocks. When we opened both of them, I was concerned about brett with one and with corkage with the other. Same after initial tastes and even 20 minutes later. That being said, they both were fine and tasted very good after an hour. Not sure what the issue was. Liked the Pleine de Chene better. Richer, more complex. Very nice.

Big, smoky, and dark in the glass. Initial hot smell dissipates with time in the glass and some vigorous swirling, leaving behind bacon fat, blackberry, and spice in the aromas and palate. Not a timid wine, for sure, but when you are in the mood for something decadent but not quite over the top this is it!

Decanted for 3+ hours. There is so much going on with this wine. Fruit forward and plush in the attack. Doug Wilder's description of chocolate blackberry is dead on. It evolves into primarily blue fruit with layers of smoke and a little tar all wrapped in floral. Did not get the coffee influence that was prominent in other bottles. I opened this a little earlier than I expected to in order to serve at a fellow Bedrock lover's retirement celebration. I hope to hold my last bottle for 5+ years to see the next phase of this wine's evolution.

Bedrock does the fruity, voluptuous stanky so good Syrah as well as anyone, with enough bone marrow and mulberry lift to keep it together on the back end, and at a good price, too. Really hard not to like as an after-dinner card-playing segue into chocolate.

Taken to Scratch for happy hour and poured around the table before I tried it and realized it was corked. There was so much fruit in the original wine that it remained drinkable, I'd give it an 70 and the rest of the table maybe an 80-85 if they thought in those terms. Would have been another extroverted Syrah masterpiece from Bedrock but became just an alcoholic beverage.
blue and deep red berry notes on nose as well as mulberry. The taste is very full but an equal amount of acidity as well as fine tannins to keep this in check. Lingering smoky bacon and earth makes this even more compelling. Some licorice and anise in there as well. well made. This note is from 2nd day. 1st day it didn't show any of these notes. give this air or a decant

Splash decant ... Still really loving this one, which is drinking perfectly now. Less cloudy than my last bottle a year ago, and with less sediment than I expected based on previous experience. Deep, dark purple. Nose of berry and violets. At first sip, rich and creamy, with blackberry and chocolate. It deepens with a pop of acid, intact tannins, spice and earth. Lots going on and very well balanced. A bigger Bedrock Syrah amongst their offerings, but really awesomely done.

Wonderful~ Best Syrah I 've experienced from Bedrock, and so glad I have one more. On the level of a Carlisle, Booker, or Linne C. This is a deep purple beast, strong black berry and meat components on the nose. But so soft and luscious on the palate. Beautiful berry pie components with baking spices, and hints of some mince meat. Man I Loved this bottling!

Last year for “pleine de chene” as this will just become Hudson Vineyard North moving forward.
Small sample taste on PnP and then decanted 2-3+ hours. Nose of black cherry, deep blue & black fruit, cedar, tobacco leaf, fresh green herbs and splash of mineral. Rich and full-bodied palate with earthy profile and notes of black cherry, blue fruit, iron, dark licorice and touch of pepper. Fine grainy tannins, low:moderate acidity and a moderately lingering finish.
Although still young, this is approachable with few hours of decanting and will get better in another 1-2 years. Agree that this is opulent & hedonistic.

Decant approx. 30 min. ... Cloudy, unfiltered look; ruby color. Bright fruit on the nose and palate to open. Deeper, richer fruit, more black and blue, and earth on the mid. Finish with some spice, smoke and just a bit of cocoa. A dense, chewy blend. Surprised it was so smooth at this young age, and think it's definitely ready to drink now with a brief decant. Really enjoyable.

Not as oaky as the name suggests, but still showing more than I might like. A fairly rich and tasty syrah, but it doesn't go to the next level of being special enough to warrant the price. I'm a bigger fan of the Bedrock whites and the red heirloom/zinfandel wines.

Deep purple in the glass. A wonderful nose which combines some old world Rhone earth and forest floor notes with some new world stewed blackberries and plums. Full bodied and high alcohol with nice acidity that keeps it crisp. An initial attack of wild blackberry and wild blueberries as well as some vanilla and cloves. While the nose and initial attack are fantastic, I have an issue with the finish. The fruit fades after 10 seconds and I was left with an out if balance finish, dominated by alcohol.

Wow what a wonderful Syrah. An hour decant was not enough. Two hours would be better. Drinking great but still has lots of upside that's for sure. Should improve over the next 3-5 years and hold for another 3-5 years. Happy to have 3 more of these in my cellar.

Really well done syrah. Incredably floral nose. Highlight of the wine. Bacon fat, black fruit, lithe midpalate and a crisp lingering finish. A touch of heat competes with the finish, but nothing off-putting.

On pop and pour, this was deep purple with a huge aroma of dark fruits and flowers. On the palate, fruit exploded in a jammy mix. Decanted for an hour and drank over the next three. The palate was full of black and blue fruit with a layer that was somewhat floral in the background. This has great depth and nice spice on the long finish. best around 2-3 hours after decant. UPDATE: After 5 hours in the decanter, a wonderful layer of coffee appeared.

Really nice syrah; followed over 2 days. The nose was well-perfumed with meat, red cranberry-like fruit and dark berries, and the fruit on the palate was concentrated and integrated. Tasting notes revolved around the fruit primarily – blue and black berries with a red fruit streak that eventually evolved into kirsch – and on day 2, the wine even exhibited minerals on the finish. The mouthfeel was refined and silky smooth; the acidity kept this far from flabby. The only nit I could find with this one was a rather clipped finish, which was surprising given its other attributes. Overall, this is quality juice that is drinking great now.

Put in the decanter, and began drinking about 20 minutes after and followed over the next 4 hours. Drank with grilled filet mignon. I think this really was good after about 45 minutes in the decanter. Dark fruit/blackberry aroma with a good hint of tobacco. Taste has much of the same, with the dark fruits really coming through. It's got a bit of hotness right now that I think should go away with a bit more time in bottle. This really is quite enjoyable, the only complaint would be that it finishes a bit simple.

Black cherry, purple color. Meat, smoke and jammy blackberry nose. Smooth with good mouth feel, shockingly open for its age. Smoke, tar, meat, anise, even a little blueberry jam given some air time and white pepper throughout. Along with the Monte Rosso, this is one of the better reds IMHO that Morgan has made. I love big, meaty, smoky syrahs and this is one of the better ones I've had. Drank with only a Vinturi decant.

A great fruit structure but this bottle had a little bit of an off note on the finish. Was still really good but it held it back from the first two bottles we had.

Not as oaky as the name suggests, but still showing more than I might like. A fairly rich and tasty syrah, but it doesn't go to the next level of being special enough to warrant the price. I'm a bigger fan of the Bedrock whites and the red heirloom/zinfandel wines.

Another wonderful bottle of this wine that is definitely one of my favorite Bedrocks. Lots of upside for this wine I just hope I can show some patience to let my one remaining bottle age for an additional five years.

Blueberries, bacon fat and black cherries in the nose, supple on the palate with a long finish. Deep purple glass staining wine.

Wine Night 1/18/13: Decanted for 8+ hours.
I think this is a good example of pretty textbook Syrah. Blackberry, bacon fat, smoked meat, hint of eucalyptus, touch of minerality.
Give it a long decant or cellar for a couple more years.

Great nose, medium red brooding fruit, some blood, meat and random spices that I cannot place. Great explosion on the palate with no decant at all. Great balance overall, with decent length, maybe 25-30 second finish. This is really good.

Dense, luxurious, deep purple, which lasted for several days, pairing well with diverse food. Maybe a little too jammy for me.

Similar to my notes of 3/30/12. Black & blue fruits, meat, tar, smoke and pepper. Not as integrated as the first bottle. Finishes a little tart and watery. Still a complex and interesting wine.

Layers of flavor packed into this dense wine. Young but drinks great now! Different red fruits mixing with eathy, meaty, smoky notes that all work well together in this full bodied Syrah.

Bedrock Pickup Day (Sonoma, CA): Floral, raspberry nose. Med bodied with low to med acidity. Ripe red berry fruit, low tannin. Again, didn't give this my full attention but it seemed ready to go.
