Not quite hot but definitely loads of alcohol. Plenty of ripe plum fruit to go with the wonderful black pepper and mint. Moderate length to the finish.

Slipping a bit. Some good non-fruit flavors here from the mostly-Syrah blend. However there's not enough fruit to back up those flavors and the very present acidity. In this case I feel the CT window is right on. Probably better last year, and even better 2-3 years back.

Dark a fruity still though with perhaps a bit of an alcohol burn...though this dissipated after it been open a while. Bramble flavours with perhaps a hint of raspberry at the start. Also darker smokier flavours that worked well with the chili!

Fruit forward. Round and ripe, but years in the bottle have helped tame the big Syrah fruit. I found this wine a little too flabby to really give it a higher rating, although I think it may be a pretty good example of a reasonably built Ventoux.

Good but not as good as the 2010 Terraces next to it. For the $18 this cost, still a great value though. Purple in color. The nose is black raspberries with some char. On the palate, this is bigger, but less complex. Perhaps it will still get there. Lush black raspberry fruit. Some tannins. Some oak. Good finish. Both wines were quite food friendly and great QPRs.

Poor showing for this bottle. I hope it is only the bottle as I have a couple left. I would have thought this at peak now. Purple in color. The nose has a ton of barnyard. Pushing the limits and I like a fair amount. The barnyard carries thru to the palate. It is also quite drying, especially on the finish. Its not undrinkable, but its also not what I wanted. Some black cherry fruit. I will need to check in on another bottle soon.

On the nose, I am greeted by a pleasant minerality. Wow, then on the palate, a full spectrum of flavors, but with some drying tannins. Dark red fruit, garrigue, with a full mouthfeel and long finish. Very good, but rustique.

D+0h: no deposit in the bottle and hardly any in the filter, smells of blackberry and raspberry, D+4,5h: dark as ink, smells of blackberry and a little bit of eucalyptus, in the mouth slightly tannic, tastes of blackberry, medium body, the alcohol (14,5 %) is well integrated, in the aftertaste there are aromas of blackberry and more tannins,it's kind of furry on the teeth in the aftertaste, good length (25-30 secs.), will be better in a few years, I don't know if I would buy it again, for my taste this wine is too massive/brawny and rough for my taste.

So I finally had this last night all the nice reviews here. I opened one of these when I got them a couple of years ago. I should have waited till now. I really liked this especially after about 30 minutes of air. It was just what I expect in a Rhone- earthy, finished in that unfinished way and the thumbprints of the winemakers all over it. It was really nice with pasta pomodoro and Fiorello's sausage with onions and peppers. All I know is that this wine has backbone and character to dance with the amazing food I had. I thinks have two more. 2018 is three years away so I will visit this again in a long while.

served straight from the cellar, as we were eating out on the screened porch (still around 80 at dinnertime), so nose was not very expressive at the outset. actually pretty satisfying at that temp. as it warmed, a little blackberry compote, creosote, wild herbs; really supple and complete on the palate with more of that blackberry essence, not overly sweet or ripe, a touch peppery but pleasing. $16 on release; well-spent.
smoked pork loin with tomato-cucumber salsa, corn maque choux, rosemary-roasted potatoes, heirloom tomatoes with mint & evoo
1/26/2015 just a delightful syrah/grenache blend, not emphasizing one varietal over the other, but showing kirsch & plums, smoke & pepper, wild herbs, anise & soil. still a few years left at this stage of resolution. (89)
I remember a deep, rich color due to the 80% Syrah. This was probably also the source of the big, bold fruity punch in this wine. The 20% Grenache was so restrained that I remember wishing the winemaker had shifted his blend a little more toward the Grenache. An emminently drinkable wine with lots of flavor. On the other hand, the nose did not evolve much from when the cork just came out, nor did the palate show much variation from beginning to finish.

Drank this with no decanting. Smells of bike tire and Jolly Ranchers, but not in a gratifying way. Wine changed a lot over two hours. Initially had lovely soft Syrah on the front of the tongue but little else. By the end had some tar and tobacco but a bitter finish with no pleasant linger.

The fruit, both dark and red, was good and there was a decent amount of acidity and tannins, but the wine was disjointed, as it has gone into a shutdown phase where things inside are accessible, but never at the same time. The first bottle I had was very good, but this one fell apart quickly. I will let the last one sit for a few more years and hope that time in the cellar lets it integrate into an complete and even keeled wine.

Clear, cherry/garnet, dense/dark color at center, pale color to edge. Aroma of cherry, dark berry, currant, dried fruit, slight floral, some spice. Light oak, smoke bouquet. Fine and medium length. Dry with supple acid-citric, Med-full body with generous alcohol. Balanced tannins - only slightly astringent. Strong and pleasant aroma and bouquet in mouth. Still a young wine with 5+ years to develop. Overall, rich, dense, very drinkable.

Fairly seductive on first night, with bright raspberry and red licorice, and a challenging bouquet which reminded me of the 99' Musar, which I have had a few times. Feels much more disjointed after 24 hours in bottle, giving up way more heat than previously. Still a large wine, with red currents and a peppery, defined tannic structure. Acids perhaps a little flat, which seem a bit uncharacteristic given the predominate varietal is syrah rather than grenache.

Dark purple with a lovely funky Rhone aroma. Also aroma of currant, cherry, mineral, with a good dose of syrah spice on the tongue. The fine grained tannins were already well integrated for such a young wine. Well balanced acidity as well. The wine paired well with lasagna. The finish was of moderate length with a small dose of complexity.

Called this as mostly syrah from a mile away. Pinot like weight, but midnight black color. I'm not crazy about the nose, though a slight funk starts yielding to a really pleasant mint element after a few hours, and there's some very good dark fruit on the palate. Nice wine with good acidity and a serious load of tannin umderneath. It has a medium term future. 91+.

Very surprised how open and supple this wine was. Excellent for grilling or BBQ. Nice notes from both the Grenache and Syrah of Dark fruits with provincial herbs and white pepper. Decent acid gods hand in hand with smooth tannin. Long finish and great mouthfeel. Fantastic QPR. Glad I took a chance and bought 3 of these. 2 more for later this year.

God, mellemlang, men lidt metallisk eftersmag.

Young Southern Rhones (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Medium ruby. Ripe. Syrupy entry with a bit of anise for a modicum of complexity, then oafishly applied wood which dries out the finish. The most modern of the reds today. I really don't like this.

Lovely 80 percent Syrah and 20 percent Grenache blend. This wine is probably one of the better values from the Southern Rhône. It exhibits a very typical nose with tons of dark ripe fruit and pleasant vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with a nice balance between the different components. A bit short on the finish but fully open for business, I would suggest pairing this wine either to a nice Boeuf Bourguignon or to some Comté cheese. (score is 89-90)

Relatively aromatic on the nose given its youth, with dark fruit, forest, and spiced perfume. In the palate, excellent fruit depth while maintaining a sense of balance. Lush mouthfeel with only the slightest dryness on the finish. I was expecting more tannins. RP says this will last for a decade or more. Maybe, but not at my house! Ideally, these should be held for 2-3 years but the difficulty with that strategy is that it's very approachable now. The best sub-$20 of wine I've had in a very long time. I prefer this in style to many of the bolder '07s.

Inky purple in the glass. Aromas of licorice and dark berries. In the mouth, cherry, earth, and pepper. Full-bodied with a lengthy finish and fierce tannins. Be patient. I predict this wine will mature into something sublime in 5 to 10 years. Excellent QPR.

Dirty aromas of dark cherry, forest floor, and a little herb. Medium to full body. Flavors of spiced berries, minerality, and some fresh garden herbs. Dry grip on the finish, but less tannic than I presumed. Good food wine. More old world in style than new.

Rich lees smell, like it wasn't racked consistently. Va is present, but not overpowering. Very interesting wine, pushes the American palette.

God, mellemlang, men lidt metallisk eftersmag.

has a shy nose of red berries, the wine is very soft and lacks acidity, with that stated, it is a flat wine, the palate shows plums, black cherries and twig, the fruit is big but the overall presence is quite boring to me, had with teriaki stir fry

80% grenache, 20% syrah. 50% new oak. Very dry, firm tannins, very fruit forward, oak on the finish.

Young Southern Rhones (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Medium ruby. Ripe. Syrupy entry with a bit of anise for a modicum of complexity, then oafishly applied wood which dries out the finish. The most modern of the reds today. I really don't like this.

Cherry, black berries. It is still young and improve in the glass after 15 to 30 minutes. I would certainly carafe it next time. Well balanced.

Nose and palate of ripe rich berries upon opening, mellowing out over time to give off some oak and prune notes. Not very complex. A bit tannic.

Pretty good wine, but tannic is still fairly strong. Overall bold and complex but will drink something else at this price range.

This took some time to open. I think it will improve in the cellar. Nose has black raspberries and some dark cherries. A strong backbone of acidity. Nice fruit, not at all overwhelming. Works better with food. Good value.

Dark as pitch. Nose of butter and bacon. The palate is somewhat muted, but shows promise. Slightly sweet but mid palate it drys out completely. Finish is medium-long. Shows promise. Keep for another 4+ years.

Quite tight when we opened, but within a half hour this wine turns into a beautifully classic cotes du rhone displaying bright and dark fruits (strawberries to cherries) with nicely integrated tannins all of which make for this lovely velvety texture. Pure pleasure.
