(Decanted for one hour) Deep red colour with mature herbs, violet and licorice in a very delicious way. Nice and smooth tannins on the mature palate showing sweet primary fruit still adding a youthfulness. Very nice and pleasant. (Best 2001-2021)

It says there’s another 185 bottles in our community, you are the lucky ones. Again, paid $40 for this way back in the day. Had my last one 6 1/2 years ago and this bottle is better. So much fruit and depth, smooth silky but still nice body with a fairly long finish. I’m thinking this is how good 2010’s will turn out after 37 years. The wine was ready after 15 minutes then remained the same until I chewed my way through the sediment an hour later.

This one was tough to judge. It had some earthy notes but seemed like it had a hint of Brett. I’ll give it some time and revisit the rest of the bottle tomorrow.
Found this at a local wine merchant. Exceptional QPR. Drinking so well at present. Classic example of aged Bordeaux with soft tannins, gentle fruit and prominent secondary characteristics (cedar, tobacco, earth, etc.). Assigned it an unusually high score because of the value and experience that it delivered at such a reasonable price for 35 year old wine.

Open in the bottle for about 3-4 hours. Perfect cork (“rebouchee en 2018”); totally beautiful nose of tomato leaf, tobacco, gravel, plum and decaying leaves. Palate doesn’t quite live up to the nose but has minty, herbal, slight cherry cough syrup notes with more of that forest floor in the fall from the nose. Carmel is a good call. Tannins are just present enough to give the wine some verve but the body is a bit thinner than I was hoping for. But it’s still a great wine in my book; $50 on SommSelect and I would definitely buy again for that price.

This wine is soft and well integrated with flavors of warm carmel, tobacco, baking cherry and green pepper. There may be some mushroom notes in there as well. Tannins were fairly high but after the first glass they softened. PNP and enjoyed over 2 hours.

Much better than last bottle. Recent SommSelect purchase. I assume this is a recent ex-chateaux release. Everything looked brand new. Nice nose of cassis, Carmel, tobacco, cherry, with subtle hints of mushrooms, green pepper, perfume, Carmel and greenery, making this intriguing and complex. Palate shows gripping tannins and a streak of acidity. Palate confirms the nose and has a long tasty more mossy herbal finish. Wish I bought more. I may or may not have 1 left. Oy! 91+

Solid aged Bordeaux. Plum, tobacco, mushroom, forest floor on the nose. On the palate, mostly dry forest floor and tobacco leaf with some light black fruit remaining. Tannins and acidity are in a perfect place - soft, but well balanced. It's not an overly complex wine, but great QPR.

Even after a 2 our decant, this wine has just way too much tannin, no fruit at all is left. The nose was really classic of cigar box and cedar, like a great BDX, but that is all I can say for it. I am going to dump my last two bottles and put them in the vinegar barrel---I just do not see how this wine will get better, 'cause with no fruit, if you just age and let the tannins blow off, what will be left?

Got at Wine Exchange $30. Re-bottled, re-labeled and re-Corked at chateau. What a score! Fun to drink a BDX from such a great vintage without having to have aged it. I did a PnP but I recommend a 1 hour decant and make sure at RT. Classic BDX. Cigar/cedary characters. Fruit is definitely fading, but the soft and complex tannins kind of make up for it.
Drinking fresh for a 30+ year old wine, with very little old wine signature. The concentration is good, with some light cedary notes and some finishing grip and structure. I really enjoyed this.

Unmistakeable Bordeaux nose. Vibrant red and black fruit, some earth and tobacco but also a lighter flowery flavor peeking through as well. Seems almost impossible this wine is 32 years old. Seems it could easily go 15-20 more.

This might be the single greatest purchase I have made in the last year. Unbelievable value. Aged Bordeaux in pristine condition, reconditioned by the Chateau with a new cork. Clearly an old wine with lovely aromatics of potpourri, earth and charcoal. Soft and supple on the palate with delicious sweet red fruit beautifully integrated with all the secondary characteristics. I should have bought more.

Fully mature and at peak, very fresh upon opening with abundant fruit for the age. Those 1986 tannins are still firm and give the wine a nice tight and long finish and lightness on its feet. What is missing in this wine is the abundance of the secondary development that you hope for when you open something this old. You can definitely taste the age, but no sewer, decay, meatiness...A delicious aged bordeaux for your california loving company. Drink
Structurally a 93 and in interest a 91..So we will stick this one with the lower score.

Very interesting wine. You could tell it was old but still seemed quite youthful. It had some spice box but still seem to have some tannins. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one but it was very enjoyable. I imagine it still has a lot of i time left.

Poured blind. The aromatics clued me into something with age, with the signs of cigar box, spice and those kinds of sensory markers of an aged Bdx or something from that side of the world. Juicy, with black/fred fruit, currant, tobacco and some drying tannin.

This bottling has been with the Château and then re corked and shipped directly to winex. Light maroon color, showing some age but more youthful than expected. Cassis and dark plum flavors with a sandelwood foundation. Good earth tones and slight drying at the finish. Really enjoyable. I brought this for Seiber and he took the rest home. Mission accomplished.

This was a perfectly stored wine. Probably the best $40 bottle I've drank. Opened poured in a decanter but poured in glass and drank right away. Beautiful color, some sediment, great nose. Tons of fruit still acidity and tiny bit of tannic but just to hold it together. Subtle mature ripe red fruits. Everything else very well integrated. Perfectly silky smooth mature Bordeaux, can't imagine it ever drank better. Really happy I have 4 more. We drank and did not take notes but wanted to share this really good $40 - 1986 with anyone who cares.

Much better showing than the previous 2 bottles I have had. A fabulous mature bottle of Bordeaux, especially given the price paid. On the nose stable, wet hay, herbs, medicinal herbs (cough medicine), tobacco, leather, licorice, black currant and some gravel. On the palate this shows perfectly mature, almost as if it was from Margaux, with fine dry fruit, some earth, fine tannins, and fine high acidity. Really good, actually fab. Wish I had more of this in the cellar.

Pulled the cork 1 hour before serving. Shows notes of band-aid, leather, cocoa, and black currant. On the palate it's smooth save for the somewhat aggressive brett, which steadily overwhelmed the wine. I estimate the wine was pleasurable for about 30-40 minutes before the band-aid elements got to be too much.

Brownbag of the North (Hemmavid, Umeå): Blind. Decanted 4 hrs, in my Swe appt. Impression: Outstanding with wow-wow. Cork wet the whole way. Showed nothing of elderly gentlemen, but a LOT of Brett, like sitting in with the cows. Slightly thin on the fruit in this showing, but a great wine in that all ppl pin-pointed it as a Bordeaux. Cedar, Bordeaux earth, olive brine and sumi ink line up on the palate.
One glass left in uncorked btl for 20 hrs shows much more fruit and interesting good qualities. Brett has quieted, someone put a sordino on it. Mature and abundant tannins are taking over the finish and olive brine stays long. The "old genteleman cheesy smell" from before is back, but in a small dose. This is a 2 point upgrade! From 90 yesterday to 92 today.
We enjoyed reading PMNilsson's comment on wanting his money back after not enjoying the show, and we'd happily buy his lot.

A fabulous bottle, this '86 really delivers the goods. This is what we hope to get from a mature cru bourgeois: earthy, gravelly nose with tobacco, leather, stable, and still a surprising amount of fruit left. Structured taste with firm but ripe tannins, minerality and freshness. Much better than the '85 we opened a week or two ago.

Non-blind. Decanted 4 hrs and slow-ox 3 hrs. At Cuscina 13 Avrillo. Impression: Outstanding Nose of murky forest floor, cedar, fine tobacco, some leather and olive brine. Only very small "elderly gentleman's aromas" thanks to the decanting. On the palate shows off the reason why mature Bordeaux is the s**t. Sumi ink wrestling the perfect acids and high dose tannin. Enough fruit to live a number of years. Great length and vibrant marriage to the bacon-porcini plate, the arabiata pasta plate, the meat plate and the cheese plate. Maybe some previous TN's may reflect bottle variation and/or the wide-spread mis-conception that ample tannins in the elderly equals lack of fruit? This wine definitely has good fruit still. Small sips with much air is a good method for deeper penetration in to tannic/young wines. (Wife: 91p.) Last bottle in ~2016.

Always love older Bordeaux. This is in no way a top wine, but age sometimes helps. In my opinion, when compared with its one year older sibling, I did prefer that one slightly more than this vintage. Enjoyable wine. Nose has all components of mature Bordeaux, and is quite enjoyable. The fruit is a bit dead, and the balance is not 100%, as acidity has a slight advantage over the fruit. Fine grained tannins. A bit too short to satisfy me completely. Still, a good wine for the buck, and always nice to come by mature bottles. It’s time to drink these bottles now rather than later.

Non-blind. Decanted ~1 hr. @Mikael J. Impression: Outstanding (91p) Mature, dark red/brown color. Old gentelman's unwashed socks or cheese shop hides the rest of the nose. In the mouth this is an elevated, mature Bordeaux that is probably just past mid-term of it's drinking window. Earth, leather, mature fruit, cedar wood etc. As I love mature Bordeaux, I don't feel stressed with our 2 remaining btls.

Farge lett murstein, litt grumsete.

Over the hill. Not enjoyable. Flat. May have been nice 5-10 years ago. I will return the rest of my bottles to the store.

Dinner at Matt and Francesca’s (Vancouver, BC): No formal notes. Opened and served 30min later. This was shockingly very good. Classic claret profile, a bit hard on the palate but very enjoyable. Very good.

Past it´s prime. A bit thin and with some typical bordeauxtones not much of a nose. A bit of stabletones. This wine was propably a 90+ wine. It was Propably at it´s peak around 2010.

Deep and complex aromas of truffles, forest floor, a hint of mature Oloroso sherry and red berries. Medium bodied, still a powerful tannic structure, some root cellar notes and a nice finish.

Non-blind. Decanted 4 hrs and slow-ox 3 hrs. At Cuscina 13 Avrillo.
Impression: Outstanding
Nose of murky forest floor, cedar, fine tobacco, some leather and olive brine.

@Mikael J.
Impression: Outstanding (91p)
Mature, dark red/brown color.

The nose is mature and complex with tones of tobacco, leather and ceder wood and the palate is medium-full wih nice fruit and soft tannines.
Matched the tenderised entrécôte from heiser just perfectly.

tasting the May releases from the Government monopoly with "the cupbearers" (Näringslivets hus, Stockholm): Brick color, sloeberry, grass, graphite and pencil shavings, short finish but very delicious and well integrated body. Tannins feel like someone has taken the finest sandpaper and brushed for a millenium against the small particles until there's almost nothing left.
