I'm not really a Napa cab kind of guy but this was really nice. While ripe fruits dominate that was some balance and structure to keep it together. I didn't get that tired feeling that can happen with some cabs. Drank from magnum. In that format still has time to go.

Very dark core with crimson rim; salty, briney nose with blackberry, ripe Cabernet notes; well put together and very tasty; still young and should age for many more years; called '01 Napa Cab.

Very impressed with this! The bottle evolved dramatically over the 3 hours it was consumed. It began with a strong dose of acid...30 min later the nose showed some funk while the palette expressed a touch of cedar and currant. After an hour, many of the elements began to ease into a series of herbal qualities including eucalyptus, a touch of plum, mint. The dark fruit is still powerful and tertiary qualities of leather and cedar are very much apparent. It's in a perfect place in my opinion and quite a lovely experience.

Drank with Thanksgiving dinner. This wine was in perfect condition. The cork pulled easily and the wine had only the normal amount of sediment you'd except from an 11 year old Cab. The biggest thing that surprised me about this wine was just how dark the fruit was for a Cab from Coombsville. It was enjoyed along side a 1990 Spoto Cab, 2000 Dalla Valle Cab and a 2004 Pride Chard. The only bottle I preferred to it was the Dalla Valle and that was only by a hair. It definitely had those typical Randy Dunn characteristics and I'd say stored under proper conditions this bottle still has about 5-6 years left on it. I will definitely be looking to purchase more of this.

I agree with Mattjohnson. The wine was decanted for a couple of hours and was drinking wonderfully throughout the evening. This is certaiinly not a California fruit bomb and is more in the old world style. Wish I had more.

one of the best california cabs i have had in a while. cant understand where everyone is coming from bashing this wine. from owc this wine is showing massive randy dunn characteristics! just brilliant! i wish more wine makers took this approch. no formal notes, but mint, eucalyptus, dusty coco, a little bit of leather and dried black cherries and raspberries. just a great drink!

I good napa cab at 10 years old but for the price I would be underwhelmed. I paid nothing for it so I can't complain much. If you still have this vintage around drink it ASAP.

with trepidation we opened this, not sure if it would be over the hill. We only gave it about 15 minutes to air and it had a good full flavor. It paired quite well with 100% grass fed lamb meatballs. Tannins were about right..still a full flavor, nice acidity. Wish I had another bottle.

I thought this wine blew away the '06 for quality. Cool, meaty barnyard notes on the nose, but just enough to be intruiging. Still quite tannic, great acidity. Really delicious stuff.

Last bottle of this vintage and the worst one. Down the drain. Every bottle was disappointing. I don't shop at the wine store anymore that pushed these on me a couple of years ago.

Another disappointing bottle. Good nose but jammy fruit with a sour tang beginning mid palate and going through the finsih. I'm so bummed. Worst QPR EVER. Ended up pouring it down drain and opening something different for the night as it wasn't worth drinking. I have one more. "Hope spring eternal".

What a disappointment! After being opened for 2 days (evacuated, of course) it finally started to show a little of the promise the reputation of the label brings. Poorly integrated, the tannins are over-powering until sufficient air time over comes. This is a very poorly balanced wine that becomes drinkable after plenty of air. It will not be served to any of my guests - ever.

I am starting to believe that some of the 2001's have a problem affecting the wine. Not sure what corked wine taste's like but there is something defintly wrong with a few of these bottles with a distinctive musting odor and weird underlying taste. This wine tastes great at the winery and is very different in the last couple of bottles I have had.

Decanted for 2 hours. Better than the reviews I've read here. Still very tannic. The fruit's not gone, it's overpowered by the tannin. I like the bouquet better than the taste. I get dark red fruit, black cherry, blueberry in the bouquet. I will be interested to see how this turns out.

Decanted 1 hour before drinking. Has an odd, musty edge to it that disipates as it breathes. Got better over the 2 hours we drank it. Nose of dark fruit and oak. Reasonably balanced with a medium long finsih.

Plonk. Randy Dunn should be ashamed for having his name on the juice. Hope the consult fee was worth whoring his name out. The other 5 bottles are going down the sink when I'm done typing.

What a difference a year makes! The '02 Palmaz was outstanding and I was expecting this to be great. This was slightly chalky and out of sync. The finesse was missing and it reminded me of deteriorating Mondavi Reserve, with a pruning effect in the aftertaste that is indicative of its decline. Oh well...let's stick to the '02.

Totally disagree with the pros on this one. Very nice cab nose with dark fruits present. Very nice mid palate with a smooth velvety mouth feel. Beautiful finish with rounded tannins blending in seemlessly with the fruit. Very nice effort.

14 days without wine! getting sick + no wine = big weight loss. i've got some holiday drinking to catch up with, so i spontaneously opened this wine given to me last week as a gift. wow, pretty generous, as this is listed at $100.
i had never heard of this producer, but the label identifies randy dunn as the winemaker, it's an 01, so good vintage, and of course, the giver lathered it in high praise.
now for the disclaimer, i looked this wine up in the parker database while i was sipping. ugh. RMP 85. ok, let's see what it is all about.
one taste made me splash decant STAT. the wine was horribly dry and void of fruit. closed? the tannins are sickingly sweet, and the nose is nothing but cassis and major oak. ladies and gentlemen, this wine is flat out putrid. undrinkable. parker's score of 85 is a gift of unimaginable proportion. somebody better hope this is closed, but i don't think so, i think it just sucks. and at $100, this could be the biggest rip off cab ever produced in napa. jesus, this makes me want to open a quilceda creek. only someone utterly without any high end drinking experience could possibly like this, and i would venture that even then it's only because they droped a benjie on it. tasted blind, drain time. hell, not blind it's going down the drain.
i'm back, baby, i'm back!!

Overall, a disappointment. It's past its time. Drink now. Left a more alcohol feeling that that of a fine wine. Tastes of old berries and chocolate.
