Served blind, all guessed Burg, golden yellow, buttery, long finish, thought fairly young ie 10 yrs or younger, honeysuckle, lovely elegance, thought a Puligny, beautiful wine

Saturday get-together: Showing some advanced nuttiness and demi-sec deep lemon flavors, but certainly not without requisite freshness and energy. There is a nice bead of acidity that keeps it all moving along, with faint white rock notes peeking through the otherwise honeyed citrus core. Almond skin, yellow roses, ripe yellow pear, and mango all make an appearance here as well. This is in a very good spot for my palate given the freshness-depth-complexity balance that I need in my Meursault before they get too reduced, falling off into fat camp and becoming overly globular.
A very cool contribution from AaronMaxwell! Always a treat to sample any white Burg that has some age on it (and no premox! – Super bonus!)

New friends, new wines in Novato: No good notes for this wine, but remember that it was well received amongst the group. I do remember a nice vein of chalkiness and minerality that comes from white burgs and was a common theme when drinking these lovely wines

Drank this alongside the 2015 Barre. Consistent with prior note the 2004 is in a great place, a leaner vintage balances Barre natural richness, add no sign of POX and voila, a delicious mature Meursault

Nicely evolved since my last bottle a few years ago. A little funk initially but after 20 minutes it blew off leaving a classic nose of lively yellow fruits and butterscotch, some minerality present as well. The higher acidity of the vintage combined with this wines rich yellow fruit core makes the 2004 a more engaging wine than the 2002 which I had a few months ago. Still has some upside and should be delicious over the next 5 years.

Good showing, but seemingly a little different than the last time around. Nice and reductive with big sulphur and cool smoke on the nose. Big and round on the palate. Very fresh, flavourful, very pleasurable, but not overly complex.

Yellow. Big nose of deep and rich tropical fruit, ripe mango, pineapple, and juicy peaches. Trace premature oxidation. Curious notes of sesame, miso, and soy hang around. Bouquet freshens up somewhat with time, some white florals. Perhaps further advanced than expected for the age, recall the 2000 enjoyed a few months ago as much fresher and cleaner cut. This is fat and huge on the palate, loads of mango and pineapple. High acid propels a sensational finish. Less developed on the palate than the nose. Pleasant mouthcoating texture as well. Serious white burg, drank great over a few hours tonight.

Round and mature. Most at the table didn't get near the vintage in our guessing games. Quite ready, viscous, excellent flavour which improved in the glass for several hours. My last bottle. I wouldn't recommend keeping it for long at this stage. Mine was well cellared.

Not much going on with the nose, even after one hour in the decanter. Big, rich round citrus oil in the mouth with a touch of nuttiness. Love the texture.

Drank the 2004 Desire and Clos du Barre side by side. Mid yellow color, on the nose along with hints citrus. This was richer, fuller, more complex, more energy and longer finish than the Desiree. Quite a nice wine

Rich and opulent. Good concentration of Peach fruit tinged with a dollop of butter. There’s some honeysuckle development and it is round in the mouth filling every crevice. Absolutely ready to go right now.

Still light yellow. Nose is peach and apple with a touch of hazelnut and a dollop of new oak. Unfolded well on the palate and not too alcoholic. Good balance. Young but very pleasing and a nice accompaniment to tuna.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/17/2013-5/18/2013 (Chicago, IL): Quite young. Pale yellow with a tinge of green. Some sulphur on the nose still. Aromas of tart white peaches, tangerines, and a little bit of vanilla. The palate is very delicate, without any buttery texture. Lovely green acidity, this is a very pretty Meursault.

Smoky, lemon and peanuts, sesame seeds. Lacks acidity, where is the beautiful '04 acidity?!! Round. A touch of exotic fruit. Finish oaky. Some honey notes. Overall it tastes like an elegant Calif chard with restrained oak. A little chenin like as well at times. Not my cup of tea.

We had the CLos de la Barre 2004 and the Charmes 2004 together. To everyones surprise, the Clos de la Barre was the most enjoyable and harmonious wine at this stage. Very elegant and lifted nose with fresh notes of citrus and butter, still a bit forward and almost overseas, but with good definition. Mature heavy fruit with good mouthfill and a very long finish carried by the acidity. Lovely and very much Lafon! The Charmes was obviously fatter and more layered, but it was alse less defined on the nose and a bit too extracted and heavy without the freshness of the Clos de la Barre. Charmes is often quite heavy, but this was too much I thought.

The Verticals at La Paulee de San Francisco (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): From magnum. Aromas of peach, roasted hazelnut, orange peel and lemon peel, still showing some new oak elements. Flavors started with peach and orange , then became more lean towards finish, but still powerful, spicy and ripe. Good minerality, modest acidity.

A medium intense bright golden core, with a distincly clearing rim. The nose is medium-plus intense and quite distinctive in offering up notes of panforte and Turkish delight, but also funky tertiary mushrooms, peat and brown butter. Perhaps a bit too evolved considering the vintage? Just about medium-plus bodied on the attack, reasonably refined medium-plus integrating acidity is offset by well-integrated wood notes and fresher fruit than on the nose. A cocktail of pronounced citrus, candied lemon rind and –sherbet flavours receive even more interest from oriental spices. The finished adds an extra infusion of acidity but nothing in the way of complexity and keeps its balance for 20-25 seconds, so I’ll give 91 points and that seems to be as good as it will ever get which is –it has to be noted– pretty darn high for a village wine. It just does not have the finesse of nobler terroirs, however. Judging by the acidity, it seems capable of being kept for a few years more, but you all know the drill on that sort of thing. .... Medium deep yellow. 13%. Decanted for 2 hours. Very open and rich nose (served blind, some people thought it to be overseas, mode specifically Kistler) of nuts and mature yellow fruits, no butter or oak on the nose though. Full bodied, oily, rich mouthfeel, with long aftertaste. I got a sensation that after you swallowed, the typical butter from Meursault could be tasted on the back of the toungue, as part of the finish. This wine is rocking at the moment, absolutely no need to hide it away any longer!

04 whites are just as easy to identify blind as their red counterparts; they do have a green element. This showed some celery and pot pouri aromas along with a little ginger spice, lemons and white peach. It has a certain vintage derived leanness that suits the usual more flamboyant Lafon style and is a very tasty drink, enjoyed by all at the table.

Vin Vino Wine 2004 Meursault Tasting: Deep yellow color, almost golden. Rich lemon butter nose, with some floral notes. Spicy, nutty palate with good tartness and then smooth. Long finish. I’d be worried about premox on this wine, as it appears more advanced than I would expect. Drink up.

This is a young Meursault, but it shows great promise. Quite restrained for the first hour, but then showing citrus flavors and a great deal of minerality. Fat, almost oily texture that turns creamy in the mouth. Long, persistant finish. This will turn in to something outstanding in another 5 to 10 years. At restaurant Cru in Oslo.

Lunch w/ Chris @ Eleven Madison Park. Still showing some new oak, but wonderfully harmonious and balanced. Ripe fruit that just barely crosses over into the tropical end of the spectrum. Some honey/nut flavors too. Supple texture. Moderate to long finish. Textbook Meursault. Delicious stuff.

An evening with good food, great people and amazing wine (Where the silence is longed for): Great nose of honey notes, deep minerals and deep yellow flowers. Loved the honeyed, yellow fruits on the palate. The age also brought a nice integrated texture. I think with even a bit more age, the weight can lighten a bit too (in a good way).
