A small gathering at Bryan's (Undisclosed location in McLean, VA): Ex La Tour D’Argent bottling. Surprise by the beautiful light golden color. Initially a bit fat and subdue nose. With air, expressive nose displaying ripe sweet yellow fruit with a hint of white, lemon, lemon curd, apple, lanoline, coconut, a hint of butterscotch, vanilla/oak, sweet spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of rich sweet yellow fruit, oily and rich, but also good balance, medium acidity, strong mineral, and a long rich ripe yellow fruit driven finish with vanilla and lanoline at the end. This actually has aged correctly and is drinking well.

Small vertical, non blind... Not as good as one would expect from this appellation and producer, rather short follow through but still nice acidity and fruit component.

Glorious white burg here. Young, dense yet seamless and regal, with strong notes of vanilla and quince. Close to a perfect chardonnay bouquet for my mileage, fruity without heaviness, great acidic spine, long and delicious. 93-94 pts.

At open wine was closed but I think we were all relieved it wasn't premoxed. After an hour or so lime and mineral with a nice richness. Wine was well balanced without showing signs of tiring. Another excellent wine tonight.

At Jade Palace for a birthday dinner. Yellow. This had a lovely elegant nose, lots of yellow fruits like kiwis, mangoes, peaches and cream. On the palate, this had the signature Lafon elegance, sweetness, vibrancy and complexity. Lots of toffee, vanilla cream, peaches and caramel. The balance was splendid, with just the right amount of acidity, sweetness and fruit, and structure. In a lovely place right now as well.

Impressions from the 2014 La Paulee Verticals Tasting (Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco): Medium yellow. Some tropical fruit, but the most lees and soil of the wines. Unfortunately, an off acetate aroma. This trait was still present but not as noticeable in a second bottle, which was not pristine but was better than the first. Disturbing bottle variation in 2 of the Lafon vintages.

Medium yellow color. Very intense nose with layers of tropical yellow fruit, plums, melted butter, chamomile flower and roasted oak. Huge intensity on the palate with loads of yellow plums that expands over the midpalate and finish with notes of roasted cocoa beans, chamomile the, herbs and nuts. The focus is on purity and freshness, as well as the amazing length. Powerful acidity adds to the style which really seems to be restraint and refinement to perfection.

Dinner w/ Stewart & Heidi Woodman (Fugaise, Minneapolis): More aromatically reserved than the 2001 Marc Colin Puligny-Montrachet Le Trezin that proceeded it in our flight, this showed intense flavors of stones, minerals, and chalk. Tropical fruits, honey, and some spice. Beautifully delineated, cut, and balanced.

La Paulée de San Francisco - The Verticals (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Maturing fruit, very good now with more elegance than intensity and nuance.

La Paulée de San Francisco 2014 Verticals Tasting (The Fairmont, San Francisco): As with the 2007, the nose seems somewhat reticent, the palate is supple and round with nice maturing fruit, really lovely.
