The wine starts as an inky purple pool of blackness with very long legs.
The nose is a fruit forward, blueberry tinged waftiness with a hint of cranberry that subsides into a loamy, peat edge of earth and sky.
Drinking is where this wine comes into its own. The flavor profile is a very pleasant mix of sweet berries, rose petals and vanilla with a long, pleasing finish.
We paired with a zesty barbecue meat medley and it held up extremely well. This has an excellent QPR and we are actively looking to buy some more.

For the price (under $10.00, a very drinkable wine with food. Its mouth filling richness (perceived as sweetness by the experienced red wine drinker) is enjoyed by the novice - it's not fine wine, but it is tasty with food.

I agree with the tasting notes from others who didn't like this wine. It's way too sweet for my taste. The nose is decent, but there is a viscous, cloying quality on the palate. If you like sweet red wines, maybe this would be ok for you. Or maybe it would be acceptable in a sangria...maybe. I will not buy it again, even at less than $10 a bottle.

Deep ruby, almost purple in color. Fruit forward with dark cherry and maybe a bit of plum on the nose. Assertive oak influence adds some vanilla to the mix. Also a noticeable hint of sweetness. Alcohol and sweetness dominate the mix giving an impression of full body and light tannins make for a smooth and easy drinking wine. Definitely not an elegant wine, but its not trying to be, so it's OK. Overall not an unpleasant experience and right on par in terms of QPR.

Christmas Dinner. Used one and half cups for the standing rib roast. After taking a whiff of the Apothic I poured the remainder into my in-laws glasses. Decided that the cook should pop a 2005 Georgia Paddock Australian shiraz. Merry Christmas from the guy who's probably going to hell!
Consistent with my previous TNs. Overall I judge '09 best, followed by '08, '10, and then '11. Well made, with layered flavors and nice smooth taste and finish. Chocolate and Cherry predominate but vanilla and other dark fruits do show

Seriously though, this is sickly sweet, with no beginning, middle or end (it's just 'there'), with lots of heat and an engineered/manufactured quality that screams laboratory experiment. And those are the good traits.
Very fruity, a little sweet, a hint of complexity, some pepper, some tannin, a short finish with more fruit. Not bad at all for the price (under $9 at Costco). Good with pizza or burgers, or just when you want a pleasant, uncomplicated red without spending a lot.

Sickening confection of vanilla cherry syrup. A truly, truly awful wine. If it were any worse it would start to get better again. I weep when I think of the $10 I could have spent on any number of perfectly serviceable wines from Portugal, Sicily, and southern France for the price. I'm trying to think of a wine I had that wasn't outright defective that was quite this bad. I'm stumped.
Not a "good wine" by any means BUT for the price point, better than some of the other "super affordable" wines out there. Very soft on the palate, heavy on the Zinfandel and Merlot with those rich berry and chocolate notes… sweet... and oh, that syrupy consistency. However, it grew on me after a few sips, and that's my point, it became tolerable versus something I couldn't even drink at first sip. Must add: a near clone to the Menage a Trois red blend - which did not grow on me - as Apothic is a bit better. Serve it to those with an amateur palate and those who say "I don't like red wine" because they like sweet stuff -- you get my drift. Not the worst wine ever.

I was re-gifted this from a friend as a joke. The nose reminds me of a sweet incense candle. Raspberry pie filling and spice. The palate is very sweet & jammy- cherry/raspberry pie filling. Zero acidity, no tannins, and the flavors aren't that bold or interesting. Obviously this fills a niche for some given how many cases are stacked up at any grocery store, but I can't call it a serious wine whatsoever.

It looks like a short time in cellar can benefit this wine. This bottle was much smoother and less bite than the first bottle I had and its been sitting upright (plastic composite cork) in my cellar for about 6 months. A nice wine-- chocolate, cherry, oak and smooth tannin. You can tell the Cab has been added -- has a definite Cab character

color: dark purple; nose: cherry and oak; taste: full-bodied mouth feel, jammy fruit taste, medium-length finish with tones of chocolate and green pepper; overall: decent and friendly (albeit ordinary) New World wine, suitable for a weeknight pour or a porchside summer BBQ party, very good QPR ($8.70) at Costco

No, no, no, no, no. Sorry, but... just no. I would definitely have to count myself in the "hot mess" camp regarding this wine. Is it drinkable? Yes. But is it good? Sadly no. However I do agree that it does go down easily, and for that I can't put it in the "Avoid" category scoring-wise, but it's definitely not for me. Agree with the vanilla aromas, as well as some weak alcohol on the nose. Very dark purple, with a slightly syrupy consistency. The taste is basically just a wash of sugary grape juice and vanilla flavors. It also does degenerate very quickly at room temperature, so it's probably best to either chill it a little first or pour right when serving dinner. Or, of course, you could just get something else. EDIT: You know what? On further consideration, what else would the "Avoid" category be for, if not for something like this? Avoid this wine.
Definitely does not deserve a rating in the 90 range, but neither does it merit the tongue-lashing and beating given in the 50-70 ratings. This is a reasonable bottle of red for under $10. It cannot stand up to any of the better California blends in its price range (i.e. Edie Brown, Marietta), but it is decent if consumed in one sitting. Chill it a bit before opening and make certain it goes back in the fridge if you have any leftover. Pair it with spicy and savory summer foods. The BBQ suggestions are spot on.
Interesting one. My score is based on the first hour of the performance. Obvious sugar plum taste with some complexity and thickness. Syrupy body. Very fruity driven and very easy drinking. I know the reason why people gave bi-polar comments on this wine. The balance of this wine can only stand for around 30-60 minutes. Afterwards, it turns out to be too sweet and becomes unbalanced syrupy sweet candy-like grape juice. NEED TO CONSUME IT VERY VERY QUICKLY after opening! Treat as party drink and don't get serious. Serve during BBQ would be perfect.

Extremely sweet and artificial. Didn't make me feel like throwing up (unlike the last time) but still just awful. Just horrible. At best, it tastes like bad cough syrup. How anyone can score this at 90pts or higher just boggles the imagination. Obviously, totally different taste in wine.

Syrupy sweet grape juice with no character, body, complexity, finish, or tannins.. So sweet that I can hardly detect any alcohol. Add lots of ice and drink on a hot summer day, or pour over ice cream.

This is a great everyday, non-special occasion wine. Very fruity, somewhat sweet and smooth finish, not a lot of tannins. Love to have this wine on hand to drink with a surprise visitor. This is an easy wine for someone making the transition into drinking reds. And the price is always great at $10.

Apothic has been one our go to bottles (especially to bring to other people's houses), but it the 2010 variety does not seem to be as good. It is still OK, though seems to be missing some of the complexity. It has a pretty unique vanilla flavor with some jammy fruit and mild acid. Buy again: Maybe

Have had several bottles of 2010 and it is not quite up to the 2009. The addition of the Cab has added some slight bitterness to the finish. That being said, its still a great value wine. Nose is always fruity and full, with a slight hint of oak hidden in the background. The taste is fruit forward with a mouth full of chocolate and cherries. The mouth is full and surprisingly complex for a wine of this price. The winemakers adeptly use the residual sugar to hide its minor flaws; its a bit sweeter than I would like it to be but that is what makes it so desirable to so many. This wine is almost always the favorite of non vinofiles that we party with. It is always a pleasure to drink -- it just simply tastes good and goes down way too easily

This product is just not for me. I see comments from folks who like it and that's fine, but my spouse and I can't even call this wine. Liquid jam is more the word - just not our style. I often buy wine "blind" to try new things but this was for us a surprising waste of money.

Red blend: Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot. Recommended by wine distributor at local grocery store for a friend that enjoys red blends. Paid $7.99 on sale. Very fruit forward and easy drinking. Very little alcohol on a short finish. Great value for price for those that enjoy a more "fruity" wine. My friend really enjoyed this one. Me, not my favorite.
