  • Not decanted. A bit murky rather than clear, so probably a bit of very fine sediment. On the nose there's furniture polish, and some sour cherry. Balanced towards the fresh, and lacking a bit depth in the fruit. Good length. This bottle was a little step down from one I drank almost exactly a year ago, so I go down one point to the borderline between very good and excellent.

  • From a stony plot above the village where Benjamin manages the vines. Intense dark red. An expressive nose shouting fresh calcaire de Premeaux, rose petals and red pinot fruit. The mouthfeel is refined but straight in its boot, with good red fruited flavors, and finishing fresh and chiselled . This uphill wine is not a dense blockbuster, but after all this place is not Mitants, santenots or clos des chenes, it is uphill on thin soil, and Benjamin made a perfectly balanced wine in a warm vintage. It is just entering its drinking window and may evolve into a supremely elegant Volnay in 10 years.

  • Some slight visual signs of ageing. On the nose, it's deep and fresh with several layers. There's the obligatory sour cherries, with hibiscus and furniture polish. In the mouth it is fresh, with very good length. I will not say elegant, but it may become elegant with time. It works very well with food, though, and that's a major plus for any wine. (My points are conservative, to fit with the original scale. So this is an excellent wine!)

  • La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting vertical. Complex and layered now, even without being particularly powerful. Very good now.

  • Sunday lunch with friends. This wine has a deep cherry red colour and a reticent nose that opened in the glass to reveal red cherries, wild strawberries and dark raspberries with touches of menthol, autumn herbs and limestone. The palate is medium weight and quite tight with a firm finish of tannin and stony minerality. Despite the lovely crunchy fruit flavours and mineral touches this wine is quite closed and probably will reward another 5-10 years in a dark cool cellar.

  • Lots of red fruit flavours - cherries and berries, with hints of liquorice and vanilla. Unfortunately there was also band aid and barnyard aromas that are just starting to distract from the fruit and will probably worsen over time.

  • First wine from Leroux (other than a corked bottle in Beaune...) the nose is very classic Volnay, ripe red berry fruits (red currant, strawberry, tart raspberry), very floral and mineral, with just hints of some wood spice. The palate has lots of fruit and extract yet from the first sip seems elegant and ethereal, there is a hint of spice and fennel with crushed stone and lilac lingering; lovely acidity and great with food. This is very in line with many 2010s I've had and is simply delicious; this has plenty of upside for another decade given the concentration, but drinks really well now given the balance. My price was not a great value, but if I could find this for $50-60 I'd buy 6 more in a blink.

  • Think 90 is spot on, it's just there that drinking it is pleasant but it's not a strong showing. Nothing wrong with it any any means. It is indeed young and might develop further.

  • Medium ruby. Lovely red fruit and soil tones. Light but good intensity, excellent focusing acidity, creosote and fine tannins. Refined and very Volnay. Still taut, needs time.

  • Light red color. Very elegant, with clean Pinot fruit. Minimalistic styled and not plagued by oak. A bit short finish.

  • Sweet cherry and strawberries abound in this crunchy little number. It has nice shape with a creamy mouthfeel and is quite long.
