Quiet good, but I think the acidity is starting to fall, knocking the sweetness/acid balance off. Lychees, white flowers, sweet herbs. Don't get (and miss) the petrol note of riesling fame

A nice wine that, by today's standards, would come off as a spatlese (and not a particularly heavy one, either). There is some development evident on the nose (especially) and palate; however, it retains freshness, vivacity, and lots of primary fruit. The balance is perfect. Admittedly, there isn't a ton of complexity, and the finish is on the shorter side. Still a lovely wine, and a very plausible choice for a meal with spicy food.

Color: medium gold Nose: intense with tropical fruit and flowers; lychee nuts; some vanilla notes. Extraordinary aroma Body/flavor: medium; delicious, complex tropical fruit and spices. Matched with Bananas Foster! Aftertaste: clean, bright, lingering.
Sadly my last bottle of this particular wine and vintage.

Light gold in color. Expressive and complex nose shows touch of lacquer, melange of smoky green herbs, kaffir lime leaves and citrus oils. A linear and well defined palate shows cooked and candied green/yellow citrus fruits, pears, excellent balance to the sweetness and acidity and a long off-dry finish redolent with aromatic green herbs.

Pale gold in color. Aromas of lacquer, touch of petrol, quince, jellied lemon candy and herbs make up a rather interesting nose. This is quite fine with satin textured pear-orchard fruit jam, lemon curd and smoky herbs with good acidity, sweetness receding to the background and a long perfectly off-dry finish.

Intense herbaceousness on the front that came as a real surprise after the Lauer Spatlese that preceded it. (Went so well with the tarragon in our Coq au Riesling [and the dish, generally] that I didn't quite believe it, as if somehow someone had dropped some tarragon leaves into my glass; they hadn't.) After the herbal attack, it opens into fruit -- kaffir lime? Kumquat? More fleshy than nervy on the palate. I got very little in the way of diesel/petrol notes.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of light diesel notes, cherries and kumquats. Flavors of oranges, cherries and apricots. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Not a big Riesling drinker, so take with a grain of salt, but I thought this was kind of meh. Came across fairly flat and a bit weak in the middle. It tasted like a decent, restrained Riesling with white petals, honey, and a touch of petrol. Nothing to dislike, but nothing tugging me back either.

This was a very good bottle. No petrol, which is fine with me. Complex and off dry at this point. Just beautiful and elegant riesling. Lots of life left.

Another good showing. This was bright, fresh and pure. Very dry for wearing the Auslese designation. ended up in a flight with the '90 Trimbach Freddie VT and a young Ostertag. Bit of a hodge podge there, of the three this was the best wine match to the chicken liver torte dish that was its pairing. No rush to drink these but showing well now.

Pale gold color. Airy and lovely aromas of white flowers, citrus and nut oils, honeysuckle, apples and quince makes up a captivating nose. A racy palate follows through with ripe citrus, cream, apple/pear preserves, salty minerals and good balance to the sweetness and acidity. This is indeed quite superb, and for the price, wow!

I feel like I'm betting on a wild card when buying some of the older Germans from Garagiste, but given the low absolute price point I can typically convince myself "how bad could it be?" I like Urz Wurz fruit so took the leap here and glad I did. Drinking very nicely - doesn't have the "electricity" I look for in Riesling but nicely balanced fruit and great mouthfeel. Golden color but light and not at all cloying. Acidity still in play and the apple/apricot profile was very engaging. Likely going to hold form for a while so no hurry to drink but it's perfectly good now at this 20yr mark. A kudos to Garagiste for finding aged examples for their customers, that alone is a service.

Very tasty and nice with pronounced petrol on the nose, and stone fruit and honey on the palate. Unfortunately lacking acidity which is a big detractor.

First experience with aged Riesling, I am surprised by how much life there is here. Medium body, medium acidity, notes of pear, petrol orange rind, lemon zest. Drank with a honey lavender, cumin, coriander scented seared duck breast, it paired beautiful.

Wonderful wine. Lots of life left. Not the most complex aged auslese I've had, but absolutely no complaints. Deep golden, nice floral and still fruit! nose. Overt petrol notes lead with palate of orange, lemon, and grapefruit. Long finish. Drank with blackened snapper and guacamole rice and black beans.

clocks in at 8%EtOH nose - peach, dried apricot, superbly fragrant room temp, still goin strong at age ~19. mouth- a nice drink, very mellow, but the sweet outperforms the acidity here keeping this from becoming anything particularly interesting. Still broad in the palate with a long finish, it is a pleasure to be able to drink this.

No detailed notes. Seems pretty resolved, and for my tastes could actually use a bit more acidity. A great pairing with bratwurst, but a bit overbearing / flabby on its own.

Light gold in color, less intense than I anticipated. Sweet, fresh nose of peach and grapefruit. Sweet citrus taste with good acidity. Not a lot of complexity given the age, but quite enjoyable as an after dinner drink. Well balanced with a smooth, lingering finish. Has some life left.

This bottle was opened after Thanksgiving dinner with dessert. I would have rating it higher but surprisingly enough this wine hasn't even started to develop its secondary characteristics yet. It's color was bright and vibrant. If I had tasted it blind I would've guessed it was a 3-4 year old Riesling. The fruit notes were still big and fruit forward ie; lemon, tart apples, white flowers and some limestone. I'm glad I have 2 more bottles of this because I think its got at least 10 years left if not more to develop. Very impressed.

We were not terribly impressed with this given the age and that it is an auslese. Had some intrusive green, woody notes and was a bit thin. Slightly off-dry. Still has some fruit and petrol. Decent acidity. On the whole, neither great nor terrible. Perhaps it didn't age well or perhaps it wasn't very good to begin with.

I opened this and chilled it down from cellar to 45. Man this was a good wine. There are floral, tropical fruit, and apple notes on the nose. There is apricot, vanilla, stone, and petrol notes on the finish. It's not too sweet, but there is still a decent amount of fruit evident. There is a perfect amount of acidity. The finish is absolutely amazing. It must be close to a minute. This was an amazing QPR at $30 for an 18 year old wine.
