Perhaps left this one too late, unfortunately. Strangely sweet yet the fruit all but gone, though the acid and oak in balance showing what this once was.

Popped and poured from the cellar, then straight into the fridge for a 30 minute decant. Pale, clear white gold in colour. Fresh nose of tropical and white stone fruits, very nice. Soft mouth filling texture, light body, tropical, pineapple, pear upfront which continues mid palate to finish with a pleasant hint of tang and acidity, longish finish. Quite enjoyable without being a powerful chardonnay, nutty not overtly oaky, a refreshing tipple.

Alcohol :: 14% Drank over 3hrs. I always like Pierro's chardonnay for its finesse and elegance. Sweet peach, roasted nut, ripe mango, Asian spices and soft mineral. Medium bodied, pure and seamless in the mouth. Th harmony and class is shown even at this infant stage. As delicious as this, it is quite straightforward and it would need more time to develop layer of complexity and nuances in the bottle. Long.

Langton's Cellar Club Tasting 3 March 2012 - Coates Wines, Pierro, Wines of Spain (Roof Terrace Australian Museum): Lemon green, pale, clear Medium intensity, youthful, clean. Butter and toasted oak over lemon citrus with hints of apricot, hazelnut and honey, sweet spice and a tiny touch of smoky bacon Medium plus acid, medium minus tannin, medium plus body, medium flavour intensity, dry, phenolic grip, stone fruit, spice, medium alcohol, long finish – lasts forever – with a touch of slight liquorice as well on the end.. Buttery and rich mouth feel, A little warm alcohol is also carried on the finish. Very good, lots of subtle wine making but fruit still shines, it needs time.

Nicely done New world chard. Lacking depth and complexity though.
