A 65th Birthday Celebration (Schur House - Riverwoods IL): Small glass. Charming and complex aromas with mature fruit and savory spice that doesn't fully re-emerge in the flavors. Also complex, but more mature and nearly hollow.

Gosh, this was damn good. Audozed for one hour. Mostly tertiaries (esp. old leather, old cigar box, dried leaves), with fruit buried deep in the background. After two hrs open, black fruit and esp. cassis surfaced and made this a bit more generous and plump. Incredible balance. Tannins incredibly fine, almost powdery. Beautiful acidity. Zero obtrusiveness of oak or of alcohol. Label indicates only 12.5pct ABV. What a delight! Old Napa Cab - why did CA change its ways? I could drink this all the time.

Mild funk blew off with some aeration. Surprising berry and black fruit that seemed fresh. Tannins softened but some pleasant pepper and mushroom on the finish. Most interesting that this is still drinking so well.

11/20/2010 1992 Napa Cab Retrospective - Alan and Gabi's place - wine not inspring. Over the hill, past it's prime , paled in comparison to others. Wine did open up more in the glass, but this was either flawed or just over the hill.

Very nice cherry and berry fruit, some earth and leather notes, but with well-integrated tannins that aren’t overpowering and a lovely, long finish. Great Bordeaux-style wine!

Very nice bottle. Everyone confused it with the '99 Cos D'Estournel (which it blew away). It had all of the terroir, and nose that you expect from a bordeaux blend. Amazing that there was still fruit there after 15 years.
Drink 'em if you've got them.

Good dark purple color. Mild discoloration at the rim, but still pretty youthful in appearance. Hard to avoid the big beefy bell pepper and earthy nose. Cherry, leather and bell pepper hit the tongue with a lot of force. Lots of tannin but they don't overwhelm and there is a little heat as this bordeaux blend goes down the gullet. I am not sure what I like more, the wine or what I paid for it?

Seattle Tasting Group does 22 years of Phelps Insignia (Bellevue, WA, USA): The nose is spicy with bell pepper, quite herbal in character. On the palate this is more subtle and somewhat angular and lean, showing a bit of alcohol. I did mote that the balance was nice, and this was a pleasant wine in tough company tonight.

Earthy, dirty, and fun.
Masculine characters on nose and finish
Smoky and mushroom were consistent themes
A hint of black fruit on the finish....
