Clear ruby color with bright tart cherry fruit upon opening with a bit of raspberry. Secondary flavors more predominate with pencil lead some leather and a medium body still showing some legs. Enjoyable without food and went well with homemade pizza pie. Probably close to drinking up as the fruit is fading....IMHO

A brilliant ruby in the glass with color out to the edges, the nose features bright cherry, raspberry, citrus (bitter orange?) and a touch of violet and leather. High-toned just short of tart, medium-bodied with an admirably long finish. Was a good pairing with pasta with a spicy marinara sauce and antibiotics-free, organic Italian sausage.

Last bottle of this wine - still love it. It may be a little short and a little lacking in structure to get a higher score, but it is a wonderful wine to drink, anyway. I don't think it will get any better than it is now, so my advice would be to drink it while it's drinking so well. I would buy this wine again in a flash!

Still has plenty of life in it, could handle a couple more years in the cellar but is drinking really well right now with controlled tannins, dried cherry, vanilla, camphor, a little plum.

Have drunk various I Balzini since 2006 vintage (white, green, black, red labels) and they always need a lot of age. This 2009 is the 2nd bottle I have consumed and it still needs more time. Acids and tannic acids are still strong and in 2019 it will be better. Giving it an 88 assuming it will get better, present rating is more like 85-86. My preferred wines are their white labels (50-50 sangio and cabernet).

Another great QPR Super Tuscan from WTSO under $20. Nicely integrated tannins with bit of cocoa and nice red fruit. Would buy again if offered. Have bought many different D'Isanto Balzini labels Red, Black and White and have found them all to be a great wine especially for the prices offered from WTSO. Can't go wrong here.

A really delicious bottle of wine - quite light in color but nonetheless a beautiful red hue to hit; nice fruit up-front (I got quite a bit of cherry), with more structure in the middle and back and overall a great deal for the $21 I paid per bottle.

What a difference another year or so made in this wine. The nose has come alive, the flavors are smooth and intense. Lots of fruit, some spice, good finish. It would be hard to find a better 20$ bottle of wine. Should last at least another few years. The extra time in bottle totally changed my opinion of this wine. 92+

Not a pop n pour. I missed older notes about giving this wine time to breathe and simply poured without benefit of Venturi or time in a decanter. First taste was not a typical tightness, rather is was coarse and nasty. Opened up after 20 - 30 minutes of swirling in the glass. I will leave the remaining bottles to age a bit more before opening. Went well with pasta and tomato sauce.

I'm struggling to understand the high WS score. This is thin and not very interesting. Seems light for the blend. I'm not sure this will improve. Might as well hold and see how it is in a couple of years. Worst case, I can cook with it. At best, this needs food and is an everyday wine.

Update from my first tasting: Nose: Cherry, with dark plum, eucalyptus, cinnamon, sandalwood, and a bit of meat. Taste: Black cherry predominates, but goes watery after ten seconds or so. Accompanied by flinty earth, tart citrus zest, and dusty tannin. Attack: soft for ten seconds, then acid and tannin dry the palate. Somewhat short finish. Window: 2015-2018. Overall: I gave this an 86 the first time around. Maybe there was some bottle shock going on, or a threshold level of cork taint. Either way, this bottle is much better. There's a fair bit more fruit, and the spice box is more muted. However, there's a watery thinness from the middle on, plus that dark plum bit, that cause this to be poorly integrated. Still poor QPR for $18, but at least now it's in the ballpark.

Tart cherry, spice, eucalyptus. Not bad flavors by themselves, but they just don't blend very well here. The result is a wine that is a little sharp and unbalanced. Not particularly smooth or food friendly which is uncharacteristic of Tuscan reds in general.

I must admit, I'm somewhere in the middle of Wineglas' comments on this wine, and fairly far from the other reviewers. Given the disparity, I'm wondering about quality control on this wine.
This is surprisingly spicy and tannic for a merlot-driven wine. Conversely, this has really recessed fruit for a merlot-driven wine. Thin mouthfeel. The tannins need time, but I doubt what little fruit there is can hold up. Pizza wine now, or risk it by cellaring until 2017? It's OK, but I'm not rushing to buy more.

Cherries on the nose and on the palatte, translucent red...definitely lighter bodied than the I Balzini White Label (which I really liked)...significant tannins but they seem more bitter rather than I like. Finished acidic, with some alcholic heat. Maybe these need some time for the acidity to settle down and everything to integrate a little more.

Light red and looks like the color of a cheap wine. Day 2 review. Vinturied. Candied fruit, spice, raspberries, cedar, minerals and rose petals. The palate is much better than the nose at this point. Clear dark red hues with moderate viscosity and bright reflections. The aromas need air time to develop and consist of currant and cherry that are framed by sawdust, dried herbs and cocoa nibs. The palate is structured and full. Moderate-plus acidity keeps this wine fresh, while the tannins are gripping. Mid palate density is good where there currant, cherry and cedar flavors play out with coffee and savory herb flavors. The finish is long and moderate in intensity. This wine is still young and should develop nicely with some bottle age. Be patient and be rewarded.

I drank this after having a glass of one of my favorite wines 2009 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The first sip seemed acidity and I wasn't sure if I liked it. By the time I had finished the glass it didn't seem as acid and I enjoyed it. However I don't think it's worth $18 a bottle.

A nose of cherry and spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Super Tuscan with black cherry, blueberry, herbs and spice with still some heat, an easy drinker, decant.
