Very nice, grapefruit, lime and an appealing bitter finish of citrus pith. I can’t help but feel that this would benefit from a little residual sugar to fill in the framework a bit as this doesn’t completely succeed as a dry wine but it’s still a good and enjoyable GG.

Really lively nose of passion fruit, fresh green herbs and soursop. Has some rich fruit upfront, this is soft textured and supple. The rich fruit midpalate gives a false impression of sweetness, whether true or not this comes across just off dry.

Mike's Riesling Dinner (The Glasshouse): Very good wine. Sinuous and lifted, energetic nose. Lovely balance on the palate between lemon sherbet at the beginning and end, and creaminess on the mid-palate - reminiscent of SA Chenin Blanc. Surprisingly good match for pasta with a truffle and parmesan sauce.

This wine is killer. Linear, pure greatness. All minerals and flowers with just a touch of apple. Incredibly intense and penetrating. Lights up the palate and cuts on the finish. Unique and glorious. Will drink well for years. (94)

"Let's spend all our money on grape juice" (Chicago, IL): #14-12, 13% abv. This is slightly creamy and doesn't really have the cut that I'm looking for. At the same time, it feels quite drying and sharp, on account of its missing that extra bit of sweetness to round things out. Feels kind of clunky -- maybe I caught this at an awkward moment, but to me this is another in a long line of meh dry Mosel rieslings.

Orders of magnitude fresher than the Muller. Pale and ultra-cleansing fruit featuring pears, lemon/lime, little white flowers. You know those soap commercials where someone is bouncing across fields of green and stony mountain streams - this is like that.

As a lover of Lauer wines, I found this watery and disappointing. It was young in appearance - light gold and bright with a muted range of soft Riesling scents, but never became more nostril worthy. Very diluted taste and no development in the glass. Lacks structure and this seems at odds with others' experience, but this did not seem like a GG. Way behind the Immich Ellergrub. Can only presume this was not representative

Dam my last one! This is just incredible, the nose has got a great range of florals, apples, pineapples, wonderful minerals, the palate is all about purity, persistence and harmony of the acidity and fruit

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium lemon color, with wide watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of citrus fruit such as lemon and lime, green fruit of pear, mineral notes of stony, stone fruit of white peach, maturity notes of petrol, floral notes of linden, tropical fruit of melon. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium alcohol level, with medium (-) body and medium(+) intensity on flavors of citrus fruit of lime, green fruit of pear, mineral notes of stony, maturity notes of petrol, floral notes of linden. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality German Riesling with a good concentrated nose showing complex characters, demonstrating how good the varietal can be even at a young age, this wine has an elegant structure, but still showing plenty of intensity on the palate, balancing well on the acidity and the ripeness, with a good finish. Ready to drink now, the wine can further develop for another 3-5 years.

This is crazy good. Pure, fresh, cristal clear fruit framed by delicate floral notes and soil tones. Stunning right now. So good it is tough to hold some.

Really minerally on the nose - crisp, great lime, lovely, crushed minerals and stones, broth. Elegant but good concentration. Bigger on the palate - bitter and peach pit, flint, brothy with good concentration. Good balance. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16-16.5/20.

Rich ripe noes of melon and mango. Dry with just the slightest whiff of sugar to keep things balanced. Initially quite bright, but there is an underlying brooding intensity which makes this intriguing. My favorite of the Lauer offerings...

Great layered nose of pineapple, white peach, some floral element and a hint of crushed rock, palate is wonderfully balanced, a restrained acidity tingles as the tropical fruit mix flows, I know this is only going to keep getting better but I just stay away from them!

I've now had the Unterstenbersch, Neuenbersch, and Schonfels in 2011. They are all spectacular. This one is definitely the one that stands out if you're playing "one of these things is not like the other ones," not because it's on another plane of quality but just on account of style. The material is lusher, creamier, and sweeter-tasting than its 8g of sugar would suggest, although this isn't really something that becomes apparent until it warms up in the glass; when you drink it chilled, it is defined by its cutting, racy acidity and that relief texture that people call "filigreed" when they're talking about riesling. The fruit was also simultaneously enriched and lifted by those sorts of cleansing, vaguely floral non-fruit aromatics that seem like they belong to a scented candle or fancy bubble bath product. Considering this is supposed to be one of Lauer's most elite sites, I was actually surprised not to find this more reticent, but it is actually a wine that throws its arms wide and welcomes you in. It pulls off that perfect balancing act between precision and luscious drinkability that Lauer has aced like no other producer.

This was an amazing drinking experience from the nose through to the long finish, notes of lemon zest, some pineapple and some crushed flowers. The wine itself has plenty acidity but is completely balanced with the fruit

Ever so slightly off-dry, incredible mineral content, subdued fruits, and nervy acidity. Round mouthfeel. Grew drier and more mineral as I followed it over a few weeks; impressively, it was never overcome by the extended oxygen exposure.

Did Lauer blow the vintage? The 2011 Senior was disappointing, and this is not much better. It's herbal and grassy and there's not enough depth or concentration in the midpalate to balance the acid, making it crunchy rather than juicy.

Spectacular aromatics, an array of ripe orchard fruits, florality, minerality, higher toned herbal flavours and some sponti yeasty notes combining into a scent that's hard to move away from. Each sip wows with a vivid, crystalline mineral character infusing the fruit, bright acids keeping it very fresh, vibrant and impeccably balanced, and finishing long with barely any sense of sweetness. This certainly lives up to the hype I've heard for Schonfels.

PNP into white wine glass (“Leaf” day): Medium golden to the eyes.
Very detailed sweet spices and stone fruits and citrus fruits.
Highly mineral and amazingly enjoyable as always consistent with the producer’s style.
94 points.
