  • Lemon and lime dominate the nose, there’s a little undertone of yeasty bread. Opens really fresh and zingy on the palate, there’s crunchy green apple and lime juice. Really pure flavours. Lots of zingy acidity. Great depth all the way through the palate - finishes with a lovely lemon curd flavour. Really liked this.

  • Sommelier pick at Pappas Steakhouse. A suggest pairing for a dozen oysters to start the evening. Consumed half the bottle and finished the rest at home the next day.

A very generous suggestion considering it was the last bottle and on the menu for $100. What an absolute gem of a suggestion. Mid body viscosity, balanced fruit with driving minerality. Zero experience with Australian Semillion. What an introduction!

Even better on day two. Still cruising.

  • At is years of age the wine's colour is developing with the last of the green hues slowly losing out to lemon yellows. Aromas are of lifted tahitian lime, as well as desirable beeswax and crusty bread notes.
A fuller, richer palate structure with flavours of honey, lemon curd and toast abound. The increase in texture, almost oak-like character, is part of the magic of Hunter Semillon. Excellent acid structure completes an outstanding Hunter Valley Semillon that is at the peak of its power. BWOOD

  • I have never had this wine but have always enjoyed Aged HV Sem's. this one was stunning. Rich and oily in the mouth with lemon, gentle tropical fruit and long linear finish. A velvet underground of acid propping it up. And easy another 20 years in the cellar. Cracking wine and one to hunt down. And a perfect starter to the evenings frivolities. Thanks Jezzer

  • Sealed under screwcap, this has an inviting nose of lemon butter, mint, toast and dried herbs. It has a steely backbone and is starting to flesh out, showing intense citrus fruit flavours. It has great poise and cut and is thoroughly engaging and refreshing.

  • Rich sherbet and key lime pie with gunflint, wet hay, and some tropical fruit. Punchy and powerful, though not quite the depth and roundness of flavour I get on Tyrell's Vat 1. Still a long lovely finish that wavers between savoury and fruit laden. Good stuff.

  • One of the most incredible Aussie Whites I've had the blessing to taste.

Was it a bird (Chardonnay)? Was it a plane (Semillon)? We were all stumped. But one thing was for sure:

    THIS WAS THE REAL DEAL!

Pure understated brilliance best sums this up.

The sheer elegance, refinement & complexity of this wine had me mesmerised in delicate citrus, lemongrass, slate, nuttiness and cream. The ultra pale yellow should have given it away: this was no Chardonnay. But the velvet-smooth, long creamy drive & finish had me doubting it was a Semillon.

    Truly sublime.

Small wonder Halliday gave it a 98 and tag as being the best ILR produced. It was a great wine to try blind. Even at this early stage for Semillon Royalty, which this is. A Wozza 95.5/100 (4.3/5.0) from me. With more surely to come ...

  • Initially lemon/lime high acid, transitions to oily/slightly creamy beeswax flavor

It's definitely more complex but not necessarily more enjoyable than their entry level semillon that is 1/3 of the price

  • Intense limey fruit, high acid, but it really fizzes in the mouth. Very exciting.

  • Nose is pure lemon candy sweets. The palate is big and dense with a creamy texture huge intensity of flavour. Great acidity keeping it very fresh. Very very long with layers of citrus, baked lemon pastry and little classic lanolin note coming through on the finish.

  • lovely toasty nose with some grassiness
very dry, tastes very young still
    lemony
    some creaminess at the end
I'd keep for another 5 years or decant and not serve too cold to let that richness come out

  • I agree with Startinoz. Nuttiness on nose. Grapefruit, tropical fruit on palate. Very nice mouthfeel and texture. Quite enjoyable, although the non-reserve version is a much better value.

  • My Favourie Australian Wines; 8/27/2010-8/28/2014: A really nice, extremely approachable semillon. Round mouth feel. Good fruit concentration. No harsh added acid. No phenolics. Very little toasty development. I guess with its great balance it will cellar for up to 20 years more. Very impressive.
