Bordeaux 2003 Horizontal (Piccolino, Exchange Square, London): From magnum. Lemon oil and crème pat on the nose. Some candied grapefruit too, later some lime juice. Palate is well balanced with some chalky freshness, with air something subtly tropical emerges like candied papaya. Very good.

2003 Bordeaux @ Piccolino (Piccolino, Liverpool Street Stn, London): Mag. Pale straw. Creamy, chalky nose. Nice shape and weight. A sense of dosage on the finish. Very drinkable. Broadens with air. The dosage does stick out a bit as it warms, but fresh in the glass it’s a solid ****

4th bottle of this and it never disappoints. I've had better bottles though, and I'm wondering how this will age. Better with air for sure, but holds up fairly well. Good fruit, balanced, somewhat complex. I think I slightly preferred it two years ago when it was younger and fresher but maybe it's just in a middle phase now.

Another year around the sun-Birthday #42 (Daisies and Pops for Champagne-Chicago, IL): This was from Magnum and it was just killer from the get go. The nose is beautiful and balanced with tones of red and green apples, kumquats, quince, pears, mineral notes, white flowers, baked bread, warm dough, baking spices, and a good dose of biscuits. The Medium bodied feel is well balanced and deep with mouthwatering, high acidity. This shows more of the autolytic side while also showing lovely and rounded citrus notes. This is just fantastic right now and a real joy to drink.

Another very good bottle. However not as great as the first 2 that I had that really wowed me. This is an interesting wine that really shines at the perfect temp with perfect amount of air. I recommend around 1 hour open, and drinking around 60 deg F. This bottle had very good precision, but balanced by a little creaminess. Perfect amount of sweetness/dosage for my palate. I believe its 7 or 8g/l. 93-94 tonight. Crab cakes weren't quite as good of a pairing as I thought they would be. I have 6 more bottles and am interested to see where this goes. Almost seems like it might be in a slightly closed down phase, if that even happens with champagne.

"Brunch is the gamay of meals" (Chicago, IL): From magnum. Wow, this may be the best Chiquet I've had. I really like this -- it's got the fresh vibrancy I want but also good breadth on the palate from the fruit as well. Almost a little bready to boot, but never too rich that the acidity doesn't get to shine.

Solid showing, but I have had better bottles of this wine. Usually it gets better and better with air, and at cellar temp or higher. This one had a few sips that showed the potential but didn't reach the consistency or improvement with air as the other bottles did. Maybe not an ager. Had this in July and Nov of 2020 and was wowed both times.

Excellent Champagne from an excellent vintage and excellent producer. Just starting a very long life, I think. Don't serve it too cold. Great juxtaposition of crispness and subtle richness. Very, very long and integrated on the finish.

Similar to previous bottle, golden color, nice bubbles, touch of vanilla and oak, lots of pure complex flavors, drank with my pizza with prosciutto, would drink again if I can find it. Disgorged November 2019.

What an amazing champagne. Again. Every time I am wowed and this showed better than the 08 Gaston Special Club next to it. Very precise, but still creamy and rich with a touch of sweetness. Very happy to have 9 more bottles. I will probably track one every 6-12 months. These are a Nov 2019 Disgorgement.
Very young and undeveloped, and rather stern. This needs a good bit of time to eat its sulfur as well. The notes that it brings are good ones - honeyed apple and pear with a hint of cinnamon - it just doesn't deliver the pleasuredome yet. That said, this bottle developed nicely over a few days, with the flavors turning up a bit in volume each day. So while I find limited pleasure in it today, it should be quite nice in a few years.

From Mag. I've been impressed with this producer in the past. Unusual for a BdB to come from Ay, and in fact, it has enough cranberry/red fuji apple notes to suggest some pinot noir. Blind, I would have missed it for sure. Still, the wine had a lovely profile but the mousse was a bit coarse. Buy and hold for 5 years.

From magnum. The nose shows great, crisp, sweet fruit with some toast and brioche. I love this style. Peach, apple, honeysuckle with a bit of spice/ginger. Very lively. Tight bead, great precision, fruit and florals. Shows some minerals at the end. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5+/6, Finish - 5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17+/20 (with 17.5/20 potential.)

Double-blind tasting of Domaine Champagnes: Nice juicy exotic fruits, friendly and open from the start. Meaty nuance, but overall on the lighter aperitif side of the spectrum. Long finish, but overall lacks concentration and/or stuffing. May be the time will help if you value character over unobtrusiveness.
