A bottle purchased after it was opened in error at a tasting. It was kept sealed in the fridge for 7 days. Toasty nose. Very rich, buttery, toasty, oaky palate with some restrained lime citrus fruit and white plums. The 'soapy' fatty acid flavours detected earlier were gone within a minute or two. An excellent foil to cold poached salmon with Hollandaise sauce. Attractive, rich, complex wine.

Very rich, oaky palate with some citrus fruit but difficult to separate components of the complex palate. Butter and caramel with an attractive 'Italian hard cheese' character on the nose and palate. Some 'soapy' fatty acid flavours from the oak were detectable but these receded as it opened in the glass. Some flinty characteristics later. Needs food. 36h after opening - softer but still complex and very attractive. No hurry...... La Spinetta tasting with Rory Benham (Wine Treasury) at Grand Union Wine Society.

Empty Nesters for the first time - Open some bottles (Tom & Janet's): Light gold/green in color. The nose is mineral driven. No fruit. On the palate, it matches the nose. Its refreshing. No fruit left. No complexity. That said, nothing off either. Decent acidity. Worked with food. Still, these need to be drunk much sooner IMO.

United Cellars Italian Tasting (Pyrmont): Peach, stone fruit with medium plus intensity aromas. On the palate, spicy tang and slight bitterness over stone fruit - good nose, bad mouth…for me.

Non-blind. Had immediately at Restaurant Ernesto in Kalmar (Sweden). Light yellow. Nose is small, fruity. Wine grows over the evening (needs decant!) On the palate it is a well balanced elegant wine with floral notions rather than earthy or dark. As the evening stretches forward, the wine closes the mid-palate-gap and enters (almost) an agreeable state of elegant balance, power and complexity. Still very young. Maybe the V. grape should be allowed in to more acreage for wine-making. This grape is definitely potent, but the volume in THIS wine is not loud enough to make a difference in the strong current of >medium< wines. The restaurant served a rather dehydrated (desert style, thready, chewy, sinewy) fillet of pork but the other courses of the menu were quite over par. The restaurant's wine-list is unexpectedly GREAT . . . as are the prices. (Any restaurant that lists Vigna La Rosa is automatically a favorite of mine, even if its at the unbuyable level of US$210.) Clean austere sweeter on the palate than the nose but very lean and a bit sharp. you notice the alcohol. Slight petroleum.

Contratto and La Spinetta tasting with Giorgio Rivetti (Esquin (Seattle, WA)): Big nose, pretty and fragrant. Melon and lots of white peach. Rich, round body--very soft and elegant, with good acidity. But, I found it a bit too light on the mid-palate, and it didn't stand up to the nose.

Big. Some reduction on the nose floral and grass. Viscous and round. Good acid. Long finish. A bit rough around the edges.
