PNP at Traube Tonbach Blackberry with a hint of mustard and ramp and cranberry . We decided that it’s at the latter part of its window as the fruit was a little muted in hour 2.

Sixteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL): Alongside the 1996. This '98 was much more fruit-driven, less spiced or structured, but still holding on nicely. Finish was getting slightly tired. Some others thought it getting a bit muddy, but I thought it correct for the vintage, just probably time to enjoy by 2025 or so.

Candy fruit, menthol, stems, wild berries, tangerine peel and purple fruit on the nose. Palate was fine and balanced with beautiful structure and transperency. I really like this wine tonight. 93+

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 2/19/2016-2/20/2016 (Tru Restaurant - Chicago IL): Served single blind alongside the 1996 vintage. Enchanting spice driven aromatic start with black berry and cherry. Open and forward, at first it's easy to think this is straightforward and just good, but it kept evolving and improving with more time in glass. I screwed up the blind order at first, but eventually we figured out which was which. Most slightly preferred the 1996, but others were surprised how close the two were in terms of quality.

Restaurant Fred (Rotterdam, Netherlands): Wonderfully dense and layered dark fruit and earth aromas. On the palate supple, sweet purple fruit. Different what one usually finds in Dugat’s wines !? This Charmes is approachable and charming.

Opened my last bottle, still very much like the same wine. Dark red fruit, quite meaty, still lots of weight and finesse, an excellent Charmes that is drinking well.

Holiday dinner with Washington DC Winos (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): I was rather certain that there was something wrong with the wine, as it tasted hard and monolithic to me. Yet Ken Brown said that the next day - as still much wine was left in bottle - it was tasting better. Perhaps it just needed time. In any case, note reserved.

MNF Dinner at Tommy's (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind. Very pretty nose with black fruits, purple flowers, dust and hints of spice. Lots of structure on the palate that almost overpowers the intense black fruit. Pleasant acidity but this is a bit of a bruiser and seems to lack elegance at this stage. Needs 3-5 years. Excellent. 90+

Charmes-Chambertin Dinner (Boka - Chicago IL): Open 3 hours before serving. Served single blind in flight of Dugat, Dugat-Py 1998/2000 Charmes-Chambertin. Black fruit with subtle spice aromas. Same blackberry and black cherry on palate with more intense and meaty spice. Incredibly fresh and elegant start-to-finish. Classic and beautiful today with a long life going forward. A very thoughtful wine.

Some Burgundy with Dinner (Boka - Chicago IL): Open ~ 2 hours before serving. Great fresh and powerful red and black fruit combination with sensational spice that doesn't show any pronounced new oak influence. Dense, meaty and powerful from start-to-finish, but with the structural elements also in good harmony. Second time I have had this wine this year. It is in a great place now and I'd expect it to be great for at least 5+ years, probably 10 years.
Champagne, Burgundy, and old Huët at the North End Grill (North End Grill, NYC): Love the fragrance here, there's certainly a touch of brett evident with funky leathery and meaty notes accenting fresh red fruits, earth and higher toned floral and spicy notes. The aromatics may be rustic, but on the palate it's incredibly polished and silken textured, so elegant with a delicate touch to the flavours, surprisingly gentle tannins and impressive length.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. I don't recall having this wine in a long time, and it was sensational. Huge spice to start with lots of black and red cherry cherry on both nose and palate. Very dense and meaty, but with an elegant, well textured middle and finish. Once it was identified as from Gevrey, I thought it most likely from Claude Dugat...but until then I thought it from Vosne!

Medium red in color, no signs of bricking, after an hour of air, dark cherry nose with damp earth and dried beef. Pretty robust and ripe palate, still loads of fruit and beef jerky, sour plum at the end with minerals. Drinking well now and will hold, very good Charmes.

Labor Day Wines (Glencoe, IL): Popped and poured. The aromatics were dominated by dark red cherry and berry and damp earth. Some meaty spice too. The same dark fruit, earth, and spice on the palate as well. Medium body and finish. Tannins were pretty well integrated. Showing very well and I would probably elect to drink these over the next year or two.

Two Burgundy lovers and their weekend in Napa Valley (SF/NAPA): Very nice wine, sweet dark berry fruit mixed with gamey meat (as much as burgundy can be gamey) and mossy forest floor. Tannins are resolved now and the acid is clear and precise leading to a nice cool texture that runs through the palate.

A beautiful bottle of Charmes from a great winemaker. This is such a treat! Razor sharp fingertip work lays beyond the content of this bottle of juice. Deep and dark, with layers on booth taste and nose. Earth and smoked game, under veggies, wet forest floor with cherries and dark fruit too. Only downside was that I drunk this outside, and I believe that this reduces some of the experience when it comes to great Burgundies. Still, lovely, absolutely magnificent!

Aromatically - very inviting cinnamon, red cherry, earthy, and precise aromas. On the palate this wine has plenty of life left and should age effortlessly another 10 years to reach its peak. It has fine grain tannin medium density and is relatively front end heavy on the palate being very tight. great flavors and shows the normal identity of a dugat wine.

Lieu-dits-Cru Dugat vs. Dugat-Py Dinner (Knightsbridge): Medium full red color. Lovely big smokey cedar red fruit - incredible complexity. One of the best noses of the night. Electric sweet red fruit on the palate - lively and rich. 93-94pts.

At a sensational place today, I don't think this will improve but should be great for another decade.
