2012 A to Z Pinot Noir (Oregon) Although it’s never wrong to open a Pinot Noir at the 7 year mark, waiting an extra year can be particularly rewarding when dealing with a once-in-a-decade Oregon vintage. The seductive pale garnet hue was absolutely radiant in my glass. Aromas of pomegranate and mushroom announced the full fruit and umami to follow. Raspberry and cranberry notes were elegantly enlivened with acid freshness and well integrated oak. The flavours built slowly, expansively, almost overwhelming in scope and duration. Just when I thought this boondoggle of taste would never end, it softened and dissipated into the void leaving my quivering tongue ready for a nap while still craving just one more slurp...and a shower.

375ml, $3.99 at Grocery Outlet. P&p. Straightforward characteristically Oregonian red fruit and light earth, with spice and hints of flowers developing with a little air in the bottle. Well balanced and tasty, good acidity and freshness, highly drinkable, not huge on depth or complexity especially on the palate, but an excellent value at the Groc Out price; will pick up a few more of these.

PnP after a slight chill in the fridge. Bright clear crimson with clear rim. Cherry cranbery on the nose with a touch of earth and cola. Light with feint slightly crunchy tannins. Bright red fruits touch of earth. Fresh cranberry finish.

It hits most of the notes I expect from an OR Pinot Noir, but just lacking that certain OOMPH that I frequently get from an actual Willamette PN, even in the $15-25 range. Curious what the provenance of this juice is, that they don't label it as Willamette.

I have been trying a few of the 2012 Oregon Pinot Noirs following the recent Wine Spectator review and pending the Wine Advocate issue in February. This wine is at a good price and widely available. However, I found it a bit closed in the first day, slightly darker color than I expected (medium ruby), moderate mouthfeel with initial, slight bitterness as noted by one of the reviewers, black cherries, spice, and earthiness. Moderate length. The bitterness went away after about 30 minutes, but the wine never completely opened up. Will try the left over bottle today. All told, this is a good wine at a decent price, but nothing for which to search.
Much better the second night. While the nose is still restrained, the initial flavors of black cherries, spice, and earth are much more pronounced, as is the mid-range and an interesting finish. I would raise the rating to an 88 or 89 based on the second night's tasting.
Jury is still out on this one. On pop and pour at cellar temp, it was terrible. Bitter taste, couldn't drink. Poured out my first glass and opened something else. However, tried it again later after it had warmed and breathed. Much better, the bitter taste had mostly subsided and was replaced with good pinot fruit. I'll wait a day out so, see if it really just needs some time.

Very cherry cola nose - dark cherries and spice. No discernible funk or real Oregon terroir on the nose. The palate is balanced and beautifully structured for the price point, though. It has acid and tannin with an easy drinking quality to it. It's a crowd pleaser in that sense. That said, there are better wines at this price if you look hard enough.

Classic Oregon Pinot nose, with aromas of cranberry, cola, and a touch of barnyard. Lean on the palate, with primary flavors of tart cherry and forest floor. Light tannins on the finish offset a gamy note.

Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Light to medium expressiveness, cranberry and pomegranate with earthy undertones. Palate: Medium bodied, tart cherry and cranberry attack, medium acid, thins noticeably thru the mid-palate, leaving tart red fruit dominated back-end and medium length finish.

I think 87 is about right for this wine. It is nothing exceptional, but is well made and a good value for the money. Quite a nice light pinot noir. Hard to go wrong with this one if you are looking for a decent affordable lightish red. A good everyday wine.

Color: Ruby almost looks like Cru Bojo Smell: Faint and subtle floral and red fruits with a hint of ETOH at the tail end that slightly burns the nose Taste: Tart red fruits are framed by the light-medium body and lively acidity. Overall: Very Good. Light-medium body, high acidity, vibrant fruit, med- tannin, and moderate length finish. A good wine, that may even improve with time in the bottle for 6-12 months.

This is a good vintage for A to Z with good body but not over-extracted (or 20% Syrah) like so many California Pinots. Nicely complex with a flavorful finish.

Shared with friends over dinner as a starter wine. This is an excellent crowd pleaser for the price. As with most Oregon Pinot Noir, this wine tends to really open up with time and food. Very reliable bottle of wine for under $20. Darker red fruit than in previous vintages that I've had, more weight in the mid-palate, a little more tannin (representative of the 2012 vintage?) and very well balanced, which is how I like my Pinot Noir.

Not as enjoyable straight out of the bottle as the other 2012 OR PNs I've been trying. Sour cherry / red berry initially, but seemed to open a bit on second glass. Not as complex or deep as hoped for. Will see how it develops / lasts over a couple of days.

I can see why Wine Enthusiast likes this as a best buy. A great value pinot at $18. Pronounced cranberry with some hints of raspberry on the front end, finishing with notes of gingerbread spice and red licorice. Short but clean finish. A lot more drinkable than many of the OR pinot noirs we've tried in this price range.
