This village wine from this producer was one that early on got me into Burgundy as it is affordable and good quality and has depth. Sadly this vintage from Chevillion is disappointing. I suspect it needed to be drunk earlier, or is simply not a good wine from a challenging vintage. Notes: pale ruby with garnet tinge. Light nose of red and ripe fruit. Strawberry. Some vegetative notes of green pepper and dry herbs. Secondary wet leaves. Is Med- body alc and is dry. Medium tannic and acidity. Not that intense and has an average finish. Overall is a little flat and simple. I don’t think there’s much to be gained from waiting any longer with this wine.

The wine is in a sweet spot now in 2022. Earth, forest floor on the nose with a little red cheery fruit in the background. Palate is smooth and again a mix of primary and tertiary aromas. Tannins are not noticable and this drinks very well.

nose - damp earth/forest floor, light red fruit aroma mouth - nicely balanced, lighter bodied with good red fruit sappiness and persistence. round but very present tannins frame the wine nicely and the palate is left with a little acidic thrill to keep it exciting. Nicely done and very elegant. I'm proud of myself for holding this wine long enough to let it integrate. will still drink well for many more years IMO.

As a southern rhone lover I don’t have the expertise or vocabulary to do this justice, but here goes: surprisingly savory, almost saline, and a nice citric bite. I did not expect a Burgundy to have such a mineral profile but maybe that shows my naïveté! Limestone and clay, makes sense now. Maybe not so different from rhone terroirs after all. Gigondas minus the spice, and swapping in some pinot to make things a bit lighter. Dark fruit but by no means fruit forward.

Clear improvement from my previous btl, but could still use time. Pop and pour, notes from 1 hr open. On the nose:.sour strawberry and stems, then herbs. On the palate: fantastic acidity, blackberry, herbs, good density, soft tannin on the finish. Give this time.

Ne'er a Chevillon at less than 20! So true here. I thought the 2011 might be more open for business, but the massive wall of intense dark fruit just showed a glimmer of its future self. Dark cherry in the red/black forefront, some nice oak hints and plenty of sous bois. But even after an hour's decant and time in the glass, just showing nothing but lots of promise.
I was a bit dismissive of 2 prior bottles, but I think this has now hit its prime and is quite good. It is less austere and now the red raspberry fruit is coming through with sinewy tannins and good structure. A restrained Nuits, but in a good way. 13% abv. Drink now - 2026. -

Some other notes suggested bricking, but this btl showed pure ruby to translucent purple. On the nose, no real nuits funk, but pure red raspberry and strawberry, a touch of stems and a hint of oak, all well integrated. Rather light in style, but still sweet red fruit and a hint of herbs. Loads of spice, but the tannin is still pretty intense. Softened with about 2 hrs open, but seems like it needs a while...

Orange-red, quite light with a brownish rim. On the nose oak, cherry, tar, something green and charcuteries. On the palate fine tannins, high acidity, long aftertaste.
After hours in the glass some notes of paint and dried fruit as well.
A very delicate wine, I wonder if it is at its peak...very little fruit left?

Soft red fruit and oak. Not a lot of complexity but a nice village wine that is drinking well now. 13% abv (certainly not 14.5% as another note states).

Despite previous reviews I found this wine to be soft, on its mature plateau with perhaps a bit to go yet but unlikely to get any better. Not overly complex but hey it’s a village wine, albeit from one of my favourite Burgundy producers. I decanted for 30 minutes only, I would advise against longer.

Really green & somewhat bitter. Not in an herbaceous way, but just unripe. Drank over the course of 4 hours the first night, then sealed it back up and gave it another couple hours the next night. Still pretty unyielding. There were hints of some more savoriness, but the green kept coming back - so I'm wondering if it was just my palate adjusting. I didn't have any food w/ this - though I could see this being a good palate scrub for some dishes. Anyway - not much fun by itself. Maybe in 10 years it will come around - but it doesn't seem like there is enough there to make it worth the wait.

A small Nuits Saint Georges tasting (Tords house): Nose with leather and hints of tangy fruit and cured meat. Slick feel on the palate. Green and bitter. Very small hints of pinot fruit and earth. No structure. Slack and short.

Elevated intensity nose, leading with reductive red cherry (ripe), slightly confected red cherry (possible whole cluster), slight reduction (burnt rubber), slight oak (burnt toast and sandalwood), and slight ripe peach (lower-ripeness fruit). Slight turned earth - but not much. Slight anise and floral - orange oil.
Dry, medium body, high alcohol - 14.5%, medium acid, medium minus tannins, significant bitterness on the finish. Austere on the palate. Low ripeness. Balanced, but mostly because of the bitterness.
CA Pinot - a hot, thin mess of a sonoma pinot - but it's too austere and bitter. Also acid is a bit low. GSM from Southern Rhone - it's pretty light in color, and the nose is reductive, not oxidative or neutral. Also there's some oak which isn't classic.
Final: Carneros Pinot, 2014, low-end quality (thin and acid deficient). Maybe Napa? Though the nose is ripe, it's hot but not plush/ripe on the palate.
Actually: 2011 Burgundy, allegedly 13% (must be higher!). Bizarre. 2011 was difficult and lean in burgundy.
Great aromatics but the palate is atypical - hot and bitter.

Immediately upon opening, nose & palate were rather tight. With just a bit of air, however, everything opened up quite a bit. The nose stole the show with powerful, ripe fruit and quite a bit of earth. The earthiness, with time, came do dominate actually. The palate, although a bit more reserved than the nose, showed some ripe fruit and quite a bit of strong earth, with a slightly tart fruit finish. This is really quite an impressive cuvée.

A very nice little Burg. Notes of cranberry, especially on the nose. Earthy on the palate with more autumnal red fruit, soil, and mushroom. Quite feminine in character. One would ideally like a little more structure and stuffing here, but overall a very pretty little wine.

Second and last bottle in my cellar. Very much like it was a year ago, in my last note on CT. A bit more maturity showing. Slightly rustic, still very elegant. Good length and transparency, with excellent structure. This will easily develop further, and is too young to show it all at this point, but a flat out gorgeous village. 92 solid points, as should be from this producer.

Couldn't resist last bottle, particularly after 1er NSG 1er LSG Chevillon-Chezeaux. This " Village" in my humble opinion is on the night a much more balanced and approachable wine due to lack of " greenish flavours ". A great village from a great vigneron.

Closed up tight but underneath the structured lace is a sense of something much more complex (and no, I am not trying to mislead you). Swirling helps.
Apparently south of the town is considered less interesting, but from the town north you get the perfect soil.
Dark and fleshy wine here is the idea, and I would agree with that. The palate is more open and expressive than the nose. Lots going on. For dark and fleshy there is still plenty of elegance and purity. A great house and this shows it.

From this wine I felt a strong, bitter green quality, especially on the palate, but detectable on the nose as well. I don't get green on pinot noir very often, so I'm not sure of whether it is simply under ripeness but the pyrazine quality on this wine is not cab-like bell pepper. It is more akin, to me, to the green peppercorn quality you get on carmenere, which can be quite off-putting to me. This is jumping regions, but it doesn't strike me as the same green I have gotten in underripe California pinots (a la Wind Gap) from time to time.
This is not undrinkable to me, but the green definitely distracts and mildly detracts from the experience; at this point, does not taste like the same taint as in 2004 burgundies. There is oak on this wine that masks the green qualities too, so it's a bit of a weird-tasting wine at this point. Interestingly, glasses of this left out for 24 hours showed a dissipation of the strident peppercorn quality so perhaps there is hope this wine will outgrow its herbal qualities?
