Perfectly ready to drink. After a flawed bottle this one was terrific considering the vintage. Typical pialade, very light red, very aromatic but this time with a persistent whiff of brett that did not put us off.

Color: very light red Nose: Burgundian elegance, strawberries, Rayas/Pignan DNA, nose much better than the 01 Fonsalette drunk after it Palate: light bodied, light cherries, simple but nice, put on weight in the glass, delicious week day wine 89

Color: pale red Nose: lovely floral nose with some game but fades in the glass after 2 hours to leave a very leafy smell Palate: medium bodied, a lovely cdr for its price range, definately has the Rayas DNA , obviously not as complex as a Rayas or Pignan but nevertheless interesting enough to warrant the next sip Rating: 89

Color: very pale red Nose: pretty, floral, rose water, lovely Palate: first time trying a pialade and I must say I was very impressed, delicious, rayas like but without the depth & length but hey it's a fraction of the price of a rayas or even a pignan, save the rayas for special occasion and drink the pialade for weekdays!

Steve's 60th (Roswell, GA): Very pale dull crimson with orange hues; sexy orange and cherry, sour cherry, tart almost raspberry, silky; tart, still very Burgundian but the slight bitter note is Grenache, Rayas-like, polished and elegant; wow this is really great stuff if you can find it; a few others and I called this as Pignan; 91+.

A Casual Thursday in Toronto (Paese Restaurant, Toronto, ON): Another great bottles of this. I've always wavered between 92 and 93 points, but on this day I have it pegged at 93. Pours extremely light with a nose loaded with cigar ash, grapefruit, light raspberries, loads of spice, incense and smoke. Palate is extremely light, with elevated tart acid, and a strong note of grapefruit and ash. Finish is a bit short and fizzles out a bit early.

Nose jumps out of the glass...cranberry, nutmeg, minerals, stemmy notes, incense, orange rind, iodine, pommegranite Palate shows cherry, minerals, clove, nutmeg, iodine, pomegranate, incense, crushed black pepper, and smoke. Finish is where you get the sense that this is declassified fruit....this is medium but does not have the power or complexity on the finish.

It pours a very orange-brick red that is beautiful in the glass. It is totally transparent with a ruby heart. Light legs and a medium-light viscosity.
When I opened the bottle dark cherries rushed into the room. Lots of currant and cranberry notes in the nose as well as the taste. It tastes rustic and fruity and as it breathes it opens up into Dark cherry and tobacco, iodine is very prevalent as well. It has medium tannins and a light mouthfeel that adds to the fruit flavor. Enjoyable wine.

Every region seems to have an arch-traditionalist. In Chateauneuf-du-Pape this is Rayas. This wine is clearly dominated by grenache though to me it also seems to have a little syrah and mouvedre. Very light in color with hints of orange in the rim. Nose is complex and restrained with fruit solidly in the red spectrum. Aromas of pomegranate, strawberry, cranberry, stems, smoke, spice, leather, ash and incense waft from the glass. Palate is light, and tart, with a finish that is carried on the red fruit and stemmy notes. Finish isn't huge but the light ashy, stemmy notes carry on surprisingly long.

Translucent in colour Pure incense, cherry, nutmeg, cranberry, pomegranate, iodine, minerals and a great stemmy profile…..love the nose…96pt nose. Palate shows pure cherry, incense, smoke, pomegranate, iodine, minerals, stems and spice. So pure..so focused. Finish is where you realize that this is not a Rayas….that this is declassified fruit…as it is medium and shows much less complexity than the palate or nose. But….this is still amazing. love this style.

Transparent ruby red in the glass. On first glance, you'd think this lacks concentration, but the nose explodes from the glass, with notes of red fruit; pomegranate, cranberry, raspberry; iodine, incense, herbs, florals, leather, orange rind, pepper, and tea leaves. On the palate, quite rich showing impressive concentration with medium acidity, and low tannin. Finish is quite long, with notes of red fruit, grapefruit, mineral, smoke and pepper. It is scary what this producer can do with "off" vintage fruit, and what is left on the sorting tables after the fruit for Rayas and Pignan have been selected. Absolutely love this style of Grenache, and it can only come from one producer. For those of us who can't afford to drink Rayas as often as we'd like, this is a great substitute.

Translucent in colour…so light The nose is so pretty…so powerful…..incense, pomegranate, raspberry, iodine, minerals, so stemmy…..wow. Definitely from the house of Rayas. Palate is juicy with nutmeg, cherry, black pepper, incense, iodine, raspberry, pomegranate, and cranberry. It is so powerful, pure, true to the place where it is produced. Gorgeous evidence of stem inclusion here. Why don't more Southern Rhone producers do this????? Finish is long, complex, balanced and pure. Such a pretty wine.

Popped and poured, ruby red in the glass. An incredibly complex nose of red fruits; strawberry, pomegranate, raspberries; grapefruit, fresh picked herbs, lavender, pepper, leather, and smoke. On the palate, quite svelte, with reasonable concentration of falvour, seemingly contradicting the appearance. The fruit has a sweetness to it, but it is matched by some lively acidity. Finishes moderate. My style of Grenache. A shame that more producers do not try to emulate this style. 13.5% alcohol.

Totally in the Rayas style. Nose is loaded with red fruit, black and white pepper, grilled meat, leather, grilled bread, incense, smoke, grapefruit, and fireplace ash. Obvious signs of whole cluster fermentation add rather than detract. Palate enters a with a sweet impression and turns light, silky, and a bit sour like grapefuit juice. Finish fades out a bit and isn't super long. Light at 13.5% and nearly transparent in appearance. I wish more in the Rhone were doing this style.
