Cloudy appearance. Still drinking well. For this bottle, it’s at last stage. Will not improve anymore. Drink up. Did not decant. Notes of charr wood, toast, red fruits and black fruits. Medium acidity and medium- tannin.

The cork was sitting 2mm below the level of the bottle and extracted easily with a Durand. High quality dense cork with overall wine penetration of 3-4mm except some runs to ¾ of the length. There was plenty of fine-grained sediment. Decanted 30 minutes before serving but left the lid on the decanter. Colour was good and the nose was promising. Had low expectations due to the poor reputation of the vintage and the cellar-tracker suggested drinking window expiring in 2004. However, this was the type of wine that could make anyone fall in love (again) with St.Julien. Didn’t make detailed notes but well-balanced black fruit, cedar with a med+ finish. The wine is drinking wonderfully and could last longer. Shame I only had the one.

Enjoyed this again. Decanted for sediment and poured immediately. Lively nose of tobacco and bitter chocolate. Fully resolved. Good length. Held on for the 2 hour window. Nice

Attractive aged bouquet of wet tobacco leaves with minty notes. Expressive and enjoyable. Palate still holds some fruit and finishes well. Mushrooms and good length. Enjoyable

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Mature earthy aromas more prominent over remaining black fruit with spice hints. More mushroom than anything else on palate, starts well, ends short. Good success for the vintage.

Purchased from a cellar where it was bought on release and kept at 50 degrees ever since. Initially I planned to pop and pour it, but when I poured a taste, it was clear it needed to time in a decanted. After 30-45 minutes it started to open up with aromatics of red currant and cranberry with leather, cedar and some tobacco leaf. Nice fruit on the palate as well. Medium bodied with a moderate finish. Well balanced with nice acidity. There was still a little bit of grip on the finish. White I can't see this getting better, these particular bottles do have quite a bit of time left on them.

Still on the young side, I would say five more years for optimum, and perhaps then some. Cordier bottle funk, but not excessive. Classic Gruaud elements of meat, leather. Tannins still fairly strong but this is in good balance. Opened at the end of the evening and it was all gone before I had a chance to really reflect. But it was a nice bottle.

Still a very muscular wine. The tannins were quite firm. I am surprised given the vintage that it drank quite well. It had nice balance of fruit with the underlying earthiness.

Charming bouquet with some fruit, a bit thin in the midtaste; overall showing nicely in a modest way.

Very harmonious wine with good acidity, tannin and also a lot of refinement. At Gruaud they really know how to make wine in off vintages.
