This Amon-Ra varies by the bottle. Every time a different chap. This time with a massive body, very well integrated tannin. A bit sweet ending. Lots of mocha. Very long finish of 30+ seconds. Great stuff again.

A tour de force this has been consistently excellent on every occasion I have tasted this vintage. There is immense structure big and bold but in perfect harmony despite the 15abv there is zero excessive heat . So seductive and juicy with dense black fruits the aromas are a total knockout. There is plenty acidity which will aid this wines development for years to come . A brilliant wine.

Very much of the Barrosa, very dark inky purple, powerful nose of spice and blackberries, very full mouthful and if you try you can find almost any fruit in there a huge melange of tasted plus cedar spicies and cinnamon, could all be to much but this has absorbed itself and is a full on winner from the Barrosa, great bottle and a very good drink as Michael Broadbent used to say.

This is 100% liquid beef jerky. I have no idea how this is going to evolve , but today, after 2 hours of decant time, this wine is 100% like drinking peppered beef jerky. 5 years left of life , but I am not sure how it is going to evolve. A very weird wine.

Appearance: inky black core with deep purple hues. Less are slow and abundant Nose: wow, what a tingling sensation through my olfactory. Eats of dark blackberries, liquorice, dark plum vanillin cedar and spice. It's very perfume like Palate: compared to when I last drank this bottle in 2020, the flavours have become more expansive, richer in taste and flavours are more harmonious/settled. Palate shoes for purity, concentration of dark blackberries, plums, liquorice, dark chocolate, earth and subtle spices. Tannins are so velvety / smooth. Very long, decadent finish

A wine for that is a bit of a guilty pleasure and we feel is really well into the 91-92 range. With decent age like now the exuberance of youth is gone and albeit still big it is also well mannered and polished. We wonder though if this is now at peak and with more time it will start to pay the price for all that juicy youth. 91-92 and maybe better drink some sooner than later.

Maybe not as black as the last bottle from June this year and still ruby to pink in thin layers. From the start without airing this bottle showed smoky earthy tar notes, on the palate in addition bramble and black cherries that add to the nose some time later. Well integrated alcohol and tannin and enough acidity to be animating and refreshing. Nice minerality in the finish with hints of green apple peel. With some more time and air from the opened bottle it adds more power and intensity without getting heavy or loosing complexity. This bottle is extraordinary. 5/14/19/10, -2030+ if cellared under perfect conditions since release. 97+ from Perotti-Brown for the WA.

Drunk for dinner with lamb shanks. 15%. Deep opaque ruby. Black fruits and some earthiness with hints of pepper and spice. Good intensity and length overall. A little sweetness from the alcohol was detectable which gave it a New World flavour. Tannins were soft and smooth. Drinking very well.

Monolithic yet excellant balance. The 15% abv doesn’t show, there’s no heat. Tannins are soft. Slight funk and superb fruit. Very well made. I have another bottle which I won’t wait longer than a few years to drink.

Incredible wine. Delicious without being sweet. Musky funk and earthy but as more aired out became smoother, showing a taste of chocolate, velvety black cherry layers. Dark purple, inky color. Not necessarily fruit forward, but purity of fruit was obvious and the tannins were smooth and balanced but with long life ahead. Mid-palate of chocolate and spices, arriving in a silky way that made this a special wine for us. Paired with brea cheese, salami, and crackers, and preferred over the 2010 Far Niente we had earlier with dinner. w-Heekyung and mom at mom's.

Still nearly black to ruby and pink in thin layers. Blackberries, spices, dark chocolate, licorice, tar, most developing consecutively. On the palate an aussi high intensity fruit bomb, but not overdone. Great balance due to smooth tannins and refreshing acidity. Quite long fruity finish. 5/13/18/10. 97+ from Perotti-Brown for the WA. -2030+ in a cool cellar since release.

Decanted about 30 minutes. Layered nose of ripe blackberries, dark plums, rosemary and Indian spices. Loads of fruit on the palate but not jammy. Medium tannins. I enjoyed this more than the last bottle.

One off from a large private party purchase (hard to price single bottles, but about $60) about 4.5 years ago. On the nose and palate, powerful musty funk (which blew off in about 90 minutes-2 hours), spiced oak, vanilla, chocolate covered cherries, blackberry liquer, cassis, plums, wet earth, Xmas fruitcake, forest floor spice, anise, and just a hint--to the extent anything in this wine is just a hint--of black pepper. Dark maroon purple, medium to full bodied, thick legs. Well-integrated, moderate acidity and light-ish tannins, no heat despite the 15+% abv. Very complex, persistent and intense. Like the '01 Dead Arm (but not so much the '02 Dead Arm or the '09 Astralis, both of which were more structured), this is very much my idea of a classic, high-end Aus shiraz, with powerful, luscious and sweet fruit, intense secondary notes and no sharp edges. With some savoriness and underlying structure, this stays clear of a monolithic fruit bomb and was a fairly good complement to a well-seasoned lasagna, even if it's not going to make anyone forget Tuscany or the Piemonte. Not quite as creamy texturally as the '01 DA. Dead on in its drinking window, this wine hit its peak after 90 minutes or so of air, when its power and balance were best aligned. But it lost a bit of steam on nights 2 & 3, so, while I think that this has several years of optimal drinking left, aeration should be carefully considered, particularly as time goes by. Delicious and fun to drink, this wine, at least for me, just had a bit more sweetness, vanilla and oak than I’d want in a really elegant, top tier wine, but at about a third the price of the Astralis, it doesn’t need to be to be more than worthwhile (and as proof, I just bought it’s ‘16 sib at Costco for $55), even if it won’t hit my every night drinking list. 93-94, and getting the benefit of the doubt by the skin of its teeth.

My last bottle and the top wine of the evening for 3 out of 5 tasters! Smells like walking through an old musty, dusty library! Overripe sour cherries mixed with mild chemical (enamel) notes and wood spices...quite complex. A charming supple, rond, rich wine with ripe fruit and vanilla flavours. Beautifully textured and balanced. Long finish. Would hold but why wait...so beautiful! 94+

One of the wines of renown from the Barossa. Big, but not overly extracted as some, instead more finesse and spice along with all that dark fruit. Still kicking and will most likely provide premier drinking for at least another 5 years.

My third bottle and I have to say I am not so impressed. I expect a much more fruit forward wine as I have experienced with other earlier vintages. I'll wait a few years before trying the next bottle, and I hope there will be a significant change.
Short decant of about an hour to go with ribeye steak and sauted shrimps with garlic. Lots of red fruits, blackberry, black plum dark cherry etc. Vanilla and fragrant oak with peppery spice. Tannins are there but sweet with long finish. A very nice Australian Shiraz.

Just gorgeous juice and as close to perfection for an Australian wine that I have ever tasted. Everything is in balance and you would imagine at 15 percent alcohol there would be some heat...... not a bit of it. I am disciplined but had to show some self control not to consume more than my customary half bottle. Its all pleasure a great bottle of wine !!! Drinking great now and perhaps for 5 years more would be my assessment.

At first jam - layer after layer of it. But there is more, with air. Leather and perhaps some crushed stones. Perhaps more time or more air would make it less cloying and more complex. Unfortunately this bottle doesn't dispel my bias for old world - a Rhone syrah would have given more pepper and spice. But this is very smooth. Great label too, by the way :-)

Glaezter top, vintage 2012 Old vines, low yield, open cask fermented with pigeage, 14months new oak, primary french, unfiltered
Primary aromas with blackcurrant dominating. On the secondary and tertiary notes prunes, vanilla, coffee and liquorice Medium-plus body but surprisingly light viscosity. Fruity attack, blackcurrant, dark cherry Mid palate with hints of orange zest and liquorice Finish with acidity and alcohol dominating. Ok length/complexity/balance, surprisingly mild tannins. A bit overpriced

Amazing showing for this wine. Decanted ~1-2hrs, showed opulent dark fruits, smoked meats, very new world syrah with a powerful and hedonistic nose. Palate matched, big & rich, huge velvety tannins, very good mouth feel to this wine. Good now but should improve with more age. Not a bad price on this bottle either, I wouldn't go hunt these down but probably wouldn't pass up a rebuy opportunity. 93-94+

World class wine. Just what I’m looking for with Shiraz. Beguiling nose that I can’t quite figure out, boatloads of fruit, balanced by herbal and smokey notes, long twisting finish with noticeable but measured use of oak.
It shut down after a half hour in the glass, especially the nose, but this highlighted the opulent texture and long finish.

perhaps the finest Shiraz I've tasted. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like raspberry and red currant. It tastes like forest floor and black pepper. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity.

Aromas of cassis roar from the glass. Sauve and polished with no hard edges outstanding length. An iconic Barossa shiraz that represents outstanding value compared with some of its peers. A model of consistency My only gripe is the 15 percent alcohol.
Wow what a wine. This was a classy shiraz. Smooth and concentrated. Even though high in alcohol it didn't really show. Classic Aussie shiraz on the nose but very elegant. Glad I have more!

Bravo !

Beautiful rich, royal purple colour - slightly hazy, and it sticks to the side of the glass. Nose is pure bramble, palate is so full-bodied - almost unctuous, but not quite. Fruit-driven, this is blackberry, black cherry, currant, damson plum & cinnamon. There's definitely Christmas baking spice in there - and that's what carries through on the finish for a good 15-20 seconds. Glorious.

It's crazy to me that this wine does not score higher on cellar tracker. It's literally the best vintage of the best wine I've ever had. Very long finish with gorgeous plum and currant flavors. What elevates it beyond other Barossa Shiraz fruit bombs is the cedar and crushed rock minerality--it's the "restraint and elegance" that Ben Glaetzer talks about. Plus it's just delicious. Some highly rated wines are very complicated but just not that tasty. I'll give it 100 until I find anything better.

Occasional tasting group (By TBa @ WN Top South America plus some extra's.): Concentrated wine in the bouquet with a lot of very youthful lactic impressions; cherry and dark berry fruits yoghurt. On the palate a lot of chocolate and sweet and ripe dark fruits, good acidity and round tannin. This is still a baby and hard to score. Give it at least 5 years of ageing; so not before 2021. My score is just a guess: 92+?

Lighter on its feet and less serious than I expected. A youthful, vibrant, fruitty wine. Displays a soft and decidedly sweet equilibtium that will definitely feel more refined with age. But not a complex wine, no multi faceted layering or hidden secrets waiting patiently to emerge. After a couple of hours I could sense the tannins starting to separate rather than integrate further.

A smooth, well balanced, rich oz wine. I am not a big fan of shiraz as i prefer strong tannins and edge, but admittedly this is as good as a shiraz gets! Good acidity yet smooth, while not too much fruit, all around.

Still very young but already drinking reasonably well. Spicy nose, at first seemed a bit alcoholic but after a while the alcohol subdued. Took about an hour to open fully, with good depth and concentration. Fully bodied but balanced with good acidity. Aftertaste was long and the tannins were very round and embracing. A tad expensive but a very good and well made wine.

On the palate an aussi high intensity fruit bomb, but not overdone. Great balance due to smooth tannins and refreshing acidity. Quite long fruity finish. 5/13/18/10. 97+ from Perotti-Brown for the WA. -2030+ in a cool cellar since release.

Quick double decanted for about 15 min and consume 4 hours later at the Funky Biscuit in Boca.
The wine is bold, strong and perfumed. A very classic Ausy Shiraz. We did not had an adequate food to pair it with.

Boire d'ici 2022. 94+

One of the wines of renown from the Barossa. Big, but not overly extracted as some, instead more finesse and spice along with all that dark fruit. Still kicking and will most likely provide premier drinking for at least another 5 years.

Glaezter top, vintage 2012
Old vines, low yield, open cask fermented with pigeage, 14months new oak, primary french, unfiltered
Primary aromas with blackcurrant dominating.
On the secondary and tertiary notes prunes, vanilla, coffee and liquorice
Medium-plus body but surprisingly light viscosity.
Fruity attack, blackcurrant, dark cherry
Mid palate with hints of orange zest and liquorice
Finish with acidity and alcohol dominating. Ok length/complexity/balance, surprisingly mild tannins.
A bit overpriced
