Eye: dark bordeaux-red, opaque except for the rim. Nose: expressive, black fruit, forest and little bit of alcohol (14.5%). Palate: alcohol, well-integrated tannins, dry. Overall: the wine has some good and indispensable components (alcohol, tannins, not sweet, well-balanced), but the palate misses complexity and taste.

Silky yet firm tannins, plenty of rich, ripe fruit, with a long, long finish that imparts a wonderful dose of the slate terraces these vines are grown on.

Torres Salmos Priorat 2011 – Impressive and modernly styled Priorat wine from the Catalan Torres estate, grown on terraced Llicorella slopes (slate soils) in the villages of Porrera and El Lloar (Province of Tarragona / Catalunya). An assemblage of 50 % Carinyena, 30 % Garnatxa and 20 % Syrah that was aged for 16 months in French and American barriques. Intense dark red in color with purplish hues and a lovely aromatic nose of black cherry and plum fruit, violets, notes of cocoa and hints of clove and thyme. The generous, full-bodied and well-balanced palate is marked by rich black forest fruit, cassis, a well-integrated oak signature and super silky tannins. Persistent finish with a slight touch of caramel. A good match for game and stew dishes. Optimal enjoyment: now until 2020.

A good introduction to prior at and a value if retail is $30. Very intense color. Medium bouquet. As others have commented ripe dark fruit. Hint of leather. Full body medium finish. Moderate soft tannins. Very nice to accompany the butifarra but more avid and harsher tannins would have been a better mix.

Very nice, and easily my favourite Torres wine by quite some margin. Intense red berries, good structural balance, and particularly hides its 14.5% alcohol very well. Also the oak is well controlled. Drank this well chilled.

Concentrated, deep purple red color. Quite aromatic, concentrated and polished nose with aromas of blackcurrant marmalade, brambly blackberry, some aromatic herbs and a little sweet oak. Quite full-bodied and moderately concentrated palate with pronounced rich fruit flavor and obvious new oak character. Flavors of sunny and plummy dark fruit, ripe dark berries, some sweet oak spice and a little dried herbs. Rather modest in acidity, moderate in tannins. Alcohol shows a little. The finish is medium-long and quite warm with sweet, mouth-coating flavors of blackcurrant jam, toasty oak, plum compote, some ripe dark berries and a little tannic spicy bitterness.
A good, but quite uncharacterful and polished modern Priorat. With its soft and sweet fruit, obvious oak influence and rather pronounced alcohol, the wine really doesn't the spot. I remain thoroughly unimpressed. This has very little to do with the best Priorat reds - this is a good red wine, but nothing I'd expect when buying a Priorat wine.

Dark purple. Expressive nose of sweet dark plum, sweet oak, dark chocolate, sweet spices and minerality. Medium to full-bodied with supple texture, rich fruit, balancing acidity and good length.

very spicy nose, t. coffee, dark and brooding, sometimes smells very modern and new oaky but sometimes a nice fragrance comes through quite a bit of grip, dense oaky finish, vanilla modern style, nicely made, I think it'll open up after a day open

Darkly colored. Sweet nose with new oak notes, violets and some lifted herbal notes. Quite young but balanced on the palate with ripe tannins. With food it was a little too sweet for my taste. A wine to drink on its own? Maybe after dinner?

Very extracted, very oaky and high in alcohol and low in character - Priorat can and does much better than this.
