From 75cl. Not a lot has changed this since my TN of 24.07.2006. Perhaps a bit leaner, perhaps more acid zing, certainly a heck of a lot of pent-up lemon energy. Today we thought this more like a dream Alsace crémant than a top-level Cava. Completely untypical Champagne, of course, which if you dislike the Grandes Marques NV sugarwaters as much as I do is a Very Good Thing. 89P

From 75cl, smelly layered cork. Almost exactly as I noted in my TN three years ago(!) this is an extraordinary Champagne with more than a leaning towards the finest ancient-vine Cava, possibly mixed with an exceptional Jura Savignin. Strong lemon, fresh sweat running down your face (perhaps while helping out with the harvest?), yeast and, indeed, Camembert rind. This is about as far away from Moet et Chandon NV as you can get, so I'm delighted to have it in my glass this evening... No hurry at all. 90P(+?)

Rich yeast on the nose, like pizza dough in progress. Soft and mellow palate, with a bit of white chocolate noted. Pretty lovely. Puckering and lean finish which doesn't show all that much.

2008 Champagnes: Light gold, with small bubbles. The blend includes Petit Meslier and Arbannes, as well as Chardonnay. A nose of lemons, pears, baker's yeast and stony minerals. Minerally in the mouth, quite driven and focused with lemon curd and some bready autolysis. Like a tart old fashioned lemonade on the palate. Leaner and firmer than most of the Champagnes here. Good, vibrant, racy acidity, finishing long and bone dry. Hold for at least two years but I'd imagine this Blanc des Blancs would cellar long term.

Buono molto buono.

Big lemon/lemon-oil, sappy, fruity, creamy, mineral-infused lime. Pungent pink, yellow, green citrus, quince, & tart-nectarine. Nicely creamy & leesy. Autolytic character takes back-seat to firm, very tight, lemony Chardonnay fruit. Big, spicy ginger, violet, lavender, & licorice add to complexity. Long, firm. Sappy, with med+ intensity. Dosage seems on low side of Brut. Beautiful, flowery quality to the fruit. Very young & tight. (92+)

Jura, Puligny Montrachet and Champagne; 9/8/2013-9/20/2013: One of the most extraordinary fine wines I have ever tasted. The scent is reminiscent of a superlative Chateau Chalon (but without any of the mustiness or mould sometimes present in Vins Jaune!) with hints of Camembert rind(!) and plenty of yeast. Also a smelly tropical fruit I remember eating but cannot remember the name of, and not-quite fresh armpit sweat. And that's before you even take a sip of this wild, wild, down-and-dirty wine. This would be an amazing challenge for a sommelier's food/wine-pairing exam. Every bit as startling as the finest wines we were surprised by in the Jura. 30% Arbanne(!), the rest Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Petit Meslier. M. Aubry suggests decanting this carefully 3 hours before serving and although I have always thought that decanting Champagne was a ridiculous idea, in this case he is probably right...

Not such a big nose at the moment, maybe needs time to open up still, but the palate is super vinous and salty. Wonderful and thrilling to drink.
