Surprising, with a solid acid backbone and fruit still hanging on. P&P, with a roast beef dinner. Still had enough zing to cut through the roast beef. However, has a lineal flat center, almost a synthetic undertone, which I somehow wonder if it got that from the synthetic cork they used? As with an earlier review, also noted some brett, which was a pleasant addition, making this almost (almost) Rioja-like. A great value when I purchased a case years ago, and glad a few bottles were hidden to try it again now. Interesting, but not meant to hold this long.

A little one dimensional and a bit hot with the alcohol, but it's mellowed with age and has a pleasing profile: oaky spice box on the nose; wild herbs, menthol, black fruit on the palette. One the best values I've ever found.

Light-bodied Rhone style blend. 85% Grenache, 15% Syrah. Parker has this at 94, and there are glimmers of excellence here. Plastic cork a disappointment.

I have sucked down a number of C de Capcanes wines over the years, including Cabrida and Costers del Gravet. Not sure how this one differs exactly. Grenache based, ripe, round, somewhat monolithic. There is nothing disagreeable here, although it is a bit boozy and too oaky for its breed, but there isn't a heck of a lot to make it memorable either. On the grill in the rain with pork tenderloin and a tomatillo sauce this works just fine. It is drying out and this is one to drink up.

Outstanding value. Reasonably balanced with good purity of fruit, including black currant and blackberries, with smoke, roasted game, wild herbs, and wild raspberries. This is a classic table wine that can actually pair with a lot of dishes. Was much better with food. Drink over the next few years. Technical score: 87. Enjoyment score: 92.

Lovely Grenache and Syrah blend, at a very reasonable price. Parker called it a baby Priorat and I can see what he means ... black fruit aromas, lots of density, velvety texture especially on the second night after being opened. And sturdy black fruit flavors that stood up well to my burger but maybe a little hot without food! Finish is only a few seconds but definitely a good value wine.

A very decent Spanish wine, one that sits well at the dinner table. Grenache sharpness has softened and now is better integrated, as in it's youth it dominated. Reminds me of a french rhone blend.

I start to think that it takes a couple of bottles to get used to this one. Now on the third bottle, I start to be convinced about this wine. Not overly complex to be a stand alone wine, this one is really good with food. Dominant and clear cherry tones, not dominated by wood notes. Really quite enjoyable. Still, definitively not an 94P. I would rate this 89P and the retail price around 11 EUR is in my view very slightly on the high side.

Flat, dull, linear...boring. I tried this over 2 nights, both were the same, both were boring. I received this bottle as a gift and was not aware of points, so I went into this with an open mind. Talk about points fail, wow. No depth, no breadth, just grape juice. Maybe best as part of a Sangria recipe. Nothing offensive here to warrant a 'Does Not Like', but nothing memorable, either. 14,0% abv, drink now.
Slow-O 1 hour, served non-blind.

Not sure what to think about this one. Only purchased as it was highly recommend by the wine shop. Apparently RP gave it a 94 or something. He must have hit the 9 by accident. We tried upon opening and decant. Then gave it some time, but not much help there. Very light, very flat and dull on the palate and almost no finish.

After I had my first bottle,I thought the rating was on the high side. I don't anymore. This is a decent wine that requires air to emerge fully. First sip was a bit mutes and I think that might be due to the syrah offsetting the brightness of the grenache. It took every bit of three hours for the grenache to outdistance the syrah, and when it did the fruit was there. Enjoyed this wine quite a bit and savored each sip. I think it can go for five more years and drink perfect out of the bottle them. Recommended.

This was a gift to us and a well matched one. The 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah makes for an enjoyable flavor sense. It fit very well with dinner and is at an excellent QPR and drinking window.

After air time in decanter aromas present with medium intensity, plum, blueberry, violets, baking spice spice, hints of cocoa, sandalwood and rocks. On the palate medium/medium-plus in body, the tannins are dusty and medium leaving a feeling of cocoa powder. Acidity is medium/medium plus. while the mouth feel is smooth and plush the mid palate density is medium. Flavors of black plum, wild berries and dark cherry upfront followed by a stream of minerality, crushed flowers, spice and light vanilla. The finish is medium in intensity and lingering on the grippy tannins and crushed flower notes.
Overall a good wine, but sorry Mr. Parker jr. this is in no way a 94 point wine. when considering complexity, age ability, overall depth and structure.... not even close. Considering the price point yes this is an exceptional value but lets keep perspective shall we.
full body, black fruit, and leathery tannin. bit of plum and some chalky minerality but definitely a fruit forward blend. syrah dominant. great inky red for under $15. doesn't deserve the parker score, but that's to be expected.

Not bad as a basic burger-wine. Ripe, bursting with plush, ripe strawberry, plum and cherry fruit. juicy, rich and round. Not much to contemplate here, just an easy drinking fruit-forward, fun little wine.

I can't go as far as a 94. I expect a lot more depth and complexity for a 94. However, the wine is quite silky and smooth. Some black fruit with a quick, light finish. Average score of the group was 88, but I think it deserves more than that.

Tasted blind and the nose threw me; my first thought was Italian Syrah. The palate, however, made clear that it was a Grenache heavy blend. The provenance remained difficult though because of what I thought, and now know was another Rhone varietal, 15 percent Syrah. I leaned toward Roussillon, Cotes Catalanes in particular. Was not surprised on the reveal though. What a wine! 91-92.

Dark red and purple color. Aromas of black fruits and wood spices. Very ripe but somewhat clumsy fruit in the mouth with good depth and length. Very integrated but not very complex on the palate. Perhaps this wine will improve with another 6 months of bottle age.

Vibrant purple in color, this wine, a blend of 85% garnacha/15% syrah, revealed intense aromas of black fruits, violets, licorice and black pepper. The mouth feel was lush with a seductive, velvety texture and additional tastes of smoke and minerals. The finish was medium/long in length with dense elements framing the fruits.
Purchased for $12US, this is an outstanding qpr and easily drinks like a $25+ bottle. I didn't see/feel/taste the 94 pts RP did but this is a quality wine offered at an excellent price. I'll purchase more for sure.

Consistent with my previous notes, but this time it felt that the finish was shorter, and it was not the best fit to the weather. That said, the tasters in the group really enjoyed the nose on this wine. It developed well over the 2-3 hours we sat near the pool and chatted. I don't think it fits a weather of 90F. Very good, but lesson learned weather-wise.

Not sure about that 94WA score but this is very good. More primary fruit aromas and flavors than anything else, but a hint of spices and earth ratchet this one up so superstar QPR status.

This wine evolved quite a bit over 2-3 hours. Initially very smooth and like other good Spanish values. After 2 hours, all the southern rhone-like characteristics came out and it really opened up well. Lots of darker fruit. This wine in 2012 is a fantastic value.

in the beginning a crazy mouthfeeling that capcanes themselves discribe as glycerin mouthfeeling
after a while morello cherry comes through, not kirsch (more of a cool and sappy kind of cherry, not that perfumed, rich liqueurlike) compote, red fruits, herbs, spices, white pepper cherry stone (typical montsant) maybe bitter almond
interesting how this wine changed from a dense and full, even tannic or rustic one to a graceful intellectual at the same time uncomplicated quaffer
Pobega one for the team... It is stupid good qpr bottle. 91-92 Details are now typed from a regular keyboard:
Pobega'd this one, and tasted right away. The verdict while waiting for dinner... this is stupid good qpr (!) Hard to believe it is at the 10-11 a bottle. It's getting better in the glass every 10-15 minutes. This is a nice qpr with very nice medium finish. Nice full body, great fruity background. Very enjoyable and you do not really need to have an excuse to open this one at this price range. I agree with many notes from Pro reviewers on this wine, in particular, the blacker fruits and flowers on the nose. Being notably 'less complicated' taster, I would just say: a steal QPR. Wish I had more space for storage, but may just get few more to have available for a no-excuse needed day.
Day 2: Tastes very well on day two as well. Maybe even slightly better (Left inside cellar all night). Overall very good return.

Talk about points fail, wow. No depth, no breadth, just grape juice. Maybe best as part of a Sangria recipe. Nothing offensive here to warrant a 'Does Not Like', but nothing memorable, either. 14,0% abv, drink now.

I think this wine is still young, drank a glass on opening and it was quite tight. The following day it opened up well...I found it to be very interesting.

A big, bold, oaky grenache. I'm not sure about a RP94, but this presents an excellent QPR.

This wine in 2012 is a fantastic value.

in the beginning a crazy mouthfeeling that capcanes themselves discribe as glycerin mouthfeeling
after a while morello cherry comes through, not kirsch (more of a cool and sappy kind of cherry, not that perfumed, rich liqueurlike)
compote, red fruits, herbs, spices, white pepper
cherry stone (typical montsant) maybe bitter almond
interesting how this wine changed from a dense and full, even tannic or rustic one to a graceful intellectual at the same time uncomplicated quaffer

Day 2:
Tastes very well on day two as well. Maybe even slightly better (Left inside cellar all night). Overall very good return.
