Concentrated golden yellow color with a slightly developed ochre hue. Quite intense, sweet and somewhat waxy nose with vibrant aromas of acacia honey, beeswax, some orange marmalade, light dried apricot tones, a little bit of canned pineapple and a hint of saffron - and, with some air, a lifted touch of nail polish VA. The wine is broad, sweet and quite full-bodied on the palate with concentrated flavors of apple jam, canned pineapple, some dried exotic fruits, light stony mineral tones, a little bit of steely minerality, sweet hints of orange marmalade and candied ginger and a touch of beeswax. The overall feel is definitely sweet, but perhaps not as sweet as you'd expect for a 5 Puttonyos. At first the acidity felt rather modest, but slowly the incisive acidity managed to cut through the residual sugar, further toning the residual sugar down. The finish is long, sweet and firm with bright acidity. Quite concentrated flavors of dried apricots and ripe pineapple, steely and slightly saline mineral tones, some sweet notes of honeycomb and orange marmalade, light nuances of sultana, a hint of mushroomy botrytis and a lifted touch of nail polish VA.
A classically built, fine and harmonious Tokaji that feels still very youthful for its 12 years of age. There are some understated nuances of age, but the overall feel is that of a very young wine, showing remarkable intensity and purity of fruit without any tertiary qualities. I'd say the wine feels slightly drier than you typical Aszú 5 Puttonyos, but nothing outside what would be acceptable. The wine is very tasty and rewarding right now, but will continue to improve for years - decades, even - more. Excellent stuff. How can you not love this?

Opened 11 months ago using corawine. Feared that it had became totally flat after 11 months under the layer of gas. Not true: still full of flames- long and lasting sweetness combined with an almost perfect balancing acidity. Super solid and close to a wow wine:)

An outstanding example of a Tokaj wine. Medium to deep gold. In the nose, pronounced with dried apricot, orange, baked yellow apple, banana, mango, passion fruit, orange marmalade, honey, vanilla, smoke, espresso. On the palate, pronounced with orange, vanilla, and mango. Sweet, high acidity, medium alcohol, full body. Long finish

The apperience was clear, with a medium intensity and a even amber coloration. On the nose the intensity was medium(+), with Primary aromas of Sugar coated Orange, Sultana, Ginger and Marmalade. Secondary and Tertiary aromas of Petrol, Almond, Caramel and Walnut where developing. The general development was developed. On the palate the wine was of luscious sweetness, masking a high acidity and medium level of alcohol. The body was full with a pronounced flavor intensity. Again Primary aromas of Suagar coated Orange, Sultana, Ginger and Marmalade. Secondary and Tertiary aromas of Petrol, Almond, Caramel and Walnut where developed. All rounded with a very long lasting finish. In conclusion the wine was of very good quality, being a stellar example of what a Tokaji Azsu should be. Drink from 2018-2025

Blind, honey color, tropical fruits, honey, cotton candy, super rich, youthful thick and viscous, ending with a slightly acidic finish. Drink over the following decade.

A lot of funk on Thanksgiving day and it didnt go over well with anyone. It was the overwhelming flavor and wasnt as sweet as I thought it was going to be. Better on day 2 but wasnt anything Id buy again. Quite disappointed in this as I was so looking forward to drinking and sharing it.

Medium amber colour. Pronounced nose with dried apricot, honey, rubber and orange marmelade. Pronounced flavour of hazelnut, caramel, dried apricot, vanilla and honey. High acidity and medium body. A truly great wine! Goes well with blue cheeses, foie gras or desserts like baked apples, creme bruleé, cloudberry cream and white chocolate.

Flavors and aromas of dried pear and lemon peel with a hint of leather. Not as deep or complex as some other Tokajis I've had, but good nonetheless. Iffy QPR @$46 from Costco.

Super rich nose of apricot and honeysuckle. I love the balance of this wine. As it ages it become richer and more complex. There is a ton of acidity which bodes well for its longevity. Palate not cloying at all and very balanced. Very rich for 5 p’s. A bit clipped on the finish. Still an excellent wine. Let this go another decade. 5-7-8-18-4

Dessert Flight: Excellent nose, loads of honeysuckle and plum with tropical fruit and boytris- almost more like a Sauternes- but the palate is too flinty and acidic for the level of sweetness, which instead swamps the finish with sugary alcohol. My instinct is that this is over the hill- it needed more fruit and more softness around the finish. Still perfectly serviceable, though uninispiring. Maybe benefited from some weaker competition in the tasting.

I served this in my wine course. Some distracting VA in the nose. Behind that, honey and ripe flowers and fairly distinct smell of slightly fermented green scallion. Rich mouth. Long finish is not as complex as the nose, but is well balanced between sweet honey and searing acidity.

Charming mid-weight sweet wine. Bright honey apricot and vanilla nose complements a silky palate more honey and white fruit, modest hit of tart acid and length. Lack of complexity & depth relative to better sweet wines. Still, very enjoyable.

i usually like younger botrytis infected wine, but even with all the dried fruit and oxidative note this still has really good tension. The spiciness and bitterness also add appeal. Nose reminds me more of BA riesling than Sauternes. Top notch. 92-93

Really just superb. Deeply aromatic with notions of apricot, honey, and almond paste. Noticeably viscous in the glass, almost oily in the mouth. Buttered peaches and more apricots and honey in palate. A real depth of fruit in the midpalate, and length is longer than i could wait for the next sip.
Two people at the table let out an audible 'wow' on the first sniff. This is the real deal. Perhaps not as elegant as a top estate from Sauternes, but a similar flavor profile and just a steal for the price.

Luscious and lovely, with intense aromas of honey, quince, vanilla, quatre-épices and apricot. Viscous on the palate, the acidity is vibrant and beautifully balanced against the wine's sweetness. Pronounced flavors of honey, peach, apricot, quince jam and quatre-épices.

My first Hungarian wine, good stuff, fruit with good acid that went well with poached pears, chocolates and macerated berries, wine never got cloying, rather substantial wine at 12%alcohol, would drink again.

I had the precious chance to compare this wine the previous one you find in my tasting note list, another Tokaji from BBR (Oremus). The wines were of course similar, but here there was a clearer development, with less acidity (although still quite high and overall balanced), less fruity aromas (marmalade, dried apricot, nectarine were still there) and more earthy, honey and even mushroom nuances.
Both great, but I prefer the maturity of this one; calm, but still hiding a lot of power.

Gylden orangegul honning på farge.
Heftig botrytis, tørket aprikos, saftig syre.
Deilig fyldig sødmefull med lasersyre som balanserer sylskarpt! Herlig! Tørket aprikos, krondill/kreps?
Digg!
