Champagne, Riesling, and Bordeaux with Skippy (Chicago, IL): Liked, but didn't love this. The most distinguishing feature here are the phenolics, almost like this went through a slight bit of skin contact. There's just a very slight bit of sweetness here, as well as some crisp apple flavours. Good material here, just better in spätlese than in GG.

Complex and a bit perfume-like nose. Long on the palate with excellent acidity. Slight petroleum like aromas are slowly starting to emerge. The texture has a hint of oiliness as well.

90-91pts. Enjoyed this one. Gained in complexity as the bottle aired for a few hours. Had a good amount of richness to it. Full bodied texture and weight, with pear and granny smith notes, but finished nicely balanced and though not a profound effort, an overall interesting flavor profile that was great with food and on its own.

This is a concentrated, rich and intense riesling. Had it with dinner (warm smoked salmon, asparagus and hollandaise) and couldn't really focus on the wine, so no rating this time although I did like it very much. It is dry, but not bone dry. Needs a couple of years in the bottle, or a few hours of air to show more of its potential.

Howard Ripley 2012 Grosses Gewächs Tasting (Middle Temple Hall, London): Stony and more mineral on the nose than the Kupp 18. More concentrated and better definition on the palate, too. In fact a much more serious proposition overall with a broad spectrum of citrus flavours. Slightly chewy just now. 16.5/20. 2015+

Compared to the Kupp Fass 18 GG, a touch riper on the nose, more powerful, mineral but still very fresh and precise. Very nice lime notes on the palate. Decent length.

Good fruit, dry-ish. Rich mouthfeel. Not much complexity but nice with a spicy meal.

Mike's Riesling Dinner (The Glasshouse): Served just a touch too warm, and that took the edge off what was already going to be quite a full-bodied wine.
A citrus nose with hints of kerosene. Caramel and fleshy mango on the palate - tastes almost off-dry. Nice to drink, but not a great wine.

PNP into Lucaris glass (“Fruit” day): Pale golden to the eyes.
Aromatic citrus, stone fruits. Sweet florals. Some traces of sugar?
Highly mineral and well judged acidity. Really enjoyable already.
92-93 points.

Greenish Yellow , looks quite young.
Mineral nose, some reduction initially, after a while nice fruit of apricot and Yellow Apples.
Very mineral / stony on the palate, quite slim with good acidity, excellent length
Too young at this stage, would wait at least 3 years before consumption of next bottle.

Peter Lauer and Freddie Mugnier dinner (The Chancery, London): Not very different from the 2011 - younger, tighter, less expressive, but still very attractive

Fresh chalky, stony aromas. Bright zippy style with juicy green fruit, more intensity than the 12 Kupp Fass GG 18 alongside it.
