Still drinking well but beginning to show signs of decline; its turning a bit dry, thinning, and the color is very light. Sweet red raspberries and red licorice with leather and spices too, but alcohol is very noticeable (14.5%). If you have any, drink it now.

Pepper, garrigue, and cherry bouquet. Supple, ripe fruit entry. Fresh fruit flavor with good concentration, there are accompanying secondary characteristics that add complexity. Very good length.

This deep garnet Châteauneuf is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 13% Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault. Still packed with dark bramble fruits, Provençal herbs, Asian spices, melted licorice and loamy earth, it is a full-bodied, fresh red with soft oak, well-integrated alcohol (14.5%) and medium-weight, silky-textured tannins. Solid on the middle palate and long on the finish, it is fleshing out as anticipated. This tasting was from a bottle that was cellared under ideal conditions. Vinturi-decantation and sampling over the ensuing two hours proved that an hour or more in decanter is beneficial at this stage in the wine's life. Drink now-2027.

Great balance at this point in time. Fruit-driven (blackberry mainly), acidity to balance and some tertiary notes of mushroom, dried fruits (prune, fig). Drink now or wait at most a year or two.

Nicely developed with great balance and already developing tertiary aromas of tobacco but still subdued. There is still a fair degree of youthfulness. To drink next 2-3 years ?

Janasse's 2012 Châteauneuf is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 13% Mourvèdre and 2% Cinsault. Highly aromatic, it is effusive of dark bramble fruits, Provençal herbs, Asian spices, loamy earth and licorice. Full-bodied, fresh, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%), softly oaked and with medium sweet tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is a Châteauneuf that still has plenty of life left. Drink now-2027.

Janasse Tasting (Rolando's House): Sweetness, cola spice, tobacco leafs. Much thinner body than the other wines in the flight, maybe a cooler vintage? Nice acidity and more tobacco and roses as it opens up.

Very pretty floral nose with notes of sweet kirsch cherry and garrigue spices. Quite ripe and juicy with delicious flavors that echo the nose plus hints of raspberry liqueur and chalky minerals. Really a soft, silky texture but with good acidity and structure underneath. Finishes quite grippy and tangy with good complex garrigue spice and a mouth-watering quality. A little on the ripe side for me but the wine is very tasty and gets away with it.

Full-bodied, fresh and with well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), it frames its fruit with medium sweet tannins and soft oak. Beautifully dense in the middle and long on the finish, this Châteauneuf should provide pleasure for another decade. Drink now-2027.

Clear, medium-ruby color. Lots of secondary complexity on the nose- plum & cherry fruit, with cracked pepper, rosemary & lavender, iron, blood sausage, and cardamom. Full and concentrated on the palate, further revealing intense dark berry and cherry fruit, sweet & savory spice notes, caraway, chalky minerality, and dried flowers. Brightens with air, with fleshy elegance on the mid-palate, balanced acidity, and fine grippy tannins. Solid length on the finish, dry and mouthwatering. Outstanding, well-structured, and showing beautifully now.

The 2nd wine in 4 blind wines and the nose captured me right away with loads of umami, smoke, orange peel, high toned fruits and musk. It pulled itself more toward the fig cake, melted licorice, herbs de provance, hoisen and soy over the next 3 days. I was a bit surprised when this was revealed as Janasse as most the others i've had always toe the line between modern and OW and this was a different more feminine with finesse style.

Brought this to a tasting with friends that featured several CdPs and Rhone varietals. Loud and interesting bouquet, showing what more than a few tasters might describe as essential CdP elements. These included orange peel (cut, clove-pierced, and candied), hoisin, cured meats, sweet spices, sandalwood, coagulated beef blood, balsamic, and more than a little umami. Velvety texture, appealing weight, pleasantly bracing mouthfeel. It was arguably the best balanced of all the wines sampled during the evening, showing a complex amalgam of acid, tannin, and earthy substance. It also wore its alcohol exceptionally well. Among the best post-2010 vintage Rhones I have tasted. Likely a 12 to 15 year wine from now. My WOTN in a flight that included a 2011 Pégaü Réservée and a 2010 Les Halos de Jupiter Châteauneuf-du-Pape Adrastee. 94-95.

Tasted at Pogos. Dark blackberries, some blueberries, kirsch, garrigue, herbs, earth. Moderate acid with some elegance given its weight. Full bodied with tannins but still all well balanced. Liked this. Not sure I can drink more than 1 glass but good, given the southern rhone lineup.

Chateauneuf-Du-Pape domaine visits: Tasted at the domaine. Aromas of brambly black fruit, mineral, flowers. Rich, silky and layered on the palate with flavors tending more to sweet red fruit- cherry and fig, along with tea and mineral notes. Nice intensity. Big mid-palate density. Silky tannins. Full finish.

2012 Chateauneuf du Pape (Trent's): Ruby/purple in color. The nose is tight with raspberries, dust and slight charred quality. On the palate, black raspberries. Juicy acidity. Medium tannins. Drinking better than most tonight. I liked this more than the group. One first, no seconds, one third (my vote).

Opaque ruby color turning violet at the rim with a nose of dark berries, dried flowers and smoke. The palate is fruity, medium-to-full-bodied with a silky texture. Flavors of blackberry, blueberry compote, raspberry, spice and charred oak. Hollows out in the mid-palate but comes back in the end, albeit a bit late. Finishes with hints of graphite and dried herbs. Quite frankly, this is a bit underwhelming compared to the 2010 vintage and considering its youth. Drink now until 2022.

From a good vintage with a long picking season known for its acid and elegance. Clear, medium ruby with significant sediment.
Possibly a bad bottle but this wine was very mature, medicinal and gamey with wet soil, miso and worn leather.
Palate is far more pleasant than the nose. Fully resolved tannins.
Flavours of dusty black cherry and earth. Harmonious and integrated.
Past peak. Drink now.
