Monthly Tasting Group HWS: Chateauneuf du Pape vs Gigondas (By me): Beautiful and complex bouquet with dark berries, garrigue, forest floor and some barnyard smells. Same on the palate, juicy acidity, herbs, still slightly sticky tannin and a good length. Beautiful wine in its maturity stage, but no extreme hurry drinking this.

Well crafted, typical Gigondas with dark fruit, spices, licorice and garrigue notes. Enjoy now and don't wait too long. Paired well with our beef Teriyaki.

Dark red color. Nose of flowers and dark cherry fruit. Quite rich on the palate, dense, dark cherry fruit and garrigue. Good acidity too. Ready to drink in my view, good balance, dark fruit and some tertiary notes. Late night dinner with our mothers at La Contadine.

From MG. Open, local with plenty of herbs, a sound Grenache-fruit. While very 2012 in it's friendliness, it has a cool, vertical structure also, a joy to drink. Drinking window wide open IMHO. #LaMirande#Avignon

Give just 15 minutes of air, and it starts showing off, very typical for the vintage in term of juicy, forthcoming fruit, here connected to stony, mineral notes and a cool firmness that shows the real Gigondas. It's till a young wine, though drinking very well, and i would not mind having half a case left - alas, I don't ... #Kandestederne

Drink now. I wouldn't keep it much longer. Medium body. I was a bit worried it faded after 10 min, but it opened up again after another 10-15 min. Quite nice but not mind-blowing.

I’m picking up red and black fruit, licorice, a little bit of smokiness and a hint of thyme. Subdued fruit and some earthiness. Nice representation of a Gigondas. Very good! Drinking very nicely now.

We paired this wine with duck confit. Deep garnet , long legs; berries and juicy red/dark currants, balanced acidity, toasted oak, nicely layered, good structure, medium chewy tannins that developed with aeration but softened after about 2hrs, long silky finish.

Not much sign of age at the rim. Liquorice, dark fruit and sloes on the nose. Some nice garrigue notes on the palate with some some smoky dark fruit balanced by a nip of acidity. Lovely with our rib of beef on a cold autumn evening. Drinking well now but no rush imho.

authentic benchmark Gig - mixed red/black fruits, a little burned oak, garrigue (laurel, yes - possibly lavender), menthol note now on the finish. Long, moves through multiple phases on the palate. Medium+ tannins. doesn't gain all that much in the decanter. I saw 90.4 as the CT score and that pretty much summed it up for me
Not sure I agree re drink up - pretty sure this will have gone dumb for about two years through 2016 - 2017 and is opening up again. Classic s Rhone double window - don't be fooled into thinking it is on an irreversible downslope. I give it 91 for its distinctiveness from the rest of the southern Rhone, for its faithfulness to place.

At the Gage in Chicago w Andrew, this one recommended by the wait staff...
Medium brick/garnet color. Nose was expressive right out of the bottle - dark fruits, spice, earth and garrigue. Palate of red cherry, baking spice, cloves, earth and herbs. Smooth texture, medium body and finish.
Savory and expressive wine, nice surprise the upside. Classic earthy Gigondas profile, drinking well now. Paired nicely with spiced dishes...

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #022: Gigondas (By PV): Beautiful and expressive bouquet with good garrigue, a lot of red berries and laurel. On the palate juicy fruits and acidity, spices like clove, white pepper, still youthful tannin with a pleasant bite. The alcohol shows a bit, but is not really disturbing.

Nose of black berry, red cherry, earth, and a touch of barnyard, same on the palate, medium/big body, tasty, at its best, almost elegant, mouth filling fruit, easy to enjoy with dinner and then sip and savor, long finish.

Diep rode kleur, licht bruin aan de rand, aroma's van frisse kersen, zwart bramen fruit, mineralig/graniet, rokerige tonen en zoethout. In de mond een volle aanzet, zwoele fruit expressie met een lange afdronk.

Expressive Gigondas, approaching its drinking window. Dense, medium to full bodied, with ample dark, jammy fruit, garrigue, tea, spices, balsamico.
