From 375ml at restaurant. We had this as an alternative to dessert. Deep gold color. Rich, but not nearly as apparently sweet as I expect from an Auslese, no doubt because of the stunning acidity. Certainly sweet, but not cloying, and with a bright freshness. Complex flavors of apricot, tropical fruit, and very light petrol notes. I adored this wine. This will clearly age well and improve for years ahead. I found a few bottles for my cellar and will tuck these away for the future.

First attempt was corked and palate was a bit fatigued, but this one is drinking well. Cheers. This has that excellent balance which Doennhoff is know to have.

Developed nicely since en-primeur tasting 8-9 years ago. Accessible and rich but still in the early stages of development. Try again in 5-8 years. A good match for most fruit-based desserts / cakes (except chocolate). Works with blue cheese and will probably be a good match to foie gras.

Almost nine years since the last time we had this wine, and while the first time was magic, this time was mind blowing. Take a perfect peach. Slice it in half. Sprinkle each half with a light coating of cinnamon sugar. Grill just until the peach is heated through, and the sugar is lightly caramelized. Top each half with a wine-soaked black cherry and a dash of whipped cream that has been flavored with vanilla and orange zest.
Drink.

Beautiful golden colour! Aromas of quince, white flowers and an almost salty mineral note. Wonderful palate with such a wonderful balance between sweetness, acidity, minerality and fruit. Quite long aftertaste. There is a very nice viscosity to the wine. The wine is very much spot on at present. It is past the primary phase, but there is still loads of vibrant crispy fruit on the palate.

Light gold color. The nose shows Nahe-typical cherry fruit, along with the characteristic volcanic stone character of Hermannshöhle. It's charming, but the aromatics are not the most complex at the moment. The palate is another story, however. Medium-full--by Riesling standards--with weight but also a pillowy texture, and flavors of cotton candy, quince jelly, and tangerine. A zesty acidic streak lifts the palate and focuses the finish, which unfolds layers of candied citrus fruit and stone. Sweet but not a dessert-wine Auslese, very much a table wine which will be lovely with appropriate cheeses or lighter fruit desserts. This is just beginning to show some signs of development, and while it was a delight to check in on now, it will surely benefit from some additional cellar time for the fruit and acidity to integrate and for the aromatics to develop further. An excellent vintage of this wine.

AP 23 14. Stunning precision and balance! The development this has shown since the initial release is confirming that this will end up being one of the finest Donnhoff bottlings I've ever had. The cut of the acidity gives this an amazing levity and three-dimensional depth that seemed lacking in the 2015 bottlings. Although sweet, it retains the playfulness and versatility of a Spatlese, and doesn't seem to be going through a shut-down phase like the corresponding lower Pradikat bottling is in right now. 96-97p and improving with age!

(Mostly white Burgundy) Dinner at Nico Osteria (Chicago, IL): #23-14, 8% abv. From half bottle. This is one of the best young versions of this wine that I remember tasting. There's so much white hot electricity coursing through this that you can't help but be impressed by it. A veritable kaleidoscope of sweet white fruit, ranging from pineapple to lychee, but in balance with the high 2013 acidity makes this one of those exception Doennhoff wines that manages the tightrope walk. As an extra note, I didn't pick up any strong botrytis this vintage.

Really wonderful wine. This bottle was a little less show-stopping than the one I had on initial release. Perhaps this time was less than fair because I had it at a party along with a 2013 JJ Prum W-S Goldkapsel that would blow almost any wine out of the water. But this highlighted everything that top wines of this vintage exhibit - massive fruit, clean botrytis, and high acid (not quite as extreme as 2010). Very well integrated with everything in perfect harmony and balance.

Unparalleled precision and balance. As stunning as it was when tasted last year. Needs some 15 min of swirling in the glass to open up, and continues to develop for more than an hour (perhaps more, but not much left to assess at that point). Still I get the feeling that there are more layers underneath (wait 10 years? It could last a few decades if stored at optimal conditinos)

Une couleur pâle très surprenante, un nez intriguant qui ne dévoile pas le liquoreux fabuleux qui nous attend à la première gorgé. Des arômes de pêches, de poires, un léger sucre. Un équilibre grandiose, excellent !

Dessert wine closing a dinner with friends. From memory. This was absolutely stunning. Very sharp, precise, moderately sweet and with lots of balancing acidity. Very long. A beauty.

From a 750 ml bottle that vanished as if it were a 187, this was magical. The peach and cherry fruit was accented by ginger, Asian spices and a deep, firm mineral base. Elegant, pure and incredibly long, it was a monument to the grape, the vineyard and the producer. Stunning stuff that is irresistible now. Wow!

A *very* impressive Auslese Goldkapsel. Tasted alongside the Oberhäuser Brücke Auslese Goldkapsel. Both are stunning. [Justerini German Riesling tasting]

Simply majestic. Great concentration and intensity of fruit, still precise and focused. Powerful, exalted, fine. Wonderful minerality. Enormous length. Hard to put into words how good this is. 98-99+

Amazing. In a great drinking window but has life for many years of patience. Off dry. Racy and vibrant. Excited that I have more.

Intense orange peel and lemon zest flavors, followed by white flowers. Sweetness balanced by lively acidity. Not cloying or heavy at all. Delicious.

Joli vin mais moins exubérant et explosif que le 2011.
Le sucre n'est pas encore bien intégré. A attendre 5 ans.
