At 10 years old this is still a huge pinot noir. I'm going to wait a few years before opening another one and will definitely decant next time. Still very deep in color, there's lots of black raspberries, blackberries and loads of black cherries in the nose with hints of floral and earthiness. Lots of dark fruits and plums in the flavor as well. A complex wine, full bodied, nice acidity, and a long finish. Just needs a little more time.

This wine continues to drink very well: notes of plum, black raspberry, floral tones with good balance and mouthfeel. Tannins are soft and well integrated. Paired with grilled miso salmon.

Given how over the top this has seemed to me over the last few bottles, this was a bit of a surprise - high alcohol in check, fruit bombs dialed back to comfortable levels, overall a typical Sonoma PN, if still a bit heavy and saturated on the palate.

Tart, massive cherry bomb with some wood notes. Strong alcohol presence with some tar and ash … easily one of the biggest, most intense pinots we’ve ever had. Imagine massive Napa cab weight, but with Pinot flavors. We tend to like pinots younger, but this either needs to sit in bottle for another 5+ years or be enjoyed as a explosive Pinot.
p.s. stuffed cornish game hens with sautéed cabbage and charred brocclini

Decanted 30 minutes and filtered through a coffee filter, removing light amounts of fine sediment. Fruit has grown perhaps a bit thin, so the noticeable acidity was not as well balanced as I’d hoped. I suspect that some of the notes below are actually from the “The Coast” variant of the same winery and vintage, which is a bigger, darker, more fruit-forward wine that scored higher in most pro reviews. Note that this wine is the straight “Pinot Noir” labeling, not “The Coast”.

The oakiness has calmed down a lot since the last bottle of this that I had a few years back, but this is still an all-caps, full throttle wine that pushes the limits of Pinot. Gigantic, explosively flavored and about as subtle as a Super Bowl halftime show, but it's a fun guilty pleasure. At the end of the day, I think this succeeds because it's totally leans into the oversized everything and it is unashamed by the bombastic style. This might be the easiest wine to blind taste... ever.
This actually paired well with smoked and grilled duck, but this needs similarly big flavors, as it's a bit (well, a lot) of a steamroller.

A couple more years, and we have some clarity, albeit not what we had hoped. At this stage of its evolution, it falls into the overblown pinot camp - veering between fruit bomb and palate-heavy tannic red. I feel that if you blinded this, some percentage of the tasters would call it a light Turley zin, which could be fun, but probably isn't what you had in mind when you opened a bottle of pinot. I could probably still let that slide if the QPR was attractive, but that's not the case either.

Age has been incredibly good to soften up this full bodied pinot. Scratchy tannins a couple of years ago are now softened to a smooth structured texture; a fresh aroma of forest floor on opening, then comes aromas and tastes of dark berries, red currant, a little strawberry, blackberry, ending with a mouth watering long finish.

Nose initially has a little greenness, and while not unpleasant, blows away to show ripe candy apple fruit. Bright and energetic, but hot. Heavily wooded. While the nose is gettable the palate is unduly sweet and hot. Acid seems out of control high. Actually has the searing sweetness of a red candy apple. Simmering down a little after 90 minutes or so, but still too high-toned for my preference. Redeeming qualities are detectable, some cool blue fruit. Nose definitely preferable to palate.

Decanted for 2 hours and needed more. This is a baby. Initially light bodied, acidic and tannic, it evolved into a medium bodied, intense wine. Red berry and spice blasts from the glass with a long finish. Hopefully this finds its stride before it falls apart but time will tell. Suggest waiting until 2020 to begin drinking.

It is day 2 and I liked the wine only on day 1 after a three hour decant. It is now hot with a syrup like texture and cinnamon notes. The nose is even hot and I would serve this wine on the cool side, not room temperature. The wine still has candy apple middle and sour overtones. It reminds me of Jason Woodbridge's Cherry Pie wine, which is also a pinot. I would like to check these two out at a tasting just to see if there is a copy cat here. Boars View is a Schrader wine and maybe they tried to appeal to the same customer. Anyway, not worth the money for the 2012. I have a 2011 which I will compare this too, but in my mind it is not a wine I will buy again. It is certainly a new world pinot and will appeal to those who prefer the bright, big forward fruit style.

I'll rate the wine. It is not a PNP. After an hour it settles down to a spice bomb. It is balanced and much like a fruit forward cab, but with the pinot grape which gives it a complex lift. This wine is terrific with middle eastern foods, but not so much with a steak unless you are camping out in the wilderness.. Cherry cola and something in the order of a bloody Mary mix makes it enjoyable. Open the oysters and clams. I would also mention that there is some sour patch kids candy in the wine. Now, many would find this off pudding, but in a recent wine tasting where someone mentioned jujubees as a descriptor then I believe I have the poetic licence use make this note. This wine is not something that is going to mellow out in the glass five hours later, but will keep it's distinctive composure and tell you it is still the boss. Don't have it with brie, but a sharp cheese with a spread will do. I like it because it is different and will be interesting to follow over ten years.

The extreme style of this wine makes it a little pointless to score this wine, as I think reactions would be pretty binary. This says Pinot Noir on the label and it is certainly made from Pinot grapes, but the typicity pretty much ends there. This is effectively a glossy, hyper-modern styled Napa Cab that was coincidentally made with Pinot. Even at six years old, you are getting strong high toast vanilla oak notes, bombastic ripe red fruits, almost candied cherry notes, cherry-cola notes, a touch of leather, some brambly herbaceous notes... almost as a wink and a nod to its Pinot origins. Super extracted color, viscous in the mouth, intensely concentrated flavors and, surprisingly, there is just enough acid to mostly keep things in check. You will never confuse this with a crisp refreshing wine, I'm just saying that there is just enough acid for some semblance of balance. Finishes pretty long, but more based on the sheer power of the wine, rather than being super complex.
The nerd part of me sort of wants to hate this, but there's a catch... it is really delicious. There's an undeniable guilty pleasure quality to this. If you could turn Las Vegas into a wine, this would probably be it. From the bottle size, to the label, to the triple dipped wax capsule, to the wine inside of it all, there is nothing about this that isn't over the top. Not something I want all the time, but there is a place for this. Probably more of a cocktail wine, but this can pair with beef and heavier pork dishes and would steamroller over fish or anything on the lighter side.
Large scaled big ripe Pinot, but seems to have a sense of balance and place. Not a typical style of Pinot I seek out but I found this quite drinkable, fresh despite the scale. Some hints of cola/ripeness but plenty of Pinot fruit and funk. Biggest downside to this is the price.

Difficult for me to assign a rating to this as it's simply not made in a style that I enjoy. Could be the poster child of what I don't like about Cali pinot. Way too over the top for me. Reminds me of Barry Bonds in the later half of his career. Too much....too much...

Decanted for an hour before service. In the glass, pink at the rim shading quickly to very dark red at the core, but still clear throughout. On the nose, initially reticent, but after a couple of hours, a blast of concentrated cherries and secondary notes of baking spice. On the palate, almost too much of a good thing - loads of fruit, to the point that any secondary notes are pushed out of the picture, and a texture that sits somewhere between silky and sappy. Should I drink all of this now or hold it for ten years? Your guess is as good as mine.

Much better than two years ago in that it is no longer disjointed. However, it is still not expressive at all. A huge pinot, very syrah like in texture and notes. Still may become quite good (if atypical) given a handful more years as this is still way too young.

Amazing Pinot... ready to drink right now, but will probably only get better with holding. Decanted and drank within 1/2 hour - great nose, long on the tongue and really, really good. My favorite Pinot for sure, possibly my favorite wine right now. Get some and drink AND hold.

As someone else mentioned, this wine literally needs a 24 hour decant. Given that time, it shows very well and starts to come together quite nicely. Will reserve scoring until the other bottles have had enough time to rest and age.

PnP at home. Not really sure what to do with this. It's good, but I just found it to be pretty basic, which is fine except for the price. I will say it's a lot better than the Aston Pinot that Schrader makes.

PnP and let stand in the glass for 30 minutes. Nose was tight with copious amounts the red cherry & strawberry and hints musty barnyard.
On the palate this Pinot is still tight with a very decent tannin backbone. The red cherry was dominant. The acids and alcohol were balanced but a little disjointed. There is a lot more to this wine that is yet to be reveled but with some time this could be a stunner wine.

Brought to restaurant for dinner. Dark and concentrated for a pinot, this shows tremendous depth of fruit but was heavily tannic and closed down. A longer decant would have helped. Overall, this is probably still too young, but I couldn't resist trying one at this stage.

Schrader Cellars Wine Dinner (Little Palm Island): This wine is still way young and for that reason I would not give it a score. Enormous is size, the tannins are still unresolved. But they are in balance with the acidity. Big bright cherry flavors and a whole lot else that I couldn't discern going on. Very good at the moment, I think this will become a great wine.

Massive tannins and astringency upon opening... nothing pleasant. Maybe still asleep in the bottle. Decanted for two hours... not much improvement, tannins that made me think of licking felt. I'm concerned it's a flawed bottle, decanted twice more and let it sit another two hours. Astringency finally waned, tastes of cherry lite, but no heat that others mentioned. Tannins softened enough, very structured, still cherry lite and indiscernible, complicated tastes. At 6 hours, this Pinot is showing some potential; dinner guests certainly thought it was good enough to finish with a '12 Belle Glos Pinot Noir. Good pedigree, too young, and needs a couple of years to wake up and achieve some degree of maturity. Much different than Aston Estates now, but promising.

Good juice. Similar in style to the River's Marie pinots. Needs to have significant air to really open. Strong backbone of acidity keeps it fresh. Deep red fruits and a spice driven element. The wood needs to further integrate. Otherwise a good Fort Ross Seaview pinot. 93+.

On the first night the nose on this admittedly Pobegaed wine was reticent but the palate showed some intense fruit. Tonight, 24 hours after being open, the nose is full of pretty primary berries, hints of chocolate, and even a touch of mint. I readied myself for a huge palate and was surprised by somewhat restrained red and black fruit with some green notes and somewhat dusty tannins. Very young but not unbalanced. I get no heat in this whatsoever. Nice acidity too. Glad to have several bottles. Will wait at least a year to try number two. The name suits it.
A very, very nice Cali pinot. Fruit forward without Cali pinot funk. No coca cola. Excellent balance and very smooth. Was the ABV a bit high? I didn't notice. I had just finished supervising the cooking of a pre-Thanksgiving banquet for 65 adults and children from the family homeless shelter in White Plains and opening this was my present to myself. I wanted a wine with a bit of strength and power and this delivered. Definitely pinot and definitely California, but without the pinot funk that inhabits many Cali pinots and not an insignificant number from Burgundy that I have had blind.
Interesting contrast to the Peay 2012 we had at the same time. That had marked tannins and was much less approachable that this wine.

There's much to like about this wine and one very serious flaw
The flaw is the wine drinks way too hot - well above even the 14.5% on the label - which in my view couldn't possibly be right
Drank the bottle after a couple days rest post delivery - somewhat disjointed day one but the purity of the sweet fruit (classic Schrader trait evident even in their Cabs) and minerality came through
It was surprising given how light the wine felt in the glass and on the palate
The finish would have been superb except one feels the alcohol as soon as the wine is in the mouth and the surprising burn as it goes down
Days 2/3 the wine really came together but the alcohol burn never really went away - no experience with this wine but it may develop some length to the finish but may never cease drinking too hot
It's really too bad is besides the alcohol levels this should be a pleasant drink (although probably overpriced)

Thick, youthful and fruity but with nice tones on the finish. Should develop more complexity and has the structure to age.

Difficult for me to assign a rating to this as it's simply not made in a style that I enjoy. Could be the poster child of what I don't like about Cali pinot. Way too over the top for me. Reminds me of Barry Bonds in the later half of his career. Too much....too much...

Full nose is dense with black fruit and herbs. Very ripe and rich on the palate. Decent acids keep it reasonably fresh. A bit too much for me. Probably best now.

Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Small glass, brief note. I can understand why some people would enjoy this well made wine, but the sweetness and extreme ripeness do not work well for me.

A Sturdy California type pinot. Quite tight when opened and REALLY needs time to open up. It was actually better the next day. A real winner...

PnP at home. Not really sure what to do with this. It's good, but I just found it to be pretty basic, which is fine except for the price. I will say it's a lot better than the Aston Pinot that Schrader makes.

This is a big Pinot no doubt.

Beautiful nose of red fruits, dust and hints of milk chocolate. Very big on the tongue with huge tannins. This is definitely built for the long haul. Revisit in maybe 3-5 years and that might be to early.

Hopefully just too young...could not resist trying one. Probably a mistake. Big, somewhat disjointed and hot. Lots of flavors, though still somewhat monolithic. Will skip rating for now, will draw better conclusions in a couple years.

Infanticide---but like others, could not resist trying - very tannic and would not touch others for at least 2-3 yrs - but definitely got the notion of solid potential here & expect rating to go up - did not find it overly alcoholic, as did another commenter
