More backward, densed and layered with ripe black and red fruits, liquorice, peppers and well judged oak spices, dark chicolate. Supple yet soft, distinctive old vine Barossa character.

Had this last night. Very good, but not at the quality level I was expecting. Maybe expectations too high? I found it a bit angular, with the acidity popping out a bit too much. Great complexity – there’s no doubting the individuality of the site and its eucalypt, sage and bay leaf flavours. Will live a long time and maybe settle some more. Still very enjoyable- just not hitting the heights I was hoping for.

SS BBQ & Wine Night: New world shiraz, quite intense and powerful, with an incensed finish. This is still young and should improve with more time. Hold

Really beguiling nose on this precocious infant.... Dark fruits and berries, black olive, menthol, and a touch of birch/ root beer. Unfortunately this is just not ready for drinking at this time... Coarse tannin, biting acidity, and subdued fruit.
This is going to be stellar in 10-12 years because you can just sense the terrific underlying Syrah fruit/ structure lurking below. If one must, decant a minimum of 4-6 hours with frequent swirling.... But this is best left horizontal to develop the wonderful nuance and softness it will eventually reveal.
Just impossible to rate as the wine is just not ready yet.
Very young, with a tight, weighty, and super acidic profile that cuts through most any fruit at this stage. Dark syrah fruits and spice with a cabernetesque graphite component. Great restraint shown. Tart. Really promising.
Moncur Syrah/Shiraz (Bistro Moncur, Sydney): meaty, concentrated black cherry and berry fruit with muted cream and vanilla…tight grainy tannins, bullish, rambunctious in fact. Very young still.
Great nose that bursts with black cherry, Dutch chocolate, sage and baked earth. It is sweet and concentrated with refined tannins and a savoury finish.
(2012 birth vintgae wine) Dark ruby, almost impenetrable colour. Smells of dark fruits, ripe, some spice. Not giving a hell of alot at this stage. To taste its initally tight, but with some coaxing and a few hours in glass this really opens open. Medium fine tannins, full fruited, nicely balaned. Could do with another 5 years in teh cellar.
Palate of black and blue fruits, cherry, spices, ripe plums. Medium/full bodied, not too heavy. Smooth tannins. Aussie Shiraz done extremely well! Drinking well now, should hold 20+ years
Dark purple, shiny and clean color. Nose of dark fruit, eucalyptus, pine forest, cassis, very youthful. Enter s the palate with lots of fruit and sweetness but acidity and elegance at the same time, not heavy at all. Silky tannins. Medium-full bodied on the palate with a solid, fresh finish. This is nicely balanced for an SA Shiraz thanks to the elevation of Eden Valley. You can try this now but I think a few more years of age will add further complexity and softness - and probably a point or two.
Rich black fruits with some purple and blue fruits peeking through. Very full bodied and rich with supple tannins and an extremely long finish, the oak present but not dominant. This will need time to come together but it will be truly outstanding when it does. Easy 20 years cellaring I feel.
Purple rim, opaque black heart. Delicate nose, not as fragrant as the above two. Medium full body, medium full fruit, primary and delicious, mocha, balanced, minimal acidity, characteristic of all the Henschke's tasted today. Mild smooth tannins, supple. Vintage of the 21st century, alongside 2002.
AFR magazine top 20 tasting (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Booyah! Pronounced intensity aromas of ripe concentrated black fruit, very good quality oak, almost glue notes, vanilla, cream, chocolate. In the mouth the wine is rich, dense, medium plus intensity body, medium plus intensity flavours of blackberry, cherry and plum, spiced notes, chocolate then tight chalky tannins and a fair heft of alcohol heat. The whole carries very long. Massive but not flabby. Nice for what it is and, tonight, it's very good for my palate.
Black fruits. Roasted meats. Plant in 1912. Tight back end. Mineral. Structured as all get out. In a good way. Reminds me of guigal's top tiers with less oak.
Concrete fermented with the cap sub uraged. Darn good.
Very primary nose: Rosewater, kirsch, raspberries, vanilla, very candied sweet fruit standing out. Takes some time to reveal itself, and as it opens up more complexity builds. Palate lacks any harsh edges, so I've got no problem drinking it as such a young wine. Smooth, rich, and offers great intensity, concentration and tons of length. Just a teensy bit of heat apparent which throws it slightly off balance. Obviously very good fruit from a great year. More classic 'Barossan' in style than the HoG I feel.
Decanted hours before tasting (I think). Nose seems very subdued, but there are hints of raspberry, candied cranberry, star anise, and cinnamon. Palate is mild on the entry, but the mid palate reveals smooth tannin and strong acid, with flavours of candied cranberry, raspberry, violet, charred oak, and a hint of vinegar. Strange.
