Serious stuff. Notes of citrus, slate and hints of petrol starting to appear. Bone dry and high acidity, balanced by great density and viscosity. It sticks to your palate. Long dry finish. My WOTN.

Big, full bodied riesling with developed notes of tropical fruit, ripe apples and lemon with hints of rubber and story minerality. Pugnant acidity and it feels like there is more to get out of this wine, will wait 5 years for next bottle.

Had side by side with the 13 Kalkofen, this was more yellow in colour, also the floral note on the nose had a more yellow feel to it, mix of citrus and tropical fruits, stone minerals, seemed fuller bodied than the kalkofen with the same high a but was more integrated, fresh texture and a long juicy finish

Needed about one hour to show its stuff. Impressive in terms of balance and complexity. Just entering its drinking window. Drink or hold, however I would rather suggest to do the latter, cause this is still 3 to 5 years away from peak.

In a tasting of Ungeheuer from von Winning, but with a couple of bottles from von Buhl and Burklin wolf for comparison. From a commonly regarded "inferior" vintage. Brilliant green-yellow colour. A very herbal nose opening up after an hour or so in the glass to give way to aromas of green apples, chalk and a fascinating tone of spearmint chewing gum! Medium bodied attack, lots of acidity, but behind it all a fascinating combination of green apples, lemons, and tones of minerals (chalk, wet earth, petroleum). Extreme length, but rather lean in style. This is just a superb wine in a classic style with mor eemphasis on acidity and minerals than fruit. Closer to the style of Burklin Wolf and von Buhl than other vintages of this producer.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have opened this just now. Still, showing some stone fruit, lemon peel, lime zest, and just tons, and tons of structure. There's a lot here that's not showing, and I would imagine will take some time to come out. In time this will show very well. Not too bad now after a while being open, but I would say wait on this one.

Clean complex Riesling from Pfalz of von Winning: sharp nice acidity, mango, wet stone, mineral, papaya, soft oak, medium round, more round than other Rieslings I’ve tasted, grapefruit finish which is long, soft, a bit too heavy if you ask me. Perhaps time will soften it, nevertheless a great Riesling, super QPR!

fantastic wine. It has great acidity and tension for the long haul. It is currently quite young but a treat to drink none the less. You will get lots of pears, cooked apple, touch of canned peaches with great viscous texture and the wine will end on a lemon, citrus, tart note which will go on and on. Drink or hold or later, there is much pleasure to be had either way

Surprisingly our WOTN in a private 2013-GG-blindtasting against Dönnhoff Hermannshöhle, S-F Felseneck, B-S Frauenberg and v.Winning Kalkofen. All of us 6 tasters at the table found it the most complete wine, surprisinlgy also the wine with the most precise acidity, focus and tension - and the most open and complex bouquet as well. The oak was perfectly integrated and hardly sensible. Very well balanced, ripe fruit, solid body, cool minerality, precise acidity, slightly saline long finish. Easy to drink, very hedonistic, truly a crowd-pleaser on a very high level. Those Attmanns from recent vintages could age better than i would have thought before. And i have to add that our expected favorites and suspected long-distance-runners from Nahe absolutely disappointed, seemed both a bit broad, almost tired, with soft edges and a lack of acidity in comparison to the Ungeheuer...
on the nose longan, papaya, mineral & citrus palate is crisp with notes of lemon & orange peel, pink grapefruit, lime, salt medium body, light fruit, long refreshing citrus finish sublime!

As beautiful, crisp and stunning as during last tasting. Perhaps not revealing that extra "ooohmpf" found in previous bottles. Still a lovely wine though!

What a stunning Riesling. The nose is full of exotic fruit like pinneapple, passionfruit and mango. On the palate white peach, pinneapple again and lemongras. Endless length. This is best GG I ever tasted from Von Winning.

Virkelig godt!

An absolutely wonderful wine. The 2013 Ungeheuer is very mineral driven and has a massive acidity. The nose offers up classic citrus zest, wet stone and a lovely rich tone of summer meadow with flowers, tall grass and sun warm beeswax. Yes, this effort certainly reveals a duality tonight which will most likely integrate in due course. The palate is pure class. All components are in place, but the integration is not there yet. There is enough texture and structure to make this effort age beautifully. With a length on the finish lasting some 55 seconds, the verdict is certainly guilty - guilty of providing a class act Riesling experience!

A little darker aromas, very chalky, powerful, grape fruit, green apples, bright acidity, very long and persistent. So powerful - truly an Ungeheuer! 94-95+

Last bottle of six, and clearly the best. Lovely nose. Structurally integrated with nice acidity and good fatness. Great.

Quite lean and tart at the moment. This needs time. Potential hidden in the electric lemon juice.

Great Riesling with piercing acidity. It was a little too warm and may merit a higher score if cooler.
