Double blind. My note says "very shut down", and my recollection is that while this felt dark and tannic, it really was offering very little. Not in a happy place at the moment.

Opened two hours serving. Candied fruit, red cherry, and spice. Slightly modern on the nose but classic palate which makes me call Hudelot Noellat in blind, knowing the theme is VR. Delicate and linear.

Dinner at Ma Cuisine (Ma Cuisine - Beaune): Red cherry and berry throughout with charmingly Vosne-styled Asian five spice. Good weight, clearly better length and balance. Much better now vs when tasted shortly after release.

Wow, this vintage is a hidden gem. Drank over 2h in a large Zalto glass. Very good density for a 2013, structured like many 2013 but not with drying, rough and over-extracted tannins. Elegant mouth feel, aristocratic with game, mint, red fruit, earth. This will be a winner and will surprise many who still think 2013 is bad in Burgundy (just because it was the worst in 25 years in Bordeaux). However, do not open this before 2023 to let it soften and foremost, let the tertiary aromatics emerge. It will be a wonderful, elegant Burgundy.

Served blind, I had thought this was either a Chambolle, or a more elegantly-styled Gevrey. Red-berries and flowers on the nose, with a very red-fruited palate that has a tinge of earth and great minerality. Didn't discern any of the tell-tale Vosne spice even after some time in the glass. In any case, a very good wine! Out of theme (top village wines) though, but who cares...

Domaine Chicago party: A very easy-going young red Burgundy. Very pretty, I found this bottle a little bit more integrated than the last time I had it. Fresh, with deliciously juicy red fruit. This was missing a bit of Vosne spice this time. Fortunately, I've still got quite a few more, but I really ought to stop killing these so young.

HDH Burgundy Auction; 4/1/2016-4/2/2016 (Chicago, IL): Lovely, lovely nose, with light fruit and floral notes, as well as some discernible oak spice as well as some Vosne spice behind it. The palate, though, is not as stunning as the nose, and this shows a bit of astringency behind the lovely tart fruit and spice flavours. The oak is still poking through, and without doubt, this needs more than a bit of time to smooth over the rough edges.

Like other 13 Noellat that I have tried, this one was dominated by dark fruits on the nose. The silkiness and elegance of Noellat was well displayed in this wine. It will take at least 5 more years for the wine to reveal itself. Although the wine was tight, it already showed some hints of its mult-layer palate with a sweet aftertaste. 91-92 today, but I think the potential is there to become 93-94 if you give it more time.

Once again Hudelot-Noellat have produced a lovely Suchots. It's elegant with rich fruit flavours, fresh and complex. Good positive finish as well. Never a blockbuster, but as usual a sensual delight. Estimated maturity: From 2020

Classy nose again here - dark, exotic and seductive; builds to a lovely spread of flavours on the palate (peacocks tail). Fine tannins. Excellent. 91-94

La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Walk around tasting. Red cherry and berry, starting to show faint signs that it is starting to mature with earth and black truffle. Elegant with good length, good enough weight. Good now.

La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. A small step up from the NSG Murgers with plenty of spice-driven similarities. More black vs red fruit with good concentration, but more emphasis on elegance than power. Hold to 2020-.
