Decanted for 1.5h. Initially, some significant VA which mostly blew off. Then aromas of roasted game meats, tart plums, earth, olives, herbs. Palate flavors follows the aromas with the addition of blackberries and moderate tannins on the midpalate. Excellent acids with mid-full weight body. Went nicely with a pan-seared ribeye. No rush to open the next bottle.

The other notes below must have been faulty bottles. This is full, powerful, complex wine just entering it's prime drinking window. Much more dense and less floral than the Du Plessy indeed, but brooding and full of earthy notes that only show with an hour in the pot.

The fruit lacks freshness and has become somewhat dry and bitter; reminiscent of elderberries. This may have been better when fresher, but it does not excite at present.

Library Bistro Offline (Seattle, WA, USA): What a nose! Medicinal, scorched earth, meaty, and with time some white pepper. On the palate this is massive, tannic, with smoked meat and spiciness. The finish is spicy although the tannins are a bit drying. This seemed like a wine that needs some time to settle down, but wow what a monster Syrah!

Much more firm than the Plessy, and perhaps disjointed? Maybe an odd bottle, but I don't this is going to improve before it goes downhill.

something went very wrong there. VA, greenness,... Not sure if it's a wrong bottle or just a wrong wine...

Mature, somewhat farmyardy nose and a slightly sludgy taste on the palate; good intensity and length but this is not the wine to make me love Syrah.
