PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Flower” day): Pale ruby core with a bricking rim.
Unfront, unique nose of smoke and ‘(un)mistakable vosne’ spices, sweet herbal, medicinal plant and aged dark tea leaves that is very interesting. With some time in glass more and more elegant red berry fruits. Evolving nose by the minute.
The pedigree really shows on the palate - racy acids and minerality with good level of flavour complexity - More red fruits on the palate too. Weightless yet very intense and focused. Silky tannins, clean finish with good tension.
Feels very young for a wine already 14 years of age indeed and very special wine this is. I still see 5-8 years ahead of this given the acidity, tannins and flavour balance. 94-95 points.
4 hours upon opening (“Leaf” day): Even better integration with deeper nose still. But it is also clear that (while this is certainly not a crime to drink now) this would probably need another 5-8 years to reach the point of maturity that I personally most enjoy. Retain at 94-95 points for now.

A tale of two wines here: aromatics and palate. The former: starts out (PnP) with pronounced pickle-ish notes -- very dill. Time in glass does this many favors; the aromatics then tend towards molasses. Palate an entirely different story. Great acidity throughout; fruit clean, though a (no doubt psychologically-informed) herbal/vegetal note coming through here and there. A very mixed review, to be sure, but a potential re-buy if the price is right, because it packs variety and intrigue. Now + 5 years seems right for it, but its hard to call the right window as there is no upside obviously inherent.

Souper chez Christophe Cardonna: Un vin parfumé, très élégant, aérien (j'étais à Chambolle), subtil et raffiné. C'est d'un charme fou, d'une qualité incroyable pour le millésime 2004. 93 pts

Served blind. I had no idea what this could be from the nose, although it was obvious from the first sip that this was Burgundy. Definitely some '04 herbal character aromatically but good fruit and spice on the palate. Tasty.

Tasting this wine blind, the 2004 vintage never crossed my mind as a possibility. Only after it was revealed did I pick up on a faint herbal aroma. Power of suggestion, perhaps? Nice acidity and good weight.

Tasted blind. Apparently opened 12 hours before serving. I originally guessed something from 2008 as there was this slight stemminess to the wine on the palate. But there was a copious amount of bright red fruit. Slightly clipped on the finish, but it was a very tasty drink on the mid palate as the flavors really flow on the palate. Would not have guessed 04.

Opened 12 hours prior. Served blind. An herbal quality to the bouquet but the palate was fine with spice and fruit. Smooth, no harshness or bitter quality.

WOTD consensus from the 2004 tasting, 3 NSG 1er cru, 3 Chambertins. Very soft and approachable compared to the other 2 Chambertins. Excellent finish, very good mid palate.

Acidity, bouquet and flavor are comparable to the 08 Oregon Pinot's we drank this week. The A to Z(pan Oregon 65,00cs), and Lange(Willamette Valley). The femininity earns it a slightly better score. However awful QPR. Will a few more years in the cellar bring forth the nuances???

On est conquis par ce vin superbe, fruits, fleurs, mais plus terrien que l'Echezeaux. Plus fruits noirs et bleus (myrtille), des notes de violette, mais aussi quelques notes animales. Puissance dans la finesse, plus velours que soie.

Mid-brick/garnet; earthy, animal, herbaceous nose; mid-body, balanced; tight tannins; a little short on the fruit at this tasting; opens with air.
