Pop and pour. Goldish with a slight greenish tint. Nose of stone fruits, mango, vanilla and saline. Meyer lemon, tropical fruit and custard on the palate. Another instance of a great bottle rather than a necessarily great wine. I’ve had eight of these and this was the best by far. Still life in these, but who knows what’s left?

I have been drinking the 2013 and 2014 Porter Bass Chardonnays within the same week lately (not side by side!) and I find the 2013 better. It is interesting to compare these, as the 2013 was quite lean at first release, and the 2014 more approachable but in the long run this has been better for the 2013. The 2014 is a bit softer and blowsier in comparison while the 2013 retains some edge while having filled out over the years.

Approachable and delicious. Bright, taut, with Meyer lemon, kumquat, and white flowers. This still needs a decant before drinking to give it air, and while very good with our roasted cod, I suspect the piercing sharpness would do well with a fatter dish like chicken or pork.

Outstanding. It’s been kept at 55 degrees since made. Lemon, good acid, golden, mouth coating, long finish. Chablis-like except for a touch more fruit. This is such a beautiful wine in a good place. Did not require much more than a hour of air. No decant. No sediment.

Deserted island these are the Chardonnay’s I’m bringing with me. Pale Golden yellow. Aromas of ripe pineapple, stone fruits, straw bales, fresh vanilla bean, and sea breeze. The palate is smooth, not heavy yet not light either. Waves of meyer lemon, zest, tropical fruit and custard. Absolute dynamite wines.

Consistent with previous bottles and perhaps even a touch more layered. Aromas of apple, pear, citrus, marshmallow, a bit of toasty oak and marzipan. Most of that all comes through on the palate with an underlying streak of minerality and crushed rocks. So balanced. Long finish. Spectacular bottle of chardonnay.

Apple and lemon, hints of mineral underneath. Drips with lemony citrus on the palate. Killer with Ernesto’s lemon caper walleye (mine) and even works with his applewood smoked halibut dish (Domino’s).

In a delicious spot right now. A bit reduced but it has an otherwise open knit structure with pear drop candy, green apple, and vanilla birthday cake. Great texture and acidity. I’m pretty happy with how this has developed.

I haven’t had a Ceritas Chard this old and it is very different than a younger one. Pretty, but subtle, aromatics. Pear, minerals, and hazelnut on the palate with a note of lime on the lengthy finish. Complex and Burgundian.

This was tasted next to the 2015. The 13 was slightly lighter in color. Not as much acidity as the 15, but still a lovely wine. More integrated and subtle, with softer edges than the 15. These are such lovely wines -- very atypical style in my experience compared to many/most other CA chardonnays.

Faint nose of pineapple, butter and lemon. Taut, lean body but more depth than a year ago. Great flavors, just need more development. Drinks very well with food, such as petrale sole with lemon butter. Very very good.

Lemon, apple and pear notes lead the way. A touch of baked bread is on the finish. The minerality has softened a bit but is still present in a good way. Good texture and depth. This wine is entering the perfect drinking window.

Ceritas open house (The Morris, SF): Funky nose - mushroom, green citrus, slight crushed rock reduction. Hints of marshmallow (malo? lees?). Beautiful fresh palate with density and length. Finish is citrus, mushroom, rocks, mineral notes. I’d blind this as a Premier Cru Chablis.

Nice wine that succeeds in achieving structure and minerality, but I have to say relativity can play tricks on you. It did way better in a pure US battle some weeks ago than here where it was alongside Ramonet, Leflaive and Fieuzal. That proved to be too hard a companionship

Crisp, mineral, lemon with floral. Light yellow. Lots of acid and brightness but good flavors developing. Needs way more time but promising. Much better than the last AG review of 88 would indicate. And what is with that AG review? A year earlier this was 92-94 and now it is an 88. Why should I listen to anything he has to say about this? Despite his latest comments, this wine is certainly not "soft and easy going".
Crisp and focused, mineral and acid over a lush bed of underlying fruit. Medium bodied with a lingering finish. Last of the '13s; glad the '14s are coming next week. Porter-Bass is consistently a favorite. Classic Rock at its best.

Lemon, sea spray and wet stone on the nose. Palate was light and refreshing. Clean and crisp with a drop in flavor on the finish. Palate gained some weight and flavor on the mid palate after bottle had been opened for 2 hours. Should improve in another year or two and gain some depth.

Light in color- pale lemon. Day 1 tasting notes w/ instant decant pourer. Locked down aromatically- showing some citrus oil, butterscotch spice and hints of white florals. Much more open on the palate, with nice notes of orange zest and red apple skin fruit- both bright and rich. Secondary depth showing hazelnut, spice, and slate-minerality. Nice acidity, good mid-palate density, silky palate-feel, and broad-shouldered structure. Plenty of depth on the finish. Needs a little time. Score will rise when the nose fills back in.

Pale yellow color. Killer nose of lemon, green apple, marzipan, chalk dust and a hint of toasted hazelnut. Just lovely to smell this wine. Similar flavors on the palate with citrus and tart apple notes along with some strong mineral notes and just a touch of oak. Medium+ to high acidity with excellent balance and a crisp mouthfeel and long finish. Fantastic wine.

This is right up there with the best young California Chardonnays I have had, intoxicating nose of honey crisp apple, pears, lemon, refined saline crushed rocks. With a transparent, robust, fresh palate with a lingering delicate mineral filled finish

A bit tight at first. Stone and lemon on the nose. Palate is similar, with more lemon curd, slate, honeysuckle, tart crab apple, and some nice strong acidity. With time this opens up and becomes even more complex.
Day 2. Slightly more open. Slightly more tart lemon than tart apple on the palate, with some creaminess, white flowers, cotton candy, and ocean spray making an appearance. Lovely acidity coats the mouth, brightens the flavors, and sustains a wonderful finish. This still seems young and lively. I do not have much experience with high end white burgundies, and a very limited experience with high end white domestic chardonnays, but this seems like a wine that could benefit from some more time in the bottle – at least 3-4 years if not more.

Bright and racy- notes of lemon, chalk and minerals with a subtle floral component underneath. Does not have the toasty quality I remember in the 2012 vintage. Flavors of citrus, mineral and oyster shell with a decent finish, though it is lean, bordering on austere. I prefer the richness of the '12 to this. Someone else described this as buttery so perhaps I am just off tonight- will need to open another soon.
