I had this at a Bordeaux and pizza event and this was my favorite of the younger wines and probably one of the best matches with a casual pizza dinner. Very fresh and fruity, great structure and long finish. Will get much better with a few more years and in this case would have benefited from some more air time, but this was surprisingly drinkable now. Thanks for bringing this one Winedog1!

Well balanced. Very smooth. Fresh. Fruity. Approachable. Drinkable. Not tannic. Limited notes due to tasting environment. Approximately 20 other Bordeaux wines roughly the same price opened. This was fourth to sixth in the ranking, with a 2005 Monbousquet winning the crown easily. I am now eyeing the 2019 Monbousquet as a result. Originally a 94, but revised downward to a 93.

highly perfumed nose with spice at the forefront , the palate is long and fresh but not fruity, quite dry and a little watery definitely lacking in fruit but the nose is gorgeous with dark fruit and spice wafting from the glass - my first ever taste of a pavie Maquin , I’m interested to see how other vintages compare
I am not a right-bank fan - or put it this way - I am not experienced yet but this one was a beauty. 2014 Bordeaux from the left bank have this striking watery taste and feeling on your palate, which was not the case with the Pavie Macquin. Nice fruity notes with perfectly balanced tannins, dancing the tango with the acidity made this wine a perfect pleasure yesterday evening. Finish was long, but not extraordinary. Complexity was there but not outstanding, which made it an enjoyable wine for every palate imho. Just entered the drinking window, had it popped 30 minutes before pouring it in our glasses - amazing. Definitely going to add some to my cellar.

Decanted and drank over two days. Full body, minimal fading at the rim. A bit closed the first hour and then began opening at 90-120 minutes. Blackberry and creosote on the nose (after two hours decanting and even more on day 2). On the plalate, big black fruit, some creosote, wet rocks, medium-high acidity, medium slightly drying tannin, oak is well-integrated and certainly not prominent. Here seems to be yet another 2014 telling the story of the terroir from a producer that typically costs more for other vintages. Ready now, I am hoping the acidity declines a bit in another couple years revealing even more of what is underneath.

I love this wine but it needs a good 2-3 hour decant to show itself. Then a medium-bodied St. Emilion with smoky blackberry fruit and tobacco notes and already a beautiful silky, layered texture. The finish is luscious and sappy with mouth-watering acidity and excellent mineral lift. The tannins are still firm and grippy so there is more to come here but I'm not sure if I can wait. 93+

My bottle seems to be shut down. Very little fruit on the nose, maybe cranberry oak and cedar, a hint of rose petals, and an unpleasant hint of sourness; last night it took 5 hours for cherry and chocolate tannins to integrate with a hint of spice, then it was quite palatable. Day 2 I thought might be better but it's been over two hours in the glass and on the palate its cranberry and tart cherry, a hint of espresso and earth with a bit of spice and an borderline unpleasant sourness on the finish--it's still not integrated. I suspect in an hour this will be worth drinking but wow. Id wait a while before trying another bottle.
UPDATE: I think the bottle is off.

What I love about the '14 vintage in Bordeaux is that the wines are naturally restrained so as they age they really show the terroir without excessive ripeness or excessive anything. This wine is just fabulous and it shows good power and depth with a taut, minerally finish and great flavors of bitter chocolate, truffles and lifted acidity. So well balanced and drinking beautifully already but should still improve over the medium-term. What a combo with Osso Bucco. 93+
A very good Bordeaux. Not big and dense but very precise, great balance leaning towards a feminine spectrum of red fruits, floral, lots of great stuff expressed in this bottle. I’ve found that not only 2014 was a great white burgundy year but I’m really impressed how both red 2014 Bordeaux and Burgundy have developed over these years. This bottle is to me a great value. 1 hr decant, drank over an hour and last glass was the best.

Killer showing on the part of this wine - believe it’s about 80% Merlot. This has some real classic right bank character going on. Red clay, but dark black fruit, a little inverted and backward today, yet the nose is really there, the concentration is fine, the acidity is there, the tannins are firm…. All the bones of a wine ready to go the distance.

Decanted. Feminine wine. Beautiful floral nose; perfume. Earth. Definitely some of that Bordeaux tartness. Still really smooth though. A touch of graphite on the finish about three hours into the decant. A very long finish. Solid wine. Fantastic with food. Hold for now.

PnP that opened nicely at the 90 minute mark. Rich, with good balance and notable persistence. Elegant dark fruits, good soil/place notes after fully open. Still, I'd like to revisit this in another 4-5 years at a minimum even if many palates will enjoy where it is today. Good+ value. HOLD. highly recommended
Showing better than the bottle from three years ago, this has great stuffing though still a bit backward and needs more time. There is an oyster shell component. Overall, this is very similar in style to the highly-rated '15, but the '15 is more attractive and approachable. A bit better on the 2nd day, though still felt very primary and backward.

Took a few hours to open a bit, but in reality this is at least 2-3 years away from hitting its stride. Still deliciously complex now, with primary notes of baking chocolate, tart blackberry, and plum. Hints of tobacco, smoke and light oak weave in late, and linger on the long finish. The potential here is massive if you can be patient.

Dark berry, plum, vanilla, spice, and hints of prune. This started a bit rough but came together after about five hours. The tannins are firm but smooth and the acidity helps keep the dark fruit together.
The hints of prune are a negative for me, but otherwise it’s a nice merlot.

A 3-hour decant really makes a difference here as this wine is still young but showing beautifully with air. The nose is filled with notes of smoky bitter chocolate and graphite minerals. On the palate, it's layered already but with a strong spine of acidity to balance out the ripe dark fruits. The finish is loaded with graphite minerals and a classic limestone grip along with notes of bitter chocolate and dark spices. Really needs several more years to fully integrate but really hard to resist now. 93+

Would not normally drink this so young but found it on a restaurant list for relatively good value. It drank so nicely straight out of the bottle, it was a great surprise. Rich fruit, mineral and acid, surprisingly smooth for its age. This makes me want to experiment with the ‘16s in my cellar that I have been trying to ignore.
Bordeaux dinner (Studio Neon): Rich, ripe, a little herbaceous underpin to plums tending to slight prune, a little chalkiness, cream, chocolate. And the palate is more of the same, dense, rich, silky though slightly chalky textured tannins has a chocolate dusting to them. Hmm.

This Chateau has been making great wine over the past decade and the ‘14 is no exception. Rich and ripe with deep blackberry fruit but excellent fresh acidity underneath. The finish is taut and limestone minerally with excellent intensity and grip. I love the juxtaposition of the exotic ripe fruit and the taut, chalky finish. Bold but surprisingly drinkable now with a charred piece of meat and a good decant. 93+

This is a good example of an approachable outstanding young wine to pick from a restaurant list. It is easier to take advantage of a mature wine at home, while it is hard to find a nice QPR bottle outside. If you wanna pick a 2009 or 2010 Bordeaux, you may have to pay an exorbitant sum. So you better take a look at 2014 or 2015. This is a jewel in that case. If you are lucky enough to have it at home, you may want to keep it for another 3-5 years. If you find it at a restaurant, it is a must to enjoy now, considering its price and quality.

Aerated each glass like a mad demon upon bottle opening; the first bottle was so good (shared with 2 other people) that we immediately opened the second. Probably one of the best QPRs of the vintage, with intense chocolate and dark fruit flavors, some leather, spice, grippy tannins, and a medium-long finish. Approachable now, but can see it developing nicely (rounding out tannins) over the next 5 years.
Tried to decant as long as possible though maybe got 2 hours. not even close to enough for this right now. tight tight tight. nose almost non existent. dry. a bit astringent now. darker fruit spectrum. hopeful for the future.

This is a beautiful young St. Emilion with delicious flavors of black fruits, chocolate and minerals acompanied by the perfect amount of fresh acidity. Finishes with substantial but very supple tannins making it drinkable now with food. A gorgeous wine that will drink beautifully throughout its life. I really like having ‘14’s in the cellar to drink sooner while waiting for the ‘15’s and ‘16’s to mature. Really, really superb. 93+

45 minute decant. Deep purple. 84% merlot dominated Bordeaux blend. Big nose of blackberry, blueberry and dandelion with a pretty strong alcohol aroma (moreso than the stated 14.5%). Flavors are similar but muted with heavy tannic dryness giving it a somewhat chalky slate finish. Medium bodied with a long finish. Better in a few years. Definitely give a 2hr+ decant if drink now.

Rating is more for potential. While many ‘14 Bordeaux are quite drinkable now, this really needs more time. There’s beautiful concentration and texture, lovely dry tannins, but it’s all so tightly coiled. Give it another five years.

Some writers called 2014 a "difficult year" for Bordeaux -- with 2014 Chateau Pavie Macquin you wouldn't know it. This is easily a QPR winner for 2014 at $55-65 USD. Outshines the QPR of Domaine de Chevalier Rouge and Rauzan-Segla. Picked up 2 cases to enjoy over the 2020s.
At 3 years old it behaves like a toddler - the nose bounces between acting up with huge expressions of fruit, then skulking away leaving nearly nothing. The complexity of its evolution over 3 hours was mesmerizing as each sip revealed new notes and jettisoned old ones, only to revisit them again later. Remarkably variable, and always enjoyable. Finally settled into itself after 3 hours.
Abundance of ripe dark fruit, sweet creaminess, spice, limestone, almond, smoke, hints of cedar box, leather. Mid-length finish. Mouth-coating tannins, not grippy. The balance is good enough to enjoy today, and will become superb in 2020 or so.
Day 2, pulled cork and poured a glass - still singing along, now with lush purple fruit on the nose, no signs of bitterness or oxidation.
Day 3, going strong and still so fresh. Wonderful.
Drinks easily today, with the guts to improve 15-20 years cellared. 93-94 in 2017, perhaps 95+ in 2022+.
Highly recommended

Obviously still young but this was a consensus hit at my dinner party over the weekend. Cassis, dark fruit, smooth tannins and a truly enjoyable mouth feel. Nice to drink now but if I procure more bottles I'll wait until next decade at the earliest to give this some time to develop, I think it'll be a real beauty in 5-10 years.

Already showing some maturity in the color, the wine is medium/full bodied, fresh, sweet, and refined, with sweet,, spicy, black raspberry, plum pure cherries, and crushed rocks in the finish. A few years of cellaring, with definitely make this more interesting. Although, this is going to be fun to drink early.

Tasted next to 2014 Beau-Séjour Bécot this also showed good ripeness of fruit, but a bit more restraint and depth on the nose. Dark fruit, tobacco, smoky oak, spices - very fine and dense. On the palate surprisingly spicy with lovely acidity and powerful but ripe tannins. Very long. This will be excellent. 93-94+

An awesome 2014 in the making. Very fresh with good acidity and plenty of structure but it's also loaded with rich black fruits and minerals. Builds to a lovely finish with firm but supple tannins and notes of earth and spices. Silky and long and very fine. 93+

A bit angular and tied up right now. Lay down for a least another year for it to come around the bend.

UGC-Tasting 2014 Amsterdam March 6, 2017-Yes, Job, this is a serious wine with lovely cherries in the bouquet, a charming, even polished taste and a good balance; for midterm drinking.

Amsterdam UGCB Tasting and Winemakers' Dinner (Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky / Café De Klepel): Tasting, brief note. Floral and fragrant, elegant and refined, juicy fruit and cool limestone, very good length.

Absolutely fantastic wine. This has limestone, spice, passion fruit, and bright red fruit notes on the nose. On the palate great depth and balance of fruit tannin and acid, silky tannin that is both lush and structured. A total winner IMO. 94+

Floral, black raspberry and licorice notes open as soon as the liquid hits the glass. The wine feels soft, smooth and supple and there is tension and polish in the finish that tastes as good as it feels. 93-94 Pts
