This has bold primary black cherry, asphalt and smoke. Pure and crystalline cherry fruit is still quite youthful with grainy tannin. Lots of fresh cut florals in the finish. Not quite ready as peak drinking is still 5+ years out.

Cellaraid - Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Vertical; 5/15/2020-5/24/2020 (Delivered to Home): Deep, murky garnet core with browned fading edges, viscous and highly extracted. Nose of purple flowers and savoury stewed meat, even a slight hint of ginseng and blue cheese fungus. High alcohol heat, chewy tannins, and huge underlying power and blackberry intensity, with mint, pepper, paprika, cocoa, and charcuterie. Very long finish which still has a lot of remnant power, with mint and chocolate. A fabulous wine, and I think it’s at its best spot now

Zoom blind tasting #3: Guiseppe Cortese Barbaresco Rabaja vertical (At home): This was not bad, if a bit clumsier than some of the other vintages on show. The nose was superb, with a touch of glycerol in there, but also lovely notes of ripe dark cherries and damson plums, savoury earth and meat, and a little hint of spice and dried flowers drifting around as well. Really attractive. The palate was unfortunately a couple of steps behind that lovely nose, with a slightly disjointed chew of tannins and acidity framing fairly ripe flavours of red cherries and darker berries, earth and spice on a nimd-lengthed finish. This somehow felt a bit flatter and less light on its feet than say the 2004, 2005 and 2006 that we had earlier. Still fairly pleasant, but not fantastic. Not sure this will improve much with time too.

Earthy floral nose. Moderately high tannins and acidity, plum to cherry fruit, with notes of licorice, tar and scorched coffee. Dense and rich, but the fruit is tasting a bit stewed. Past it's prime, or maybe this bottle was not stored all that well.

Aeration decant 1/2 hr. Light garnet. Nose of red cherry, rose, and red berry. Similar fruit runs through the moderate finish and tannins remain. Still enough fruit to last, but really ready to drink. A pleasure, actually.

Opened and poured. Lots of fine sediment. Light to medium body, almost an orange/browning hue. Fascinating nose with many mature and secondary notes of leather, truffle, tobacco, licorice, medicine, fruit paste. Astringent puckering, with lively acidity and decent tannin. Mostly resolved, yet there's enough fruit fade to keep this quite interesting to continue drinking. Better than lat bottle as I remember. Will update more on day two.

Texas Wine School - Wines of Italy Class. Decanted. Classic Barbaresco from an above-average vintage. The color is medium brown. The nose is clean, but exhibiting mostly tertiary aromas, with red fruit, mushroom, bacon, tar, smoke and savory, meaty notes. The palate, however, shows much more fruit and flavor intensity than the nose and shows better after more than 4 hours after the initial decant. The palate is medium to medium (+) in acidity, with medium (+) to high tannins and medium (+) alcohol. Overall, this is one of the better Barbarescos that I have ever had - and probably confirms the existence of a lot of bottle variation. Drink now, as I don't think it is going to get any better.

Texas Wine School, Kings of Italy Class. Decanted. Classic Barbaresco from an above-average vintage. The wide difference in the tasting notes from the last few years is probably attributable to variation in storage conditions. This bottle, which was acquired at auction at Zachy's, was fine, with varietal and age-appropriate aromas and palate. Overall, this Barbaresco is elegant and pleasant, although not particularly memorable. Drink now, as there's really no reason to age it any further.

Clear brick color fading to a clearer rim as expected. Plummy, dried flower and stewed fruit nose. Easily resolved tannins at the outset with plum, some higher toned fruit somewhat lacking in acidity. Finishes with predominately drying tannin/leather and earthiness, tiny amount of fruit - medium-ish finish. This wine is past its prime. I think that people who drank this 5 or 6 years ago were duly rewarded, sadly I did not.

Throws a TON of sediment. Attractive nose has dried flowers, mature red fruits, spice and tar notes. Medium bodied palate has plush, mature fruit and soft acids. Good length. What you see is what you get without a ton of depth or complexity. A solid 2000 Barbaresco.

Wow. This is the real deal. Black truffle, wet tar, basil, flowers, roasted meat and sweet sweet candied cherry fruit. Very elegant and polished. Balanced and silky smooth tannins. What structure. This has the stuff to go the distance, acidity in spades with ample fruit and tannin all in balance. Great another 5 years at least. This is all after decanting this 2-2.5 hours. Give this air and it will come alive. Finish is long with wood smoke, meat, basil, and blackberry. Love this bottle. Drink now to 2020.

Pop and poured, drunk over two hours. The rest will be finished tomorrow.
Light amber ruby. A brooding, darker side to Barbaresco. Rich and wilder, with great depth and earth, but with good fruit, spice, and some cooler almost eucalyptus in the background. While it is open, there is plenty of structure. There is some balsamic umami stuff in the background. Some coarse (for Barbaresco) tannins sneak in on the back end, playing well with the Barbaresco sweetness. More perfume than meaty-savory here. Quite long. This is early peak for me and I wish I had a couple more bottles to follow this for a few more years. 91pts

Tasted with pasta with a quick simple tomato sauce. This 100% Nebbiolo Barbaresco was a beautiful red in color. The nose was cherry and spice and strong and solid. An elegant wine with a strong fairly quick finish full of cherry, smoke, spices and floral notes. A good enjoyable wine.

A number of good CT reviews but I don't get it. It was bricked out of the bottle and with a 2 hour decant went brown with no fruit and only acid and tannins. It was undrinkable. Put back in the bottle and stored it for later to see what happens. A day later the color is back to brick red and the fruit has recoveredNot much of a nose but some floral qualities. The palate has strawberry and raisins, a bit odd. Almoast a port-like edge to an otherwise light, feminine wine. Finish is a little bitter with a tea leaf quality.

Traditional chop suey (that would be the Maine kind - aka goulash) was the fare at a family dinner with this one. Impeccably stored since release, this pours an aged orange/brown/light red. Some sediment. Initial notes before decant: Developed aromas of port, hoisin, marmalade, underbrush, dusty tart cherry. Light body, with lively acidity and complex flavors - tart orange, citrus, cranberry, raspberry. 4 hours after decant, rose petals, plum and aged tobacco notes coming out, and sweeter rounder profile with a more fleshy mouth feel. Complex and more structured, yet on the slightly acidic side. Strong and long finish leaves a lasting impression.

Color is light garnet/brick/rust. Some sediment. Popped and poured. Aromas of dusty nebbiolo with some off-putting earth and mushroom. Benefited from a run through Venturi. Showed best on third day by far! Medium body. Flavors of earth, tar, stones, dark cherry which didn't work too well morphed into very nice red fruit, tobacco, and earth on day three. Very rustic. Interesting juice that rewards patience if you can spread it over multiple days.
very firm; a bit disjointed. the nose shows promise though. decant for 2 hours and maybe your experience will be better than mine (wine was consumed from bottle on opening, on the basis of other tasting notes)

UCD wine group (one year anniversary dinner) (Holger and Shelley's - Denver, CO): Not decanted as it was very expressive on opening. Nose of red fruits, earth, tobacco and spices. Medium-light fruit intensity braced by minerality and finishes with refreshing acidity and lacy tannins. This has a pretty nice, somewhat firm textural quality on the palate with some finesse and medium low complexity. As the evening wore on, this became a little muddied and less defined.

Great wine for inagural dinner at Jaimie's apartment. Not decanted. Seemed quite open in terms of the rush of fruit, eath, tobacco and spices on the nose. Medium-light fruit but richly flavored with noticeable layers. Has a nice minerality and finishes with refreshing acidity and firm (non-obtrusive) tannins. Was great wtih sausage/fennel/onion in roasted acorn squash.

This is very nice and great value Barbaresco -- I really enjoued it. It had many classic Barbaresco qualities like the soft rusty hue, the hints of dirt on the back palate but this one also have nice soft fried fruit and was very well structured.

Last moment choice for Thanksgiving and it turned out to be my favorite. Its light color and restrained fruit allowed it to accompany the turkey and trimmings quite well, but its complexity and impeccable structure and balance allowed it to stand above the food and give me some sensory pleasure at the meal.

Agree with comments that this will likely mature well over the next few years. Still, enjoyable today. Began to open nicely over the 2 1/2 hours we tasted today. Heavy fruit to start, but became increasingly complex. Nice tannins, background of pepper and spice emerged later on. Drank simply with an assortment of hard cheeses (manchengo, piero, etc.) and a bit of fruit and it was a nice match. I've got 4 more and will wait to open them, but this was a good tasting.

<Samplings, Frisco, CO> Light browish red. Reticent nose at first, but with some air/time opened up beautifully to reveal bright strawberry/cherry, tobacco, asian spices, flowers and stones. Palate was medium weight but with a wonderful structure of fine tannins and acidity. The expressive nose coupled with the food freindly, in balance palate made this a delight with the wonderful food we had.

I think it might be even better in a couple of years.
Outstanding wine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent. Particular;y complex and enticing aromas: tar, anise, black cherry and a touch of earth. Palate builds with air and may lack a little oomph, but quite balanced and tasty.

A very nice, soft, but multi-layered wine with black cherry, black berry toasted oak, pencil lead, and an earthy minerality that was very pleasant. Medium body, soft and round as it finishes. Quite good.

Very nice for our first dinner al fresco here in Denver. Lightly colored garnet. Light red fruits as well as tar, licorices and stones. Structure is perfect for enhancing a meal.

Started our with slight tar nose, and dry dusty tannins. Seemed to become a little juicier as it opened up over 3 hour period. Has the ingredients for a floral bouquet but needs more time to integrate and evolve. Good effort 89-91

Light almost copper color. Light body with a nose and palate slightly reminiscent of apples(?). This one needs another year in the bottle.

Opened up with 3-4 hours of air. With some age (and complexity) this could work into the low 90's.
89-90

not open yet, opened far too young it appears. Lack of body when compared to the 1999 and overly fruity. Should be kept at least 5 more years, but buy more soon
