  • Would never peg this for a California zinfandel. Ruby colored, very bright with juicy cherries and raspberries. Barely any noticeable oak so the fruit is just very fresh and pure. A little bit of spice. Medium+ acid, medium tannin and body. Delicious wine and lower alcohol compared to most zins which is great.

  • After dinner bottle. Dark fruit and subtle spice. Medium plus depth. I don’t drink much Zin, so this seemed decent.

  • Dark red in color. 13.6% ABV. Super pure nose of black fruits, baking spices and chalk. Medium to full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Tremendous purity of fruit. Distinctly fresh and light. Blackberry compote, black cherry, white pepper and orange peel on the palate. The finish is perfection. Another great Zinfandel from Limerick Lane Vineyard. Drink over the next 3-5 years.

  • This was outstanding, perhaps the best zin (to my taste) that I've had. Still some ripe red fruit but not overly jammy. And a little spice on the back end but not overdone. As with most Matthiasson's the word that always come to mind is 'fresh'. Love it.

  • Very nice wine. Not "hot" like many Zins. Great with beef. Highly recommend.

  • 13.6% abv. Medium-dark ruby with plus aromatics. On the palate, cherry, black cherry and a nice spice component. Excellent depth and length. Focused, energetic and savory, delicious and distinctive.

  • Dark, purple color. Takes awhile to open up; this is probably a bit too early to be drinking this. That said, after a few hours, there is a lot happening in the glass. Pungent deep purple and blue fruit notes on the nose. Also, some subtle secondary characteristics: baking spices, dessert fruits, cinnamon, potpourri. Good acidity in the mouth, with dark fruits throughout. Also the orange peel and "Christmas" sensations that I think of with good zin. Finishes with dark blue fruits. Great!

  • Light ruby. On the nose that characteristic spicy Zinfandel smell: field grasses, moss, earth, pungent, so hard to describe, and so rare these days. My wife says it is a riparian smell of a shaded place: Steep Ravine trail. On the palate clear dark berry juice with an excellent lacing of acid, a hint of over-ripe berries, like the whole blackberry bush in the sun. A beautiful wine of immense character, a memory of other times. Reminds me of the Zins of my youth. 50 + 17 + 17 + 9.

  • fascinating to drink alongside Bedrock & Carlisle zins from LL from 2013. all 3 totally different styles.

This is reminiscent of a fleury / high-end gamay. Aromatic, light/mid weight, round, more than ample acidity for the fruit, fresh, not much tannin at all, would be nice with a chill on a warm day.

Steve Matthiasson said he wanted the vineyard's young vines for the freshness and lightness... again, very interesting to have this next to two OV versions.

  • Juicy blue fruit from the start, savory herbal notes, a bit of gravel before becoming defined with notes of plum, cherry. Medium plus acid with dusty tannin on the finish to an otherwise creamy texture with notable persistence with enough tension this wasn't the "one glass and I'm done" kinda cloying zin. Delightful.

Day 2, corked and in the fridge. Much more mid palate richness and tending towards a berry with a tangy persistent finish. I preferred it day one where it was a bit more taut. Also, I disagree a bit with the last note about this being tight. This bottle arrived 2 mo ago from the winery and it's roaring from the get go. I'd say that by the end of the bottle it was tailing off a bit.

  • Opened for National Zinfandel Day

Very tight when first opened, this showed mostly tart red fruit and high acidity. After an hour in the glass, and warming up to a more hospitable temperature things started to flesh out very nicely. The fruit turned to ripe red raspberry, while warm herbs and black pepper elements came onto the palate, and the aromatics became much more pronounced, focused on the fruit, dusty earth and pepper. I might have been fooled into thinking this was a cool climate Syrah if it had been served blind.
