Opened and poured. A full bodied, dark pinot, showing smoky notes of the 2008 harvest laced with wildfire essence. Toasty oak...lacking some acidity. A little flabby, but showing classic Kanzler fruits of fruit leather, plummy paste, dates, bruised strawberry, hoisin, boysenberry. Overall a very nice bottle.

Pours dark fir pinot. Nice nose. Attack on the palette is huge though fruit is fading. Mid palette is nice and finish is solid. Very good especially at 12 years old.

Never got around to this vintage when it was younger, and had some concern about its longevity. Not to worry though. The cork was sound and barely stained. The color was proper--nice, transparent red. Rich fruit right at the first sip, shifting to more mature elements with air in the glass. Good job, Kanzler!

Last bottle of 3. Decanted for 1 hour - it has some aromatics but not as much as prior bottles. Palate is still very good, but the loss of some of those nice aromatics has moved the palate away from the rich fruit into more multi layered flavors. Nice to follow the changes.

Opened and poured. This is my first Kanzler family bottle, as I've grown to like the vineyard on the Kosta Browne label. Wlw, the Kanzler Krunch factor is in full effect here, with the grainy tannins, bramble berry, pomegranate, cola, ultra-ripe fruit profile. Jammy, with chocolate as well. Opening with air, gaining more flesh and weight - quite nice - rivaling the KB effort.

This had a wonderful, expressive bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, sassafras, cola, cardamon and baking spice aromas. The palate was rich and layered with flavors that followed the nose.

Accessible immediately upon being opened with good density throughout. Red cherry was the most prominent fruit note, backed with tea, earth, vanilla and light spices. It's fully integrated and smooth with the highpoint coming right in the mid-body of the fruit into the finish. Even though it's more fruit forward than some, its age has given it some balance I suspect it lacked in its youth. Drink it over the next year or so to enjoy it at its peak.

We had this with grilled striped bass on 7/14/15. It had a strong, ripe, and completely beguiling bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, sassafras, cola, cardamon and baking spice aromas. The palate was rich, ripe and tangy with flavors of black cherry, raspberry, cola, cardamon, sassafras, baking spice and minerals.

Red cherry, tea, earth and spices on the nose. Medium to full bodied and ready from the moment the cork was pulled. Very nice soft red cherry upfront, retaining just a hint of brightness and adding in notes of tea, vanilla, earth and spices on the finish. This is absolutely a bigger, more fruit-forward and California style of pinot - you would never mistake it for Oregon or Burgundy. I would've liked a little more complexity in the fruit through the middle. But both of those points made, it's still a very well executed version of its style. It's quite smooth and while the fruit is certainly prominent, there's good structure, especially towards the finish. It has the fruit and structure to last a few more years at this stage, but while it might improve slightly, I don't think it would be enough to justify holding it. I'd drink these over the next year or so to enjoy this wine where it is right now.

My choice for a family Valentines Day Dinner and it did not disappoint. My only complaint would be a muted nose. It made up for it on the palate. It was exquisite with flavor profiles of cherry, cola, tea leaves, and just a hint of raspberry. Outstanding example of an exceptional CA Sonoma Coast pinot. The nose knocked it down two points for me. My only true complaint, it was my one and only bottle. Exceptional quality for the price I paid. Highly recommended and I will seek out more of their recent vintages.

I really enjoyed this final bottle. We haven't been drinking to many "bigger" Cali Pinot's in the last few months and this was a big, muscular Pinot, but everything seemed very nicely balanced. Power and finesse... Teriyaki beef, black fruits with just enough acid on the finish to pair well with the duck confit quesadilla as well as wild mushroom pizza at Table 34. Great wine drinking very well right now that could probably last quite a while longer in the cellar, too bad ours are all gone.

Light crimson in color. 14.8% ABV. Sweet red fruits, earth, cinnamon and tea on the nose. Big, rich and bold. Great mouthfeel and nice acidity. Strawberries, sassafras, cloves and cherries on the palate. Everything I love about Kanzler Vineyard. Super effort from a challenging vintage. Drink over the next 1-3 years.

At Sips w family. Drank very well now. Aromatics got much better after 20 minutes in the glass. No rush to drink my last bottle- should hold for 5+ years with no problem. Not sure if it gets better – but worth a try. Going to buy some 2012's after tasting this.

PnP. This was ready right out of the bottle within 5 minutes. Definitely on the richer side for a Pinot Noir, although there was some nice acidity to give it balance. Decanted 2 hours before first pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Expressive scents of cinnamon black tea, and spice, black cherry, raspberry and cherry cola. Palate: Medium bodied, good balance, spicy red fruit flavors up front with tea and cola flavors towards the back-end. Finish: Lengthy sense raspberry tea and cola. A delicious wine from nose to palate to finish - the complete package.

Hmm, what to say. This has that huge Kanzler fruit/spice/earthly nose that I've come to expect from this vineyards wines. With that being said day 1 this was a little too much alcohol for me on the back end. Without having too much experience with these wines I'm not sure if this is standard for them or not. Day 2 the heat seemed to have subsided and this is a much more balanced complete wine. Day1 there was no way I was buying this years go around. Day 2 I'm totally on the fence. Might be missing out on something special by not buying.

Vinturied into decanter 30 minutes before first pour, consumed over 5 hours. Nose: Expressive scents of cherry cola, smoke, and florals - rose and lavender with a little alcohol heat appearing also. Palate: Great mouth-feel and good balance, nice red fruit up front - cherry and strawberry, cinnamon and Asian spice turns a little overripe towards the back-end. Finish: Lengthy, dominated by sour cherry - not nearly as pleasant as the nose and palate. Overtime the finish mellowed, but at the expense of a diminishing nose and the palate. There is lots of potential here but just not quite hitting on all cylinders yet.

Whoa, Nellie. Incredible, concentrated wine -- rich, pure fruit with some earthy balance. I'm blown away. Wonderfully crafted, intense but not candied. Caveat: I didn't try this bottle with food. I have three to go and will see how they fare with more age and pairings. Drank over a couple days with no variation.

This needs time... Very young but very good. This took about 3 hours to open up and when it did it was very smooth and subtle an elegant pinot that will need about 5 years to really show it's true nature.

Cherry cola and blueberry aromas. Taste of black cherry, as well as some earthy flavors. Too acidic at thsi point, needs to come together a bit more. Give it at least another year, if not a couple more before trying. I could see the rating on this going higher in the future. At the current state, not a great value, though.

This is too good. Not quite as good as the 2007 but likely because it is too young. Give this wine 5 years and it will SING! patience is the hardest part with this wine

Absolutely wonderful. A consistent winner from a stellar grower and producer of unbelievable Sonoma Pinot. Big, bold and rich. Black and red cherry and big ripe plum taste with a super long finish. I'd almost say it's as good as the 2007. This one is a complete winner.

Pulled the cork and poured. At first, I was nervous. this had a manure/barn/cow chip nose mixed with spice and minerals. n the mouth, wonderful Indian spices, cloves, cinnamon, and a nice cranberry punch in the mid-palate. A touch of licorice and some heat on the finish. This needs at least a few more months rest. Slight disjointed but with good layers of fruit, spice and acidity.

Nose: Tree sap, maple syrup, baking spices, potpourri, orange peel, cherries, blackberries. Palate: Brown sugar, molasses, and baking spices on the attack. Root beer, sappy syrup, noticeable tannins on the mid-palate. There is scant acidity to prop this pinot up and it is defined by its big, sappy, syrupy sugar. I want to like the 2008 as much as the 2007, but this wine is just too fat and I don't see enough acidity to balance things out with some bottle age. Even if you like big, rich, syrupy pinot, this one still came off as overbearing to me.
Popped and poured. Dark ruby red in color. Initially, the wine was very tight with earth and tart red fruits on the nose and palate. Held most of the wine for day 2, and the extra air time really transformed this wine. The nose became exotic with clove, cinnamon and savory spice scents - overall, reminiscent of Chinese five spice. The palate became more expansive and showed off the spices with cherry, forest floor, raspberry and hints of plums. Some heat was noticeable on the palate and finish but was not too distracting. Held a little for day 3, and this was still drinking well. While fun to drink now, anticipate this one will improve nicely over the next couple of years.

Really enjoyable. Restaurant purchase, so no formal note. Smooth but with Sonoma Coast elegance. At Bistro des Copains in Occidental, CA. $80.

This needs time... Very young but very good. This took about 3 hours to open up and when it did it was very smooth and subtle an elegant pinot that will need about 5 years to really show it's true nature.

NC Cindy Offline w/ WIM and SCKen (WineKnurd's House, Durham NC): Popped & poured; nyquil and burn, severely unbalanced alcohol and lacked anything to distinguish it as a wine, not just a varietal, from a vodka cranberry or sea breeze. Overall Rating: D.

Exceptional. Maybe a little to young -- could use another year in the bottle but shows great balance and fullness. Love it.

Just delicious. Cherry cola : the flavor of cherry is quite pronounced, and there is an effervescent dance on the tounge after you take your first few sips. Kosta Brown in style.

The nose is muted at first. After 15 minutes of decanting the wine opens up. Very french burgundy in style. I liked it a lot.
