Lovely mature barolo. Fairly light colour, browning on the rim. Classic mushroomy/tertiary flavours, but with enough remnants of fruit to keep it fresh. Decent acidity with a hint of tannin, particularly on the finish. I'd say no massive rush to drink up, but don't leave it too long.

Wonderful colors in the glass and some mature tones on the rim. Beautiful dark fruits, integrated and together on the nose. Floral, roses, medium bodied, long, very very well balanced and a wine that I think it drinking in the peak even if this can cellar for many many years to come. A really great wine that is a fantastic example of what you can get when cellaring for 10 years.

The first sip on pop 'n pour had a ton of sour, tart fruit so much as to be off-putting. But no matter, this is a wine that we all should know needs a decant. With time in the glass and/or decanter, this wine put on deeper, riper, fruit aromas and flavors. There is also black truffle on the nose and the finish has a great core of minerality. The wine is even better on day 2. This is surprisingly well held together for an entry-level 2012 Barolo. Can be enjoyed now with a 4-6 hour decant or can be cellared further.

Butter-fried chanterelles on grilled Italian country bread, with buratta as a base. Renato Ratti's Marcenasco 2012 is in a wonderful phase right now, tannins and acidity in harmony, slightly darker fruit, like dark cherry, so clear tobacco and anistones. Had guessed 2015, 2016 considering tannins and acidity, will last many more years. Perfect match tonight. Drink or hold.

Wow! Such a treat! Sour cherries, flower shop, spices, leather, dirt. High acid and tannins, but mouthwatering effects win and the bottle is gone way to quick. “Elegant, intense, well-made” Edit: stored last small glass infridhe overnight (in closed bottle, but no Argon or similar). That sample was maybe even better. Lots of years left in this 2012 barolo (- and with the nice quality “Diam 10” cork, I do not fear it will go bad soon.

Decanted first an hour before pouring for cheese plate and then a a Lasagna dinner. It poured a rich garnet with long legs. Subtle aromas of plum and liquorice were present but not overpowering. Flavors of bing cherry, leather and a hint of coffee. Well balanced with sharp tannins.continued to soften and open as the summer night evolved. Beautiful wine with a long finish… highly recommend

Very tasty Barolo in a good spot with a couple of hours decant. Cherries and dark berriess with liquirice and tar. 2012 is such a generous vintage that never seem to have shut down. Great intensity and decent length. Easy to like.

Really good. What I want (and expect) in a good Barolo. Nose is really rich and inviting (and has staying power, if anything, better yet 2 h+ opened). Dark fruits for sure, but more, a layer of perfume on top. Colour is somewhat lighter red, long legs. Palate again with typicity. Strong, but not too strong, tannins, fresh acidity, a wide fruit spectrum that matches up with the nose in beautiful fashion. Perfect match with US sirloin steak and sauce Bearnaise. This is the first bottle I am having of this wine, but seems to me this has now reached its window. A real treat.

Return to Piemonte!; 11/25/2021-12/4/2021 (Castello di Sinio, Alba, other various locations): It is a very easy debate if this or the 2015 is the winner of the vertical (and horizontal in the sense of the 2015). Not for me. It’s more fruity liquor than actual fruit - tons of raspberries perhaps having time to age in. Higher tannin again (a thing with this producer). Still it has freshness (aka acidity). To me it’s not the 2015, but it is still nice.

Garnet red leaning towards brick red/brown. Cherries, Rose petals and sandalwood on the nose. Very grippy tannins. For sure a wine requiring food. Paired very well with lamb, risotto and a reduced red wine jus.

Generous nose of cherries, bitter almonds and rose hips. Suave. Nose hands it over to the palate seamlessly- very well integrated and I think this is drinking alright now. Discreet tertiary aromas - earth. Less VA than what I can recall from previous bottles.

Compared to Albe Vajra 2012 and 2013. This wine has more power than the 2012 Vajra and is less elegant than the 2013 Vajra. Hard not to like but it is a standard affair. Rose hip, menthol, some licorice and good punch of cherries. Opened for one week: this is much better, so much so that I am looking forward to the next bottle in a couple of years

PnP - initially tight nose. Improves after a few hours. There is dried rosehip-powder and licorice on the palate. No abundance of fruit but not thin. Silky tannins. I wonder how this will age. No tertiary hints yet but will they develop? The fact that you gain huge amounts nose and palate by giving it air makes me believe this could age alright.

Day two: powerful nose with almost heady fortified wine-ish expression. The usual nail-polish remover but maybe this time I found a aromatic expression too. Interesting. This I have been wondering if it would ever develop. Like a much older Barolo Riserva I had a few weeks back. Maturity may benefit this wine.

Nebbiolo. Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo. Opaque Red Garnett color. Intense cool (almost menthol), lovely banana/peach aroma. An intense initial taste -- this wine needs to sit for a bit. A full-body, earthy/dusty oak with a hint of spice/pepper and a nice, slightly tart/acidic finish. Not as fruit forward as its nose. The tannin is finely course and a rounded - the way I like tannin. I like it; I like it's bigness and complexity. I'll write another review in a second paragraph after the wine sit for a bit.
Apparently, I have no patience for decanting. I did leave the open for a couple hours and in the glass for 10 minutes -- and swirling a bit. The nose is still has a Peach / Banana with a medicinal menthol. Much softer is the fruit and a med-full body pleasant citrus and oak. I like the big acidity with the medium/full tannin.

Pretty nose of bruised rose petals, tar, earth and macerated cherries. Color is dark with burnt umber edges. Palate shows fine delineation between fruits and structure with some purity and elegance; deep black cherries and sassafras with notes of tar, licorice and underbrush. Beautifully textured with a hint of dryness from mid-palate on, this has some chewy tannin and fantastic acidity. Finish reintroduces all that came before it just lesser version, more softer and understated. I also sense a bit of orange rind now. This is just a beautiful, albeit young Barolo that I will purchase more of and impress my friends that think I am clueless when it comes to Italian wines. With this one, I actually do have a clue.

Winewankers BYO; 1/7/2017-1/8/2017 (Finna): A very good, young Barolo. The producer is one of the modernists in Barolo. Maroon red color. Tannins keeps the wine up and is not unpleasant.

On the nose, I found dried spices, a hint of confectionary dusting of brown sugar and contrasting notes of tart cherry. On the palate, soft, silky textures with pure red and blue fruit splashed against the senses, made fresh by lively acidity. The easy-to-like Marcenasco finished long and spicy with zesty cherry tones and mouthwatering acidity.
