  • Birthday celebration part 2: So vibrant that I thought this was a strong vintage 80s left-bank from 89 or 90. Some greenness but the vibrant, savoury fruit dominated. Tertiary, balsamic notes emerged after a couple of hours.

  • What a wonderful way to begin a 40th anniversary weekend. In the 21st Century, is there anything that lasts 40 months let alone 40 years?

The '76 Lynch Bages has stood the test of time as has our marriage. Still supple, round and full with light tones of cherry, leather and smoked wood. Certainly less complex than in its youth but isn't that true of any relationship? A marvel for its age...

  • Beautiful mature colour, brick red with mahogany hue. It has blackcurrant, smoky, meaty and savoury nose. Fantastic bodied although it has mellow down, showing blackcurrant and tobacco with a drying finish. Very good and enjoyable.

  • Amazingly fresh, dont know how much longer it has but I wouldn't worry too much about holding on to it for some time.

  • Was still fine to drink. Beginning to reach the border, however.

  • 1976 Lynch Bages (Frankrijk, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac) Kleur: Oranjebruin. Aroma / bouquet: Vrij gesloten, niet heel aansprekend. Mint, chocolade, stoffig. Beetje mokka. Kaarsvet. Port-achtig. Smaak / Afdronk: Smaak is nog voldoende krachtig en al zeker krachtiger dan de geur doet vermoeden, behoorlijk krachtige zuren, krachtige maar ronde tannines. Veel lengte. Beetje branderig. Algemeen / potentieel: Over de top. Nog wel interessant. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 8 + Smaak / Afdronk: 10 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 80/100

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 9 + Smaak / Afdronk: 12 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 83

  • a little fickle. fades in and out. not spoiled but does not have depth or breadth. typical lynch but not among the best. 1978 is holding up much better and has more to offer.

  • Chose a 1976 Chateau Lynch Bages to accompany our entree of medium rare filet of beef tenderloin. This wine is likely long past its prime, but I wanted to use some of it up.
Considerable sediment in the wine and our waiter at the golf club decanted it. Good high fill, and the long 2 1/4" cork was extracted in good condition. Medium dark garnet colour; offered up a most pleasing bouquet of cassis, cedar, nutmeg spice, and a medley of potpourri - quite deep and penetrating; elegant and supple on the palate, with medium full body; good harmony of flavours - dark cherry, some ripe blue plum, but predominantly sweet black currant jam, and a slight drying edge developing toward the end of this; tannins are pretty well resolved and the wine shows a good acid level in the frame; lingering finish, where the flavours carry through. Clearly past its peak of maturity, but I couldn't say how long. It's nevertheless an attractive wine, and I should drink up the remaining bottles over the next year. This wasn't the most profound vintage, but this wine displays some good character, even though it's lighter styled than wines from some of Bordeaux' better vintages.
