John's 70th B-Day Blowout (Sandy Springs, GA): Mine; light garnet deep maroon core with lighter rim; fig, classic, no mistaking this one, raspberry, very solid, liquor soaked cherries, light garrigue, some tea; still good structure, stewed cherry and raspberry, herbs de Provence, great balance; so unevolved I was a little disappointed, after reveal it was a revelation but before it almost seemed pedestrian; hate to say it but the bottle we had needed more time, others guessed 2005.

Dark and large. Serious secondary characteristics. Lots of herbs and spices. Great texture. This can go for several more decades. Fabulous CDP. This rocked hard with braised short ribs.

Limpid garnet (burgundian); truffle, liquorice and herbs with an underlay of dark fruits and far background of treacle; medium bodied but smooth and rich (alcoholic?) body; long and dry finish. Classy, seamless.

Wow was this fantastic...we had grilled cheese night with mushrooms, raclette and heirloom tomatos and the second with fontina, arugala, truffled cheese and prosciuttos...
Rich fruit, provencal herbs, slightly low acid but drinking absolutely perfectly....licorice...the best Janasse VV I have had..

Rhone Wine Blind Tasting (Virginia): $30 retail on release. Well-delineated, fresh fruit - black cherry/raspberry. Still very primary. Fairly lush texture. Amazingly, this wine has seen a couple totally different forms, IMO: First tasted at the domaine in March of '97 - no notes, but I left impressed and bought a case+. First bottle in Oct. '98 - tight, extremely closed / tannic. It was still deep and brooding, but a little less austere, when opened in a line-up of about fifteen '95 CNPs in Jan. of 2000. Finally coming around, but still structured and traditional, in the Fall of '03. And now... fruit driven and primary?? I'm very surprised. It was a very enjoyable bottle - don't get me wrong - but it came across as more modern this time around. Ten more to go...

More please. Herbal, earthy, round and gorgeous. Sage, garringue, basil and acidity that keeps the tongue engaged through the finish.
