2014 Burgundy 10years on, tasted blind: Expressive nose with cherry, cranberry, some dark fruit and menthol. Generous palate with a good fruit core, seductive, dense with a long finish. More modern but with a classic touch. Great showing. Group Rank: 6/11

2017 White and 2014 Red Burgundy (The Morris, San Francisco): Light ruby. Quite stemmy aromas with some red berry fruit. Medium weight. Excellent, naturally sweet red fruit attack, cranberry acidity, great soil base through the mid-palate and finish. Outstanding balance and length. This is very Lambrays in its elegance and briary underpinning. It reminded me of the 2001 in its weight, balance, and cooler structure. I much preferred it to the Clos du Tart today.

Superb bottle surprisingly good given vintage. Dark Ruby red. Opened bottle and let breathe for an hour and drank over 2 hours. Perfumed strawberries, raspberries and candied cherries on the nose, no stems. On the palate rich and expansive, delectable and pleasurable pure delight and finishes nicely. Medium bodied this wine is ready for business and is gorgeous.

Exquisite red fruit character - lots of cranberry and red cherry. Intense but elegant. Well balanced with lively acidity. Constantly evolving, this wine showed well at all stages but was best after 2 hours of air.
This is really fantastic now but I have no doubt this will cruise in the cellar for many years.

The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Faded red. Lighter weight than the 2016 but even sweeter fruit. Elegant, great acidity, citrus, excellent soil, and moderate fine tannins. Truly excellent and probably the most successful 2014 I tasted today.

Reticent on the nose and takes time to open up which it does so ever begrudgingly. Tannins still need better integration and feel this needs more time before opening my next magnum. Will give it a 2-3 years but this is decent value for an excellent Grand Cru

At monthly wine dinner, paired with Clos de Tart. Translucent to eye and palate. Light to medium body, delightful to drink with friends. Much, much lighter than it's neighbour Tart.

Much more evolved and approachable than the 2015. Dark ruby red with some hints of bricking. Nose of perfumed black fruits, spicy stems, cured meat if I may say, lots of subtle crushed stones. On the palate fat but refined, dark red and black fruits mid palate, deliciously balanced and structured, spicy long finish, tannins very fine and a long gratifying finish. Wow.

Surprisingly approachable despite its youth. Deep dark ruby color, dense structure to the wine. Nose of whole bunches, spice, black cherries and berries, stone, iron, and some perfume. Fat attack on the palate, solid structure and powerful dark red fruits mid palate, superb balance, and a long spicy finish with tannins present. Medium to full-bodied and delicious. 3 bottles left.

Showing really well! Still a great value in Grand Cru Burgundy. 2014 is quite accessible now showing lovely whole cluster spice, violets, stony minerals and dark fruit with fine concentration and good persistence. Very good.

Damp moss, suede leather, floral with a tiny bit of pepper on the nose. Intense fruit on the palate, like cherry pits, turns to white mushroom umami, very Morey in character and a cold stoniness on the finish that is of very good length. This could obviously use more time, but came across very giving and open.

This was relatively shut down on the night and is all potential with good concentration. Coiled and ready to break out some time in the future. Definitely a classic in the making but needs time at which point this score will certainly rise.

First taste of Lambrays; the nose shows immediately that this is an excellent wine; explosive notes of ripe berry fruits, spice, and violets; the palate is deep and powerful with very good concentration that easily absorbs the structure underlying; finishes long; needs 10-15 years, but is clearly excellent.

Clos de Lambrays Vertical 1989-2015; 1/1/2017-9/22/2019: During a Clos des Lambrays tasting. From Magnum, decanted. Much better than a recent sample. Expressive nose of red fruit and spices, young tannins providing structure. More classic than some of the warmer vintages I have tried from this producer. This could be interesting once mature. 94-95

The 2014 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is matured in 50% new oak and is 100% whole bunch fruit. Coravin- The nose shows well despite it's youth. Aromas of chalk, mineral, sandalwood, dark cherry, plum butter, and wild berry with spice, delicate florals and herbs. On the palate, structured, balanced and young. Flavors hit the palate with a mix of red and black fruit, salty minerals, spice, flowers, tea, sandalwood and a hint of herbs. Long through the finish where the tannins gain in intensity.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Wonderful cross-section of red and black berries and cherries with elegant structure in the background already. Very good for its level, with 92-93 point potential, 2020 forward. I think this will be a very good young vintage for the wine, much like I thought when tasted at Lambrays last year.

La Paulée Grand Tasting of 2014 Vintage Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Light, limpid color. More overtly stemmy than the 1er Cru. Thinner feel, higher acidity, and less fruit than that wine. One can only hope that it fleshes out over time, but it is not showing much right now, like a lesser, poorly balanced 2008. I have a hard time believing there is enough fruit for the long haul.

Tasted during a WA matter of taste walkabout, so only a brief impression. General remark on this producer: This Burgundy continues to taste a bit like a Merlot/Pomerol or a Californian Pinot. There is density, there are forest aromas, lots of fruit but little Pinosity. I don't understand why they make the wine in this way. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't taste bad but it is not exciting either. They should dial down on oak, extraction and pushed ripeness to make a true Burgundian wine. TN for the 2014: Better than the 2014, it seems like that the cool/light 2014 vintage prevented this wine to be too modern. I prefer this to the 2013 as it is lighter, longer and more elegant. One of the better CdL I have tasted.

And still the price keeps going up! As part of LVMH's luxury portfolio at a cost reported to be in the region of 100m Euros I suppose that's not surprising, but somewhat disappointing when prices tend to be a little more favourable due to the weakness of the Euro. That aside, the 2014 is a cracking good wine. 100% whole bunch fermentation has produced intense red fruit flavours, complex mineral notes combined with a beautiful balance. The trademark sweet core is there too. An utterly gorgeous wine. Estimated maturity: 2022+

Very complex on the nose with notes of dark fruit, earth, spices, smoke, flowers and a stemmy character as well. On the palate really powerful and intense showing great depth and intensity - the tannins are firm but ripe, there is generous fruit and good acidity. The length is impressive. Excellent and certainly one of the best red wines at this 2014 Burgundy en primeur tasting. 93-94+
