After about a year and a half since last drinking this wine, I feel that it has improved. Nicely integrated after being opened and breathing for a little over an hour. Very enjoyable.

Drank this after polishing off a Brunello and this did a nice job of posing as a baby brunello - not as dense and long and but same general flavor and aromatic profile. Cherries, violet, smoke.

Monday night grab, only some quick notes. Bright, sweet cherries accented by new oak vanilla followed by earthy black tea, tobacco, and a Worcestershire-acetic component offering a classic BdM/RdM edge. Tannins soft and leathery and all components playing well. Top end RdM that I think still drinks better than many other Tuscan offerings in the same value $25 price range ($24.99 Wine Merchant Cary). Overall Evaluation: A- (90).

Medium red. Lovely nose of cherries and violets, accented by new oak. Soft, undeniable sangiovese flavors with a nice uptick in acidity in the end. Modest tannins. A true "baby Brunello" in flavor, tho more modest in both intensity and price than other Rossos di Montalcino. Vastly superior to the 2013. An excellent restaurant wine for pouring by the glass.

This vintage / btl felt slightly bigger & richer than usual but still energetic and varietally correct. PnP Semi translucent red color. Aromas of tobacco, berries and a little hint of leather. Cherry, tobacco, mineral and spice on a somewhat fatter palate. Still nowhere in the vicinity of a modern style and a very true and real expression of Sangiovese. 14% Alc. I might have a preference for the 2015 which is also in my market currently. Always a terrific value for $17-$20 locally.

Has become one of my go-to rosso wines over the years, vintage nonsense be damned. Il Poggione showed in '11, '12, and again here in '14, that notwithstanding the vintage challenges, some of which were very brutal (though this year looks like it could be worse than all of them - no rain), they're able to capture fullness of flavor with a good dose of freshness, keeping this balanced and enjoyable. Drink now, thru 2020. Easily recommended
Relative to recent vintages, I found this to be somewhat more forward, sweeter, and darker (while still being within the bounds of traditionally-made Rosso). Got the job done with food, but definitely a notch below 2013 and 2012.

A perfectly functional wine—nothing horrible about it, but, also, nothing memorable. Fairly light-bodied. Very light red fruit on the tip of the tongue. Quite acidic, which I’m OK with, but might put off other tasters.

From memory: Opens up after an hour or so revealing notes of dark cherries, cherry pits, liquorish, almonds and spicy oak. Medium bodied with sweet fruit on the initial attack, respectable depth and firm structure. Will improve over the next year or two. Yet another good vintage from this excellent estate (88-90 points).

This is a good wine, nothing wrong with it, its just very sweet to my palate. There are nice savoury elements underneath that sweetness but it is ultimately not what I look for in Rosso or Brunello di Montalcino. For the modern palate in my opinion, say for example if your Coca-Cola. I'm sorry to be blunt, but its sad for me to see Montalcino wines go in this direction. Strictly commercial and Frank Zappa would say. I know that Il Poggione's Brunello's have scored very high points in the last few years and I suspect there is a reason for this. I'll be very conservative in saying that while I can accept and understand where wine is going, it would not be my choice.

Robe rubis assez intense, le vin présente des arômes soutenus de fruits rouges. En bouche, le vin est plutôt corsé avec des tanins souples et une certaine acidité; longue finale.

Very tasty as usual - Il poggione simply keep a High level on all wines in all vintages. The nose has the traditional (sweet) cherries but also notes of strawberries and vanilla. On the palate cherry, vanilla and a touch of leather. Medium, well integrated tannins, medium body and fine acidity. Medium+ aftertaste.

Second Sunday Group: Montalcino (Leon's): Double blind. At first a bit dull and simple with red fruit and hints of spice. Currant and spiced cherry flavors. Adds a bit of weight as it sits and expands across the palate. Cherry, florals, holiday/baking spice and currant aromas and flavors appear. Red fruit lingers through the finish. Good fruit and structure with balanced acidity. 90-91 pts.

Smell: Dark cherries, tobacco, violets, and licorice: Palate: Some oak notes which are quickly vanquished by bright cherries, strawberries, before being displaced by tobacco notes and leaves/twigs. Quite energetic with plenty of acid and tannin. A bit hot.

Clear, medium-ruby color. Gorgeous nose- sandalwood, sous bois, dried flowers, black cherry- medium intensity, secondary/primary. Pure, open, and focused flavors consistent with the nose, but more fruit-driven. Medium weight, airy elegance, with juicy medium-plus acid and fine supple tannins. Bright flavor intensity through the finish. Beautifully done.

Benvenuto Brunello - Toronto 2016: This was the best Rosso of this tasting in my mind. Pours incredibly light, almost Pinot Noir like. The nose confirms this with lots of bright young red fruit via red cherries and cranberries. Also; dried orange peel, mixed herbs, dry hay, and dry soil. The palate has great acid and light tannin. Really Lovely, especially for Pinot Noir fans. The long red fruited finish is of cherry pit and cranberry with a little herbal accent. Excellent!

The nose was pretty with sweet red fruits, floral tones and herbs. On the palate, I found feminine textures with an engaging bump of acidity giving way to focused and deep red fruits. It finished on inner floral tones and cherry skins. Yum!

Bright red cherries, healthy acidity and medium drying tannins.
Softened a little bit on the second day.
Really nice, and a great pizza wine.

Nose is pronounced, dark cherry and a not unpleasant hint of a mineral hot springs on the back end.
Taste is ripe cherries and cream soda, with a little bit of mineral. Medium to high acidity, mild tannin, medium finish.
A very good wine overall, and excellent at this price point.

Lighter than what I think of many Rosso di Montalcino. Rasberry, blackberries, and a hint of raisins. Pleasant.

A rather powerful and ripe nose with cherry, blackberry, sea spray, hazelnut, graphite, and grilled meat.
The palate is all about tannin and acid, with the fruit pushed firmly into the background. Needs time to integrate.
Opinion: decent quaffing Tuscan but needs some time to open up.

Cork, 14% alc. Deep, dark red. Good colour for a cheaper wine.
Crushed rocks, vanilla, purple fruit, and smoked meats on the nose.
Sour cherry flavour with raspberry overtones. Strict tannin profile. Good line.
Opinion: Very nice as a food wine that isn’t too expensive. Buy again as a daily drinker, but can handle cellaring too.
